Location description from owner

The Tuscany region

Tuscany is a charming land, blessed by the genius of man and nature.

With its magnificent hilly landscapes spreading up from the mountains to the seaside and its historical and archaeological sites, it is one of Italys most famous regions.

There is also a secret side of Tuscany that includes plenty of medieval hamlets and castles perched on hill-tops or dug out of rocky cliffs that were once the stage for harsh conflicts between local landlords.
Each spot is a gem in its own right, not only for the countryside but also for the knowledge of the history of the land and the people living there.

It can also represent a wonderful haven if you are looking for a place to unwind.

Casciano is conveniently located. Some of the most famous sightseeing spots in Tuscany are very closeby: Siena (20 drive), Florence and Arezzo (1hr drive), San Gimignano, Pienza and Montepulciano (40 drive).
A lot of famous sites in the southern Tuscany, including the beautiful white sandy beaches of Maremma, the Natural Park of Uccellina, the Mount Amiata and the Elba Island, can be easily reached from Casciano.
We will be glad to provide the Casabellas guests with some useful information about the tourist areas they are interested in.

Murlo

The nearby medieval walled village of Murlo is very charming and includes a couple of good restaurants qirh stunning views over the hills, as well as a very nice Etruscan museum.

Casciano di Murlo is a smaller village situated near the Natural Reserve of the low-Merse.

This Reserve was founded in 1996 in order to preserve a rare and uncontaminated ecosystem. It spreads up in a wide area that joins the stream Merse’s and the stream Farma’s valleys, half way between the “Metallifere” hills and the Maremma’s woods.

The guests can also enjoy the ancient sulfureous spring waters of Petriolo, situated in the gorgeous stream Farma’s valley, are only 10 minutes away from Casciano. A SPA with all amenities has recently been built by these charming spring waters (www.termepetriolo.it ), an ideal place for relaxing.

The rich, unspoilt natural habitat includes a large number of animals like the otter or the coyput, as well as a great variety of arboreous sorts like the mountain beech which have become very rare in other areas of Italy.
ideal for hiking and walking. Tennis and horse riding in the surroundings.

“Great Holiday!”

Reviewed 24 Oct 2013

We had a really great two weeks at Casa Casciano. The accommodation was very adequate and clean with everything we needed. Marcello & his wife were very welcoming and helpful. The garden and swimming pool were a delight. Plenty of shady areas to sit and read and a big pool to enjoy. We did share the pool with the owners and on some occasions their friends but for us this wasn't a problem. The village was a two minute walk away and there were enough shops for everyday use - we can certainly recommend the bakers and butchers. The local Osteria was good value and the food excellent. The countryside around the area and hill top villages are truly beautiful as is Siena. There certainly isn't a shortage of things to do. We had fantastic weather for the whole fortnight, it was even too hot on some occasions for us!! We would certainly recommend this accommodation to our friends.

Thank you for your kind review!

“So happy we have already rebooked!!!!”

My wife and I had a wonderful week staying the at Casciano house. The location truely is ideallic, perched right on the edge of the village. 5 minute peacful walk to the shop and restraunts, yet virtually no passing traffic!!! The owners are extremely freindly and helpful, they even noticed my wife's birthday during the passport check and prompty turned up with a wonderful bottle of wine. The gardens are shared with the owners, to be fair we never saw them apart from their ongoing gardneing. When we did it was a polite hello and smile, and we always felt we had our privacy. Main village restaraunt is excellent; nice local atmosphere, good quality and great price. Sienna is a 15-20 minute drive and the local rolling hills make for great exploring. Were off again next year and cant wait!!!!

Thank you for your great review! We look forward to welcoming you again next year

“A beautiful place but disappointed that the pool was not private as promised”

Reviewed 6 Jul 2013

A lovely apartment, well equipped. Good location with access to lots of beautiful places to visit. As the owners speak little English, some info. in the house re places to shop, markets etc. would have been useful. We were promised the pool would be for our sole use, which was important to us in our choice of villa, but the owners regularly had several guests there. As we arrived very late on a Saturday night, having had no opportunity to shop on the way, we would have appreciated a small supply of provisions which are normally provided.

If you had asked in advance to provide some provisions upon your arrival, we would have been happy to do it! We normally do it upon request.

“Quaint and comfortable apartment, great location”

We loved our stay at Casa Casciano. The location was perfect: far enough away to feel like you're in the countryside, but still very close driving distance to all that Tuscany has to offer. The owners were very nice and helpful. The apartment was well appointed with everything you'd need.

“Lovely pool and beautiful views”

Reviewed 2 Sep 2012

We enjoyed a fantastic week in this clean and well equipped ground floor apartment. The pool area and garden was lovely and the owners were friendly and welcoming. It was fantastic value for money and an excellent centre to visit Siena, and San Gimignano. We also visited Florence (a bit further away) but doable. This is a hidden gem!

Thank you for reviewing the Casa Casciano! We were happy to have you as guests here, hope to see you again in a near future.
