Description

Our house is a recent barn conversion with lots of space and a lovely position beside the little river Seille. It is on the edge of a friendly village in an Eco valley with grazing and wooded slopes above and with a trout stream running round edge of garden. There is a shady outside terrace and lots of relaxing sunny spaces beside the little river. This is a comfortable family house. The large kitchen /dining room is very well equipped and if you like eating out there are some lovely restaurants within a few kilometres. If you like walking or bicycling there are tracks everywhere or if you want to swim there is a good choice of beautiful, clean, well managed lakes with a family friendly beaches, some with water sports, nearby. The river Ain has some easily accessible pools, picnic areas and beaches accessible by canoe or by car. There is also a golf course within 30 minutes. The spectacular villages of Baume les Messieurs and Chateau Chalon are close by.

This is an area to be outside walking, bicycling, swimming or canoeing, bird watching, exploring, picnics by a river, sitting in a café or a restaurant, visiting a pottery or strolling through a medieval village(Chateau Chalon) or an Abbey (Baume les messieurs) for example or wine tasting.

Location description from owner

The Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region

Our house is a barn conversion in part of an old farmstead beside the little river Seille. Franche Comte is a region full of lakes, rivers, mountains and forests. The proximity to Germany, Switzerland and Italy gives it a unique cultural mix. The architecture and history of the region are both full of interest. The Jura is little known in the UK and yet has some of the most interesting towns and beautiful villages in France. The region is a sanctuary for those who love the outdoors and offers clean rivers and lakes for swimming and endless forest tracks for walking and cycling. If you like walking or bicycling, swimming, wild flowers or other wild life, or just sitting in a cafe or restaurant, you will love this unusual area almost unknown by many British people. Vineyards abound, good food and wine is widely available either to cook and eat at home or in any number of good restaurants and cafes. Wander through medieval villages like Chateau Chalon or abbeys like Baume les messieurs or along the bank of a clear stream or river. The little town of Voiteur is 5 Kgms away and has a really good supermarket, boulangerie, pharmacy and bank.

Nevy-sur-Seille

The area around our house is an eco valley full of meadows, woods and steams so wild flowers and birds abound. The hills behind the house are full of beautiful paths which are clearly marked and join the local communities. The house is on the edge of a friendly village, beside a trout stream and is in a peaceful, quiet corner. There are lots of good restaurants round and about from ones with several Michelin stars like M.Jeunnet at Arbois to our favourite Grande Jardin in the adjoining village. The local cheeses and wines are delicious and some are famous the world over. Our favourite cheeses are Comte and Morbier and the Vin Jaune and Vin de Paille from nearby Chateau Chalon are famous the world over. The villages of Baume les Messieurs and Chateau Chalon are both among the most beautiful villages of France and have a long and distinguished history.
