The Cumbria region
With its breathtaking mountain scenery, beautiful lakes and picturesque villages, the Lake District is a paradise, not only for outdoor enthusiasts but for anyone who loves peace and beauty.
Discover Beatrix Potter's Lakeland or walk along the Lake shores or hire a rowing boat and relive the adventures of Swallows and Amazons.
The changing seasons bring with them different highlights – Spring is a time of new life with baby lambs, Wordsworth's daffodils, and walks through bluebell woods. Summer brings it's own magic, either lazing by a lake or enjoying the view from the high mountain peaks. Beautiful Autumn colours hopefully bring along an Indian Summer and wild winter on the frosty fells, makes the most of an open fire and a seasonal glass of mulled wine.
The beautiful lakes with dramatic fells rising from there shores are just part of a great experience of excellent local food and fantastic activities. A holiday here can live long in the memory and get you coming back for more.
4 Town End is ideally situated in the Mosedale Area. It is a quieter part of the Lake District, yet only a 20 minute drive from the bustling town of Keswick. Despite it's out of the way location, Mosedale has lots to offer. The surrounding fells are breathtaking. Blencathra is a local favourite and its impressive ridge, 'Sharp Edge' is a challenge for the most hardened mountain walker. The cycling around here is unrivalled, the 'Back o' Skiddaw' route is a must and the cycle network's Coast to Coast route, runs close by. There is even an excellent cycle cafe in Greystoke, where you can refuel and make repairs.
The villages of Hesket Newmarket and Caldbeck are 10 minutes drive, both having cafes and pubs serving good food. Hesket Newmarket even has its own brewery, so it's worth the trip to sample the local ales.
A bit further afield is the magnificent Ullswater lake, offering numerous water sports and activities on its waters. More wonderful walking routes can be found in the Patterdale area, including the impressive Hellvellyn range and more relaxing walks along the Ullswater shores.
Keswick town is only 20 minutes away and has many outdoor and rainy day activities alike. It's also perfect for a mooch round the shops, for gifts to take home and has a Booths supermarket, for all that you could need when you're here.
