Location description from owner

The Cape Cod region

You’re likely to return from New England with an album of images: white-clapboard churches on well-manicured greens; red-brick buildings on leafy college campuses; granite mountains majestically ablaze with fall colors; paint-peeling fishing boats bobbing at their mores. New England is all that, and more.

Besides rural charm, New England is also about urban grit. Industrial and port cities around the region were built on the backs of factory workers, mill girls and sailors. Today towns like Salem, Mystic, Lowell, Providence and Portland are remaking themselves as trend-setters and tourist destinations. No matter what new identity these cities take on, however, they retain their edgy undersides, fuelling innovative art and nonstop nightlife. Which brings us to our next point: New England is at the cutting edge of culture.

With the recent opening of the Institute of Contemporary Arts in Boston, the region is now home to two exciting, experimental contemporary art museums. Indie bands rock out in Boston, Portland, Providence and Burlington.

The world-renowned Boston Symphony Orchestra takes its show on the road in summer, delighting audiences in the Berkshires. Around the region concert series, film festivals and theater productions make for a cultural calendar that is jam-packed and jaw-dropping.

New England is big on outdoor adventure: you’ll find a sport for every season. Whether you’re hurdling over carriage roads on a mountain bike or swooping down a snowy slope on a snowboard, the rounded peaks of the region’s mountain ranges give everyone a rush.

While you’re paddling the luxuriously languid inland lakes or rafting down a rippling river, her waterways awaken your senses. Whether you’re bird-watching or building sand castles, her windswept beaches are beguiling.

New England is history. It’s the Pilgrims who came ashore at Plymouth Rock and the minutemen who fought for American independence. But it’s also contemporary. It’s the farmers and fishermen struggling for survival; students and immigrants, always adapting. New England oozes individuality and diversity; it’s colourful and controversial, free-thinking and forward-looking

New Seabury

Think saltwater taffy, seaside cottages, seagulls, sandcastles and sailboats at sunset. When New Englanders want a day at the beach they head to Cape Cod - 'the Cape.'

This sandy peninsula is fringed with 400 miles of sparkling shoreline, including Cape Cod National Seashore, a national park boasting six beaches, three bicycle trails and 11 walking trails. Follow the footsteps there of the 18th century writer Henry David Thoreau and visit Marconi Station, the first transatlantic wireless station on mainland U.S.

The Cape offers more than just beaches, however. Cape Cod boasts quaint fishing villages, excellent biking and hiking trails, and some of the freshest seafood imaginable. But don't just think seafood -the Cape has many new and innovative restaurant and bistro experiences to offer, as well as traditional New England restaurants, in all price ranges.

There are several must-visit towns on the Cape. Provincetown began as a summer retreat for writers and artists and now attracts a growing and colourful summer community. There are many art galleries and the town is picturesquely set on the water at the very tip of the Cape.

Provincetown has some wonderful restaurants. Also, climb the Pilgrim's Monument for a fabulous view of the entire elbow of Cape Cod spread out below you.

Historic Sandwich, just minutes from Mashpee, is the oldest town on the Cape and has a quaint and charming centre. Sandwich also has the Heritage Museum and Gardens, which offers activities for all ages, including a show of classic and antique cars and a carousel for the kids. It also has a great beach!

Hyannis has the Kennedy Museum, the Cape Cod Melody Tent for concerts and good shopping (Hyannis Mall), Falmouth has a lovely town centre of small shops and restaurants and a beautiful harbor. Chatham has the fabulous Chatham Bars Inn. Across the street from the Inn is the fishing port where you can watch the fishermen come in with their catches. Watch the seals swimming around waiting for scraps and buy the freshest seafood ever at the fish market there.

For the kids, there are some huge miniature golf courses - Pirate's Cove Adventure Golf in South Yarmouth comes immediately to mind. For a rainy day, there is the Children's Museum right around the corner and lots of children's theatre activities. The Cape specialises in kids, there are myriads of activities for them in the summer holiday..

The golfers have an enormous choice of golf courses on Cape Cod, some with spectacular views of the ocean. Fishing charters, theme boat trips, boat and jet-ski rentals are all fun activities. You can also visit one of the wellness centres and treat yourself to a massage.

Make sure to visit the Islands - Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket - to complete your Cape Cod experience.
As the song says, 'You're gonna fall in love with Ole Cape Cod.

“Perfect vacation”

Reviewed 19 Aug 2013

We enjoyed our vacation in this holiday home very much. We found everything we needed and it was perfect. Our little son (1,5 years old) loved the garden and the nice beaches in the surrounding area. The supermarket and the restaurants at Mashpee Common were very convinient for us. To put it in a nutshell, it was a perfect vacation. Thank you that we could stay in your beautiful house and we would love to come back one day.

“Our stay in Bright Coves…”

Reviewed 21 Nov 2012

Although the property was bigger than we needed for just the 2 of us, it was very appealing and so we arranged to stay for 7 nights. Booking was quick and easy and we were provided with comprehensive details of shopping, eateries and recommendations of things to do and see. The house was a 5 minute drive along a leafy lane and just 10 minutes from Mashpee Commons. The open plan design was spacious and included a fully equipped kitchen with a breakfast bar, a lounge with 2 large sofas, a writing desk with Wi-Fi access and a conservatory that overlooked the garden. During our stay we visited Mystic, Stonington CT, Newport RI, Plymouth, Boston and Falmouth. Bright Coves is a great place to stay and the property is home from home.
