The England region

Perhaps England's most beautiful county, Dorset is a wonderful place to holiday.

It has gloriously peaceful countryside and spectacular scenery. Its stunning coastline makes up the bulk of the famous Jurassic Coast, which has been designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

At the western end near the border with Devon is the pretty resort of Lyme Regis with its sandy beach and famous Cobb harbour. Here there are many attractions for families such as boat trips and fossil hunting. Further east is the classic seaside resort of Weymouth - ideal for sandcastles, donkey rides and ice cream.

Also on the coast is the spectacular Chesil beach and the ancient Swannery at Abbotsbury.

Away from the coast there are unspoilt villages, welcoming pubs and historic houses and gardens.

“A delightful family home in a peaceful, rural setting.”

Reviewed 17 Nov 2012

Our family of three generations - 7 of us ranging in age from 68 down to just 2 months old were comfortably accommodated in this interesting and immaculate home for the autumn half- term holiday. Rather soggy weather conditions prevented us from exploring the locality on foot but trips to Lyme Regis and Charmouth for fossil hunting and Bridport & lovely Beaminster for shopping and sampling the local cakes & ales kept us happily employed. The welcoming gift of wine and chocolates as well as a good supply of games & puzzles, and also Internet access, proved invaluable in keeping everyone amused.

“Everything you could need in this beautiful barn”

Reviewed 17 May 2012

The place is in a lovely quiet village that has amenities nearby. There is something for everyone, restaurants, shops and beaches. The house had everything for all ages. A stair gate and travel cot for the two year old and a great kitchen to cook if wanted. The bedrooms are suprisingly spacious with room for 4 adults and 2 children. We found maps for walks, details for local estates. Couldn't fault the place at all, the owners have thought of everything and have made it a great holiday home. There's plenty of games/DVD's when the weather's not too good, which was 50% of our holiday - loved it

“The best equipped property we've ever stayed in!”

Reviewed 10 Nov 2011

We spent the October half-term staying at Limun Barn and we couldn't have asked for a better location or accommodation. The owners had thought of everything you can need for a short break - the kitchen was extremely well equipped and when we had a wet afternoon we had a relaxing afternoon watching the DVDs and the playing with the games provided. Highly recommend the Hare and Hounds - home cooked food and cosy. We also recommend doing a donkey walk with Chris - you will find his details on the West Dorset tourist information website. Plus we did the ghost walk in Bridport - it inspired our daughter to write a ghost story for her English homework! We have a great time - thank you Carol and family.

“Perfect facilities in an outstanding location”

Reviewed 4 Sep 2011

We were a three generation family with very small children and we all loved the barn, which had everything we needed. The family pictures and nick-nacks made it feel very homely. The garden and stream and the 'secret doors' were a great favourite with the children. The peaceful little hamlet and beautiful walks were just what we were looking for and there were plenty of places to visit locally, a great introduction to English holidays for my Canadian grandchildren. We could shop or eat out locally and the weather was perfect!

“Beautifully appointed cottage in an idyllic location”

Reviewed 4 Sep 2011

We stayed here with our three children (8,8,12). The location is ideal for touring Dorset and south east Devon but we felt the location, close to the market town of Beaminster, was among the most picturesque of any in the county and an idea location just to spend time discovering the landscape. At the time of our visit was the Buckham Fair held nearby. This very special event, hosted by Martin Clunes in Aid of the air Ambulance is a very traditional affair with a focus on K9 and Equestrian interests. View from the big wheel was amazing! See Photo. The owners of Linum barn went out of their way to ensure everything was in order for us and communication was very good, despite them being remote from the cottage. The cottage, we found to be very comfortable with a large dining table and well equipped kitchen. We would definatly return again.
