The Poitou-Charentes region
Gentle rolling hills, fields of sunflowers, deers grazing, stunning countryside, summers are warm, night sky filled with stars, no light pollution. This is a quiet part of France where time seems to have stopped still where and you can really relax or enjoy the many attractions this area has to offer.
We are on the border of the Vienne and the Loire, so an ideal base to visit the medieval towns of Chinon and Richelieu and the Châteaux of the Loire. If you like wine we have the vineyards of the Loire and the wines of the Haut Poitou which produces a very different wine.
The capital of the Vienne, Poitiers is 40 minutes away with bars and restaurants, boutiques and is steeped in history. For a day out that you will not forget go to the amazing Futuroscope, European parc of the moving image, which is fun for people of all ages.
L'Olivier is a few minutes walk to the village. It is small, but there is everything you need there if you do not want to travel far.
We have a wonderful baker, hairdresser, chemist, newsagent and a small supermarket. We even have a beautician where you can go and spoil yourself. There is a small recently renovated theatre. The 14th century Château is the Marie and has the tourist office inside. A lively village with concerts in the summer, a night market in July and a 'brocante' flea market in May.

"Beautiful gite set in tranquil grounds, a little slice of heaven!"
We have been to this pretty gite twice now and would highly recommend it! It's set in beautiful private grounds where the peace & tranquillity is second to none; the Boulanger is a 5 minute walk in to the village and the pan au chocolates are to die for! The surrounding area is ideal for visiting all the numerous Chateau's, pretty towns and villages. The gite itself is very well equipped; particularly the kitchen which has every utensil you could think of and the owners are extremely helpful and knowledgeable of the area.

"stylish, peaceful haven"
We loved our stay at this gite. It's beautifully furnished and stylishly decorated. The immediate surroundings are lovely, a section of garden all to yourselves, with bees buzzing around lavender bushes. This was where we had all of our meals. The peace and quiet is very restful, so you're guaranteed a good night's sleep too. Glyn and John are delightful hosts, friendly and fun and they've got plenty of ideas about days out and places to eat. We shall treasure our memories of our stay and hope to return in not too distant future.
