Location description from owner

The Andalucia region

Only 45 minutes inland but a world away from the Costa del Sol, Ronda is set on the edge of two mountain Natural Parks and is surrounded by many white mountain villages and towns. The Atlantic coast near Cadiz is around 1.5 hours drive and the historic city of Jerez 1.25 hours.

The city of Ronda is world famous for its bullring and Tajo (100m deep gorge ) which separates the old and new towns. Wander the old streets taking in the atmosphere and visit some of the old buildings, museums and Roman baths. There are many tapas bars and restaurants to enjoy a beer whist people watching. In the new town take a stroll up the pedestrianised shopping street and visit some of the many independent shops. Beyond Ronda lie olive groves and vineyards making boutique wines.

The area offers many opportunities to sight see, walk, hike the mountain trails, bird watch or just enjoy a long lingering lunch at one of the many rural restaurants.

Montejaque

Montejaque couldn’t be in a better location if you’re wanting to escape the Costa crowds. It’s a charming, traditional Andalucian ‘pueblo blanco’ (white village) with some of the friendliest locals you’ll find anywhere in Spain. locally many leisure pursuits are available; walking, climbing, tennis, horse riding, bird watching. Set in the stunning mountainous scenery of the Serrania de Ronda and Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park with enormous potential for walking and a whole range of adventurous (and not so adventurous) outdoor activities. There are now four via Ferrata's in the vicinity for those with a head for heights.
The nearby Caves at Piletta, where you can see early pre-historic cave paintings, are an absolute must – but don’t expect a slick guided tour and stylish gift shop. It’s much better than that! The village itself is a maze of narrow streets and there’s more than a few tapas bars and cafes to explore as well as some restaurants, this is a quiet, rural place – fast becoming a fashionable and slightly bohemian retreat for art and stressed Spaniards from the big cities. You won’t find too many English speaking people here, but the locals are always happy to welcome outsiders.

You’ll probably spend quite some time in nearby Ronda. Although a busy tourist centre (and for good reason) Ronda is a wonderful place. Let it get under your skin. Here you’ll find restaurants aplenty, one of the oldest bull rings in Spain (well worth a look, even if you hate the idea of the ‘sport’) and Ronda’s main attraction, El Tajo – the enormous, stunning gorge. Linger on the Puente Neuvo and dare to look down into the gorge’s depths (trying not to think about the poor people who used to be thrown to their doom from where you’re stood). If you can drag yourself away from the snail’s pace village life of Montejaque or the buzzing atmosphere of Ronda, why not go on a day trip further afield, the magnificent cities of Granada or Seville. In fact, if you’ve got time, you could do both – arguably two of the most wonderful cities in Spain.

“Nice house in lovely courtyard setting”

Reviewed 2 Jan 2014

Nice modern house set in a landscaped courtyard garden with pool shared with other residents. Not a large house but adequate for max 4 people.

Thanks for your review. Glad you enjoyed your stay at our holiday home in Montejaque and had some winter sunshine. Martyn

“Relaxing Autumn Break”

Reviewed 15 Nov 2013

My partner, our 8 week old baby and I all stayed here for a relaxing Autumn break. The house is situated in a small complex around a grassed area and small pool. The house itself was compact but clean and had everything we needed and we appreciated having the two floors enabling us to leave the baby asleep upstairs. The house is easily walkable to the local shops and bars of the attractive village and we had plenty of chance to practice some Spanish with the friendly locals. The area itself is very scenic and I went for a few runs and hired a bike from the tourist office to explore the mountains a bit further and take advantage of the sun. Ronda is an easy drive away for all its tourist sites and large supermarkets etc. The owners were easy to deal with and kindly left some wine and beer for our arrival.

“Magnificent Montejaque”

Reviewed 20 Aug 2013

Our family of four enjoyed a week long stay in Casa de Limon. The weather was glorious and the surrounding area was very picturesque. We were lucky to stay during Montejaque's festival week, so enjoyed attending many musical and cultural events late into the evening. The owners were extremely helpful and attentive and provided loads of helpful information about the village and local area, including walking guides and maps. We particularly enjoyed walks in the hills surrounding the village, trips to local towns and villages, and swimming in the local lake of Il Playita, near Zahara. We enjoyed eating out and had a wonderful birthday celebration meal at La Casita. The property itself is compact but very well equipped and the shared pool area is very pretty and well maintained. We would have no hesitation in recommending this property to anyone interested in experiencing rural Andalucia.

Hi many thanks for your review. We want all our guests to enjoy their precious holiday time and are really pleased you had a great time and got in to life in Montejaque. Like you we enjoy a glass of wine in the square watching village life in Andalucia! Wayne is a really good guide for cycling so pleased you found time to hire his services at Hike and Bike and had the energy for a day on the bikes with him. Regards and thank you again. “great”

Reviewed 10 Jun 2013

We spent 2 weeks in May at Casa Limon. It is a comfortable, well equipped home in a small friendly complex. Communication with the owner Martyn was excellent. His travel guidebooks & folder with information about the local area were very helpful. We heard the weather in Spain this year has been unusual & we had weather that was hot, cold, wet, and dry but that was not a problem if you are prepared for anything. We quickly felt at home in this small village & were happy our visit was at a time of one of the major village celebrations. Montejaque is a good base for visits to other white villages. We were pleased how close it was to Ronda, with an easy drive on a good road. If you have visited the big tourist areas of southern Spain this is a great place to relax & see the real Spain.

“A beautifully appointed holiday home in a great location.”

Reviewed 26 Mar 2013

The service from Martyn the owner was fantastic. We felt incredibly well looked after with lots of info and guidelines way over and above what you might expect, to help us get the most out of the area and our stay. His communications before our trip helped us to feel really confident about our booking, and we were not let down. The house itself is lovely, and has lots of extras you might not expect (great range of DVDs and local travel guides), and was very comfortable, in a friendly and peaceful development. The location was great, right in the heart of the town, and a good base for exploring further afield. We would definitely recommend Casa de Limon.

Glad you found the information helpful and had a good holiday. Thank you for your review. Martyn

“Lovely Holiday Home in Fantastic Location”

Reviewed 13 Oct 2012

We travelled here in October for some autumn sun and were not disappointed! However even if the weather hadn't been good it would still have been a brilliant holiday. The house was lovely and had all the facilities for a comfortable stay, even a wide selection of DVDs for a rainy day if that ever did happen. The amount of information on the surrounding area is very useful as there are guidebooks and a information folder in the house. The kitchen was well equipped. It is set in a small complex with a pool, very quiet and peaceful. Having a glass of wine sat on the balcony in the balmy evenings was perfect. There is also a terrace with outdoor furniture. There are lots of shops and bars in the village and it is within easy distance of Ronda, a larger town in a magnificent setting. Some day trips that we did were: Marbella, Seville, El Chorro gorge and a swimming/kayaking lake near there and my favourite, a small nearby village called Grazalema where we did a fantastic walk to a mirador (the name escapes me but I think it was El Boyers). I hadn't realised how much there was to do in the area and wish we had booked to stay longer! Definitely would recommend this house and the area!

Thank you for your review. Glad you had a great time and liked our corner of Andalucia. Martyn

“A suberb holiday house in a stunning location”

Reviewed 18 Sep 2012

Casa de limon is a clean well furnished thoughtfully presented holiday home. The standard of furniture and bedding much better than many holiday lets !! The owner is very helpful and knowledgeable about the local area --wonderful walks and scenery-- and great restaurants. The house is part of a small immaculate complex maintained with great pride. Air conditioning works perfectly and is a joy in the heat. There is a large private patio with table chairs etc -- perfect for relaxed dinners. Do have tapas in the square in Montejaque , do walk up to the mirador (viewpoint) and do book dinner in nearby Molina del Santo (reccommended by owner) We had a great holiday here and hope to return.

Glad you enjoyed your holiday. We try to keep it equiped to a higher standard than a normal self catered property as we use it as much as we can for our holidays.

“Compact, comfortable and full of character...”

Reviewed 21 Aug 2012

Beautiful part of Spain - great for culture vultures, chilling by the pool or walking/ cycling up and down mountains! Lovely accommodation and surrounding area. Close to Granada and the famous Alhambra - try to pick a day when it's not 38 degrees in the shade though! Ronda is worth visiting for shopping, history, meals out, as is Granada. This is the place to go if you want to absorb the real Spain... the real Spanish people - you have to make an effort to converse in Spanish, even if the most you can muster is 'Hola!' or 'Gracias'. The house is full of character, with everything you could need for an enjoyable stay. The pool was great too. The village has everything you need, with bigger supermarkets 10mins away in Ronda. Martyn very prompt at answering questions - everything organised and efficient. A lovely holiday had by all.

Glad you enjoyed your stay in Montejaque. As you say it is the 'real Spain'. Sorry it was so hot , but I guess the air conditioning made sleeping pleasant and it's great to jump in the pool to cool off! Martyn

“Beautiful location.Very comfortable accomodation.”

Scenery here is fantastic. Providing you can cope with hills this is wonderful walking country. Unspoilt very quiet village but with plenty of places to eat. Casa Limon is lovely-country style accomodation thats perfect for the location. Very clean and well appointed. Quiet location looking over small pool.We had a very relaxing time there.

“Enjoy the mountains”

Reviewed 28 Jun 2012

It really was a good deal. The house is complete, neat, well documented. Martyn provide your will all the information. The village is really little and people are nice. The cool is nice for kids. The mountains are beautiful. We enjoyed the South with visiting Ronda, Sevilla, Malaga, Nerja, Gibraltar, Tarifa and even Lisaboa. Aldo Cordoba and Granada are also very nice and reachable. If you love nature. Don't dislike long driving in the mountains to visit nice places. You like house with luxury. You don't need a private swimming pool. This is a good deal! We loved our stay.
