Description from owner

Perched on the edge of the hillside, right next to Montrejeau's viewpoint, overlooking the lush Pyrenees this lovely house is both elegant and spacious. A traditional town house, it has two balconies and three floors. The upper two floors each have three bedrooms and shower rooms.

The front door opens to a small square and local church. To the side is a tree shaded park for boules, parking and market. On Mondays you can step out in to the heart of the market to sample the local cheeses, fresh pastries, honey, fruit and vegetables. Be immersed in this traditional culture.

Open the garden doors onto a large balcony, (5 x 5 m, BBQ,table & chairs) , which has an unspoilt vista over the valley and foothills. It is the perfect place to enjoy a quiet breakfast, sunbathe or share a glass of wine with family and friends as the sun goes down, watching the cloud formation change over the snow capped mountains.

The Midi-Pyrénées region

With excellent year round activities available visitors can enjoy skiing, mountain biking and paragliding in the nearby resorts. Hillwalking, canoeing, white water rafting, canyon-ing, rope parks and swimming pools can also be found nearby. There are also tennis courts and a nine hole golf course in Montrejeau or if you prefer an eighteen hole, there is an excellent one in Lannemesan, only ten minutes up the road.

There are lots of ski resorts in this area the nearest being Luchon, Superbagners, a grand victorian spa town, with a valley road and cable lift you can be on the slopes in 30 mins.

The Caves at Gargas are also well worth a visit with the oldest recorded human hand prints in Europe. Each August Montrejeau hosts a large Folk festival, (54th this year), for five days, starting on 14th August, which is always great fun and mainly free. Or why not use Montrejeau as a base and follow the Tour De France and see the Mountain stages in the Pyrenees. Stage 9, Saint Girons to Bagneres-de-Bigorre is on the 7th July and runs very close by.

For a more cultural time enjoy the architechture, history, museums, art galleries, theatres, and music events in the nearby cities of Pau, Lourdes and Toulouse.

Spain with a tasty tapas is also a pleasent day trip, the border being only an hours drive away.

Or past an hour or two winding down by fishing in the lake or River Garonne.

This region offers so much to do and enjoy but why not just take in France, eat well, relax and enjoy the sunshine........

Montrejeau

Montrejeau rests in the foothills of the Pyrennes, which means panoramic views and easy access to the mountains. Sitting halfway between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic this region remains a well hidden secret, and an area of outstanding natural beauty.

Uncommercialised it offers visitors a taste of real France. With a weekly market on Mondays Montrejeau also has several boulangeries, cafes, bars, restaurants and shops, all within easy walking distance.

The Lake has a very good restaurant and swimming and pedelo's are available in the summer, with a playground in the park available all year round.

“Mountains of memories”

Reviewed 9 Apr 2013

Large roomed well appointed house set in a nice town. The terrace and garden are private and have a fantastic view over the valley. The town has bakery, mini market, butchers and Lidl is at the bottom of the hill. There is a bank and post office. Drinks are served in the local square and there are a few cafes that serve meals. A large market is held on Saturday. A golf course is nearby in the valley next to the river Garonne. There is also a lake that people swim in in summer. It is easy to get to the ski slopes in Luchon and the Spanish border. Can't wait to go again this year.

“Awesome view sitting on the back terrace enjoying a glass of wine”

Reviewed 25 Mar 2013

I stayed there with a group of friends and we enjoyed having such a spacious house with plenty of individual space but right in the middle of a small village with everything you might want on hand. No shortage of utensils or bedding and a very comfortable home with a distinct french feel. Great location with lakes and skiing options galore. Toulouse only 45 minutes by train and lunch in Spain also the same distance away.
