Description

New Abbey is a historic village, located within a conservation area, within a national and regional scenic area. The Village won, best small village in Scotland 2012. It is truly a fantastic place to stay.The cottage it's self is located in the heart of the village in the picturesque cobbled square. The cottage is a grade c listed building and was totally restored in 2013/14. The house has been finished to a high standard, with a new kitchen, wet room, central heating, open fire and tasteful decoration throughout. The cottage has a main hall that leads to a double bedroom, single bedroom, wet room, kitchen/dinner and living room combined. The double room has a king sized zip and link bed that can be split into two single beds if required. Ideal for family's and parties of 3 single people who may wish their own bed.Parking is provided within the square in front of the cottage.Externally there is a brick built storage shed with a robust secure door, Bike maintenance stand and hose down facilities within it. The washing machine, tumble dryer and associated drying area is also provided within the outbuildings. The garden to the property is not behind the cottage, it lies down a short path to the side of the property, it is lovely and private and has the historic sweetheart abbey wall running along the eastern boundary of the garden, which it is southerly facing. The patio and associated furniture are located in the bottom corner of the garden to take full advantage of the shelter provided by the walls and capture the sun at the same time.There is a quiet country pub and a shop within the square, together with an award winning cafe just 300metres from the cottage, perfect for those who don't want to cook. The village shop is well stocked and you are able to get everything you need, including a nice bottle of wine.There are numerous walks that start from the square, ranging from gentle walks around woodlands and along the estuary, to the more demanding walks up to waterloo monument and Criffel, a hump-backed hill that at 1871 feet above sea level, it is the highest for miles around. Mabie forest walks and mountain bike tracks (one of the seven stanes) are within cycling distance of the cottage.New abbey really is a beautiful village, the famous corn-mill within the village is the main view from the living room of the cottage. On the edge of the village is the intriguing Sweetheart Abbey, the ruined Sweetheart Abbey, founded by Lady Devorgilla in 1273 to commemorate the death of her husband John Balliol. On her death she was laid next to her husband's embalmed heart and the monks named the abbey in memory of her. Also within the village is a doctors surgery, small play park, football pitch, antique shop, Shambellie walled garden and associated walks as displayed in our photo gallery.The village is on a main bus route, ideal for catching a bus to go for a night out in Dumfries. Little Italy, Casa Mia, Hullabaloo, and Cavens are excellent places to eat.There is also an award winning links golf course and beach located at Southerness, which is approximately 7 miles from the cottage. The coast is approximately 3 miles from the cottage and is peppered with beautiful beaches, some are stoney others have miles of golden sand. Best Sandy Beach is called Sandyhills approx 9 miles from the cottage.This cottage is ideally situated for couples, families, groups of mountain bikers, walkers, bird watchers, golfers and beach lovers.Once you arrive in New Abbey, you really would not need to get back into your car, until you are ready to go home again.We are a family run business and have very high standards, please read our reviews for our established holiday property, listed as Burnbrae Mill. You will see that we provide the best service possible and look after our guest, we want everyone's holiday to be perfect.I have lived in Dumfries and Galloway all my life and i have put together a information pack full of local tips. I have added post codes to the information pack to help you find your way around, if you have a sat nav, we have also put some maps and walking guides in the house to make life easier.Linen, towels, oil central heating, electric, washing up clothes, dish washer tablets, fairy and soap is provided at no additional cost.Coal for the fire can be purchased from the shop.If requested a cot and high chair can be provided free of charge, bedding for the cot must be provided by the guests. No Smoking is permitted within the cottage.STRICTLY NO PETS.

“Ideal Cottage”

Stayed in this lovely cottage for four nights which has everything you would need including a dishwasher. The garden at the back is very private with lots of apple trees.Just wish the weather had been a little better so we could of made more use of it. Played golf twice in Dumfries, this was challenging due to the wind but enjoyable.

Well what can I say. This cottage is exceptional. There is absolutely everything you could possibly need in this beautiful, well equipped cottage. The garden is a very quite, secluded suntrap. We were very lucky to have exceptionally hot weather and made the most of this beautiful garden. People are very friendly especially in the little shop opposite the cottage. I must say the beautiful fresh cream strawberry sponge was delicious and a lovely welcoming touch. My husband was very excited to visit the Kite Feeding Station and we were not disappointed, it was amazing. There is a pub almost next door, however we didn't eat there so cannot comment on the food. Although it is so close to the property it was very quiet with noise closing time. Would definitely come back again. Allan was excellent at responding to any queries we had.

We stayed for five nights and found the cottage very cosy with a wonderful bed very comfortable with nice quality bedding which was lovely. Also a fantastic cake was waiting for us on arriva, and l after an eight hour drive it was so welcome and was delicious!

The cottage was excellent . It had everything you need and it was spotlessly clean. We enjoyed our stay very much it was home from home.the welcome fresh home made cake was a nice treat. There are so many places to see and visit and although the weather was not that great we still managed to fit in lot of activities and the kids were kept busy throughout our stay. The visitor information book provided by the host is a good reference for things to do around the surrounding areas. The owner was very helpful and when we had a little problem on the following day of our arrival he was there within a half an hour of contacting him to sort it out.

Had a great week in Abbey green cottage on my own with 2 kids. It had everything we needed - shed for our bikes, washing facilities and dryer, xbox for the kids, victoria sponge, milk, eggs, coal and the added bonus of a tv in each bedroom. The locals were very friendly. We did a lot of cycling nearby, visited the chocolate factory (where my daughter made chocolate) and did lazer tag in Galloway activity centre. A great cosy cottage in a lovely village.

A fabulous little home away from home. This cottage was clean and came equipped with all that you need. Such a great feeling as soon as we walked in the door to find such a prize. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend. There is also alot to see and do from this location.

How do damage deposits work?
