CASA PEQUEÑA: a charming cottage style villa, enjoying one bedroom and perfect for single traveller or couples searching for a tranquil romantic getaway.

NO INFANTS OR CHILDREN UNDER 16 YEARS PERMITTED TO STAY.

To maintain the sense of privacy and calm. Hidden away in the gardens of a traditional Andalucían farmhouse (Cortijo Nuevo), lovely countryside location and just 2kms from the rugged Mediterranean coast and many diverse beaches. Enjoy the best of all Worlds; relaxing sub-tropical gardens, yet just a 5 minute drive to bustling market town of MOTRIL and the beach life it enjoys! Property being at sea level benefits from a wonderful climate (probably the best in mainland Europe), mild Winters and often a sea breeze during the long hot Summers - not an isolated cottage in the hills where access is often problematic.

Agriculture is more important to the local economy than tourism and the area has many large greenhouses producing all manner of salad crops for export to Northern Europe, sub-tropical fruit orchards dominate the landscape too.

The cottage is just 3kms from the centre of Motril town. An ideal touring base for the whole of Andalucía with excellent road networks, yet hidden away in lush tropical gardens - regularly described by guests as an oasis or haven. Granada city and Alhambra, less than 45 minute away driving through stunning mountain scenery.

The swimming pool and Summer kitchen terrace is shared with any guests staying in EL APARTAMENTO, another 1 bedroom holiday home hidden in the gardens. Usually just 1 or 2 travellers (no children).

Casa Pequeña has plenty of private outdoor space too; including a roof terrace with sea & mountain views and a large ground floor terrace with private BBQ. In addition there are many other terraces and communal areas in the gardens - the gardens were established and designed many years ago with privacy in mind. Sun or shady areas and many scented plants - keen gardeners welcome! LGBT. Suitable naturists.

A unique property, ideal for single travellers (writers or on retreat) or couples searching for something different - area remains traditional and Spanish. Socialised pet dogs welcome, maximum three free of charge (advance notice required). Owner has two waggy dogs who are often found snoozing in the gardens, if wary of pet dogs, perhaps search for a more suitable holiday home.

Getting around

Car highly recommended (unless you want to simply rest in the exotic garden or poolside), secure parking area. There is a limited bus service to nearby Motril 3kms (only 5 daily!), 10 minutes away. There modern bus station with Alsa coaches in all directions. Also many taxis serve the area.

Interaction with guest

Patrick the resident British owner living alone in the neighbouring farmhouse, available to help with any issues, problems or advice. Respects your privacy, happy to chat and drink wine, talk garden or simply keep out of the way - whichever you prefer.

True, so close to Motril with all it's tapas bars and great shopping, beaches and the like. Pity holiday over, Motril Summer fiesta started yesterday - 6 days and nights of merriment, although hard to believe in the silent gardens here....looking forward to welcomng you back in the future.

Owner's reply: Also disappointed that Casa Pequeña failed to match expectations and apologies for perceived shortcomings! Pleased that alternative and more suitable accommodation was found and holiday enjoyed. Nontheless, some clarification required: 1) - to quote after hasty departure some hours later; " sorry to have left your property so soon, the place was very quaint and charming but not to my husbands taste and not as he imagined it would be from photos on the web. He is rather OCD when it comes to cleanliness and was peturbed at the kitchen not being to his standard, oops and too much dust". This should have been brought to my attention face to face and perhaps could have been sorted, rather than driving away indicating they were off to familiarise themselves with nearby Motril. 2) Of course Casa Pequeña is always cleaned and prepared for travellers to a good standard and welcome pack popped into the fridge. The vast majority of travellers are perfectly satisfied and many return. However, if one arrives with a negative mindset and the need to do an in depth investigation on cleaning practices, brought about by OCD symptoms then I defy any rural Spanish cottage to pass! Often swallows, geckos and tree frogs visit, the lush jungle garden growth becomes an alien territory and 'unsafe' to spend time in. Plus 3 dogs wandering around and dozing in the sun become a worry, too! 3) - If considering a stay at Casa Pequeña, do some research on the internet (lots there), do not expect to find a sterile, spartan holiday-type villa. More as other Reviewers note; a quirky tranquil base and different from the regular rental home. 4) - Interestingly, despite being more than satisfied with the location. Alternative accommodation was found away from the Costa Tropical, 90 minutes away in a tourist resort at a 'luxury' hotel!

Casa Pequena is a most amazing tranquil place,if you love nature and dogs this is the place for you,my husband and myself stayed for 3 days,and we were made very welcome by Patrick and his dogs.there was a welcome pack on our arrival,everywhere was clean and cheerful,especially the beautiful gardens which you could spend all day in and still see different plants,and also listen to all the different creatures especially at night,if it gets too hot you can cool down in the pool and have your drinks in the poolside fridge,or even a poolside bbq ,you dont really need to go anywhere else but if you do it isnt far to go into Motril where there is always something going off,we will def be going again .

Owner's reply: So pleased that you enjoyed your time in Casa Pequeña and the January weather was mostly warm and sunny. Apologies for the barking on a couple of nights. Hector my cocker spaniel likes to communicate with any barking stray dogs in the area after Midnight. Normally, he sleeps inside my farmhouse at night, but he managed to escape a couple of times, I will keep a closer eye on him in future. Living here full time, I don't notice the distant barking from isolated fincas behind in the hills. Many country houses in Spain have guard dogs, part of life here...normally the gardens are an oasis of peace with few neighbours as many reviews suggest. Yes, eating out is very reasonable, being a Spanish area. Still possible to find 'menu del día' for less than 8€ in Motril to include wine! And of course Free tapas in most bars...

Owner's reply: Delighted you appreciated the ethos of the casita and enjoyed pottering and helping with the numerous flowers and plants. Yes, the bed is a standard Spanish double from the 19th Century (recent mattress though!) carved wood with footboard so not ideal for long people! If over 6 foot tall perhaps choose my other rental home here (El Apartamento) also listed with Tripadvisor with many posive reviews too. The gardens are so lovely: long balmy nights in Summer, occasionally travellers have been known to sleep outside under the starry skies or on the roof!

The aim of our short stay was to go and chill out for a short break. This was achieved from the moment Patrick opened the gates to his beautiful oasis. Casa Pequena is a beautiful mix of traditional (even if a bit quirky in its lay out) build with modern facilities. The casa is equipped with everything you need for a self catering stay and we recommend the luxury welcome pack on your arrival. Patrick is very respectful of your privacy but also around if you need him. The dogs are just lovely and friendly. Hector took a liking to us and would often sit in the front room with us during siesta time. Just wish we were sat by the pool with a chilled drink letting time pass on by... Perfectly located for exploring the nearby areas of interest. We spent most of the time in and around the gardens and casa private terrace. Looking forward to a return visit.

How do damage deposits work?
