The Occitanie region

The Languedoc stretches from the Rhone Valley to the Spanish border and eastern Pyrenees, from the spectacular Massif Central mountain range, through hills and plains carpeted with vines and olive groves to the Mediterranean’s beaches and lagoons full of oyster and mussel beds. This rich diversity ensures that there is something to suit all tastes and interests.

The Roman towns of Nimes, Arles, Narbonne and Avignon are all within a days drive. The medieval town of St Guilham le Desert is not to be missed for its fabulous setting and it’s famous abbey.

Swimming in the river at the mouth of the Gorges d’Herault is only a ten minute drive; canoes can be hired on the large sandy beach for breathtaking views as you paddle up the gorge. The beautiful Lake Salagou is twenty minutes away and offers safe bathing, windsurfing, sailing, pedelos, bike hire and horse riding. Sandy beaches on the coast are all within forty minutes drive. Several excellent Golf courses are available in Montpellier, Lamalou les Bains and Beziers.

“Excellent apartment in beautiful little village with excellent view”

Reviewed 26 Jul 2015

The apartment is in excellent condition in one of the old buildings of this beautiful little village of Montpeyroux. The village has all you'll need, a wine bar/ restaurant, a bakers, a butchers, a grocers and a tabac as well as numerous caveaux. The owners are lovely and gave us a few bottles of their excellent wine, Sylvain is a well known wine maker and you can see why once you've tasted it. He offers complimentary tastings too, but we ran out of time unfortunately. You access the apartment through his Caveaux each day which is amazing itself. Once you're in the apartment the communal area is spacious and comfortable with a well equipped kitchen. We spent all our time on the terrace though which has a great view out towards the hills and vineyards with a BBQ. Bedrooms are comfortable and each effectively has an ensuite which is lovely. It was very hot while we were there which meant the air con unit in the living area was on full whack throughout so we could get some decent sleep. Within 10 minutes is the Pont du Diable, which is a great sight and also good for swimming, about 25 mins to the Lac du Salagu which is also excellent for swimming and some water sports and a trip to a number of great beaches is only about 45-60 mins. We had a great time and couldn't really have asked for any better. Thank you!

“A tranquil getaway to relax and enjoy the best ine and local food.”

The apartment is next door to the owners house, if you don't like the owners so close this would not be for you. The owners do not intrude though. There were two restaurants in the village though we were told one was closing in 2011. Both apartments are upstairs so It is not suitable for those that have difficulty with stairs. Otherwise if you want an apartment in a friendly village that still has a local community, is in the best vineyard for miles, and close to motorways to get easily around. You won't be disappointed.

Thanks Russell, I had my own family staying here this winter a really cosy setting in winter. I am sure you are looking forward to your return to Domaine Aupilhac this summer.
