The Andalucia region
The Costa del Sol stretches for 150km along the Mediterranean Sea from Gibraltar in the west to Nerja in the east. The region has over 300 days of sunshine on average over the course of a year.
Malaga, which is 50km west of Nerja, contains museums, a cathedral and art galleries (including the Picasso museum), large retail stores and restaurants. Granada, home of the world famous Alhambra Palace, is 90km northeast of Nerja.
Granada is at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. There are a number of beautiful villages in close proximity to Nerja, all with their own unique characteristics, including Frigiliana and Competa. In terms of coastal villages, La Herradura is to the east and Torre del Mar is to the west. These villages have local markets on different days of the week.
Nerja, without a doubt one of the most beautiful spots on the Costa del Sol, is a small coastal town lying some 50 km east of Malaga. Nerja is conscious of the sad mistakes which have been made in the past in coastal resorts such as Benidorm and Torremolinos. The town has retained the character of past years. However, time has not stood still and much of the new development which inflates Nerja's summer population lies in the Andalusian style villages and apartments in the sunny olive groves behind the town.
With the protection of the Almijara mountain range (3500m) the area enjoys an excellent climate on a day to day basis and quite often has some of the highest temperatures in the Mediterranean, especially in the winter months. Statistically, the sun is said to shine for 300 days a year. This warmth is not a seasonal phenomenon. Whilst Nerja has its winter and spring, the seasons are conducted in temperatures similar to the British summer and it is, therefore, easy to understand why the shops are full of locally grown fruit and vegetables all year round.
There are several beaches, some long and open and others small and secluded, with picturesque little coves to be discovered. The Burriana, the largest and best equipped, offers sporting facilities including paragliding and waterskiing etc. during the summer. There is also a good choice of beach restaurants, serving excellent local dishes, especially seafood and paella.
In 1958, five small boys were playing on the slopes just outside of Nerja, when by sheer fluke they unearthed what has become known as the Nerja caves (previously undiscovered for 3000 years). To this day, archaeologists excavate further into the unexplored recesses. Every year, various music and dance festivals are held in the caves, and it is said that something like 1000 people, comfortably seated, assemble there. That gives you some idea of its size. It is also said to have the largest stalactite in the world.
The town of Nerja has many good quality bars, restaurants and shops, to cater for all tastes. There are a couple of night clubs on the west side of the town. With the slower and more tranquil Andalusian way of life, Nerja has a daily siesta with shops closing around 1 pm and opening in the late afternoon, when the sun has lessened in intensity.
The Balcon de Europa (the Balcony of Europe) is lined with palm trees on both sides and overlooks the Mediterranean Sea, where you can enjoy fascinating panoramas. It was named by King Alfonso XII when visiting the town in 1885.

"The perfect place to stay in Nerja..."
Whether this is your first visit to Nerja or you have been before, this is the perfect place to stay. This was our second visit to Nerja, on this occasion with our young son and the Villa provides great accomodation. The Villa is immaculately presented and includes everything you need for your stay, whether it be with a young or extended family or just as a couple. We particularly enjoyed relaxing on the balcony over a barbeque with views of the pool and gardens after a quiet day by the pool or after a hard day at the beach. The layout of the Villa really helped us at it was cool during the evening, following days of uninterupted sunshine, so no issues in terms of children being able to rest. We had high expectations and it delivered. The complex is so peaceful both during the day by the pool and during the evening and we will definitely return to Casablanca 6. Defininely one to recommend...

"Frequent stayer at this supurb apartment"
Have been staying here for the last 10 years and absolutely love this place. First stayed with young children and husband. Several trip later with family and friends too. Would definitely recommend this apartment as its immaculate and offers everything you would need for your stay. The pool area is lovely too. Plenty of places to eat and plenty to do.
