Description from owner

Description

There are two cottages next to each other, which only let together. The larger cottage has one large double en suite, with bath the other bedroom has 4 single beds with shower and an extra cot. There is a balcony with unrestricted views across the Rift Valley. The lofted sitting room, with views of the bush on 3 sides, is complemented by a small fully fitted kitchen/coffee area. There is an open fire and TV (local channels) and DVD Player

The smaller cottage has one double bedroom upstairs en suite, with its own balcony, and a dining/sitting/ small conference room downstairs with its own large fully fitted kitchen. This is ideal as the dining room for both cottages.

Between the cottages is a totally private walled barbeque area/terrace, with sun umbrella for al fresco dining.

There is a separate sitting out area area/ coffee terrace under the trees and own access to the pool.

The cottages are particularly well suited to a family with children and grandparents!

Further details

The best package is to take the cottages on their own or, with another family, rent the whole place. The owner also has a beach home at Vipingo, north of Mombasa, and for those who take both the up country home and the beach, an extra discount would be available. It works extremely well to do 6 days at Navaisha, perhaps a few days safari and then 7 days relaxing on the beach. The Owner could suggest appropriate combinations on request. The owner can also suggest excellent, and relatively inexpensive, safari vehicle hire, with driver, inclusive of petrol. The driver then stays in the staff quarters.

Further details indoors

The interior facilities are complemented by the main house, see separate entry, should both cottages and house be taken together. Otherwise, between the two cottages there is ample space, and complete privacy.

Further details outdoors

The exterior facilities are, in the main, shared with the main house. See separate entry for Lahai House for full range of what is available. However, the cottages have their own exclusive outside sitting areas, ideal for barbeques and veging out and are close to the heated pool and tennis court. The managed bush walks around the 20 acres are a feature of the property, usually accompanied by most of the owners 6 dogs.

Location description from owner

The Rift Valley Province region

The Rift Valley is the eighth wonder of the world. Stretching thousands of miles from Ethiopia to Mozambique, where it passes through Kenya it is at its most spectacular. Lahai is situated on the north side of the Rift, with views across to Lake Navaisha, only 3 miles away, the extinct Volcano of Mt Longonot at 9,000 ft and the Aberdare mountains at 14,000ft on the other side of the Valley.

At 7,000 ft, and 30 miles south of the equator, Lahai probably enjoys one of the best climates in the world. It is warm ( varies between 22C-32C) by day and cool (8C-16C) by night. As it is a dry heat it is extremely pleasant, and it is cool enough to ensure you sleep well at night. Because of the altitude there are basically no bugs or mosquitoes to spoil your sundowner.

Naivasha

Green Park is pivotal to a range of day trips and amenities.
Apart from the 18 Hole championship course 5 minutes from the house, and our own pool and tennis court, the area is renown for its bird and wild life.

Lake Navaisha is 3 miles below the house, and a muram road circumnavigates the Lake, which is about a 3 hours drive. There are a number of day trips you can do from boating to see the pelicans and hippos, enjoying the giraffes and plain's game at Crater Lake over lunch on a small floating restaurant, to Elsemere House, the home of Joy Adamson or a trip around Hells Gate National Park to see the wild life. There are also several private conservation parks, which are well worth a visit.

Navaisha, 40 mins away, has the usual african curio shops and a large supermarket.
Nakuru National Park, which has everything apart from elephants, is only just over an hour away, and is an excellent day trip.

There is a private airstrip at Green Park where charters can come in from Nairobi (20 mins) or go to the Masai Mara (40 mins). At Loldia Ranch, 10 mins away, there is a daily scheduled flight in from Nairobi every day, and back via the Masai Mara.
