The Costa del Sol region

Nerja is situated approximately 50 kilometres east of Malaga off the N340 highway. It was a small fishing village but now, even though it has grown, Nerja's old part of town remains largely unchanged and still retains many of its old features, its narrow winding streets, some one way and some are pedestrians only, which house many tapas bars, restaurants and shops.

The town is situated below the Sierra Almijara mountain range and has fortunately managed to avoid the concrete high-rises, which have been the inevitable result of the tourist boom in some of Spain's other coastal resorts.

The town has many small mini-marts along with 5 main supermarkets. There are numerous small shops but none of the larger named shops in Nerja, which can be found elsewhere in Spain. The city centre is so small, you will soon know all of the shops. Cars line many streets and there are two main car parks to take the overflow. On the Plaza Europa there is a fine little archeological museum.

The famous Nerja caves, discovered in 1959, are approximately 3 kilometres down the coast. These caves are now believed to be just one entrance to a linked series of potholes stretching many miles into the mountains between Nerja and Granada, and which may yet prove to be one of the most extensive unexplored systems in Europe. One of the caverns has been transformed into a concert hall, which offers many shows. Visitors to the caves will be able to view the remains of one of the ancient inhabitants of Nerja.

Nerja

In the heart of Nerja is the Balcón de Europa, the "Balcony of Europe", which can be viewed from the terrace of the apartment. It has magnificent panoramic sea views, as well as small coves and beaches below the cliff and further east along the coast, Burriana Beach.

Closest to the apartment is Salon Beach, a 5-10 minute walk away. It is situated below the complex and can be seen from the gardens and communal area. The main beach in the area is Burriana, where you will find many water sports, beach activities and a promenade of bars, cafes and restaurants.

In Nerja there are plenty of traditional tapas bars, restaurants and cafes with a wide variety of delicious food to choose from. A good way to get your bearings as well as being a bit of fun is to take the Nerja Tourist Train, or you can hire a horse-drawn carriage to explore the town.

The picturesque 17th century Church of El Salvador – 'Iglesia El Salvador' – is situated on the edge of the Balcón de Europa and close to what used to be the old Guards Tower. You will find this an ideal setting to relax in one of the many café bars, and watch the world go by.

“Views to die for.”

Fantastic apartment, spent 2 weeks there, could not fault a thing, Was wonderful to wake up every morning to that view Spent a lot of time on the terrace. So much choice of eating out in the evening. Highly recommend.
