Description from owner

Description

This well appointed, south facing cottage is situated in an attractive mews quadrangle and overlooks a peaceful communal garden which provides a tranquil oasis in the heart of the Georgian New Town. Within a few minutes walk of the hustle and bustle of Princes Street and the rest of the historic city, it is ideally placed to offer visitors the opportunity to relax in comfort when not visiting the city's many tourist and cultural attractions. The cottage sleeps 4 with an additional cot available. The living/dining area and kitchen are up upstairs. Wi-fi and secure parking are included.

Originally built in the 1830s, these cottages housed horses and carriages on the lower floor with living quarters for the coachmen upstairs. The charm and character remain, but fortunately the accommodation you will enjoy is considerably more luxurious.

The Scotland region

Edinburgh is situated on the East Coast of Scotland and is the capital city. To the west is West Lothian where you can visit stunning castles, the prehistoric burial site at Cairnpapple Hill and Linlithgow Palace, where Mary Queen of Scots was born. Get active and enjoy the beautiful rolling countryside with long scenic walks or spend a day in one of the extensive country parks such as Beecraigs near Linlithgow. Just south of Edinburgh, Midlothian is best known as the home of beautiful Rosslyn Chapel, featured in the film 'The Da Vinci Code'. It also boasts river valleys, woods and hills making it ideal for some more adventurous activities. East Lothian is ideal for touring with its beautiful towns, wonderful beaches and fantastic attractions to explore. There are also many outdoor activities to enjoy such as golf, walking, cycling (including fatbiking along the coastline) and even kite surfing.

New Town

With over 4,500 listed buildings, Edinburgh is world-renowned for its rich architectural heritage. The two main areas of historical interest are the Old Town and the New Town. The Old Town features the tourist hub of the Royal Mile, running from Edinburgh Castle on the west to The Palace of Holyrood House, the Queen's Edinburgh residence in the east. In the 18th century New Town you will find the grand Georgian Terraces, more suited to the figures of the Scottish Enlightenment who wished to escape the over-crowded Old Town. Together, the Old and New Towns were listed as a World Heritage Site in 1995.

There are plenty of opportunities for relaxing and retail therapy in Edinburgh. Princes Street with its many high street shops as well as George Street with its luxury fashion boutiques, jewellers and trendy bars and restaurants will cater for most needs. Slightly further afield is Leith, a veritable hub for lively eating and drinking as well as being home to The Royal Yacht Britannia. The various Edinburgh International Festivals takes place in July/August. Edinburgh is also famous for its New Years Eve Hogmanay Street Party.

“Very Pleasant Accommodation.”

Reviewed 28 Nov 2013

We really enjoyed our stay at Carlton Terrace Mews. The cottage was quiet and clean and conveniently near the very centre of Edinburgh. The beds and bed linen were exceptionally comfortable! We would certainly recommend this holiday rental to friends and family.

“A perfect place for a city stay”

Reviewed 8 Oct 2013

Very convenient apartment : well equipped, nicely furnished and decorated. Good location with shopping facilities around. Just one thing to improve : recheck address for key pickup which apparently can be misinterpreted by taxi driver. We found it in the end, but did quite some driving ! (Taxi driver didn't charge us any extra)

Thank you very much for your helpful comments. We take all feedback very seriously and have already installed a keypad entry system for the cottage to avoid any further key issues.

“Very comfortable mews house in fabulous central location”

Reviewed 3 Feb 2013

This was a great find. Very central - just off Carlton Hill - and a very good base from seeing Edinburgh. The accommodation is perfect for a family - having a sitting-room and open-plan dining room/kitchen is a welcome change to hotel rooms. Nicely furnished and very quiet.
