While restoring the house, the owners tried to integrate the house in the natural surroundings as much as possible : the parking spaces have been landscaped in a manner to fit the surroundings, the orchard was mainly kept in its original state so visitors can enjoy the wonderful Umbrian naturue as much as possible.

The Umbria region
From the apartment you have the stunning view of the Tiber valley with its Lago di Alviano (a natural Oasis, protected by the WWF, perfect for bird lovers).
Summer temperatures can reach the higher 20°/lower 30° C, but being situated on a height of 350 m a.s., the nights are nice and cool (not cold).
Winter can be cold, but mostly sunny. However that a nightly storm can wipe the air clean every once in a while.
Every season in the green Umbria, which by the way is called Il cuore verde d'Italia ( = the green heart of Italy) has it's own beautiful colours.
For those who like to go on long day trips, there is a lot to see in the area.
Rome is just 1 hour by train and can also be easily reached by car and Firenze can be reached in a little less than 2 hours (trains leave from the nearby Attigliano/Bomarzo for Rome and Ovieto for Firenze).
Orvieto is a must see if you are in the area, with it's Duomo and the Capella di San Brizio.
Viterbo, where for a while the Popes resided, Cività di Bagnoreggio ('il paese che muore' = the village that is dying), Amelia, Caprarola with the Palazzo Farnese, Bomarzo with the 'Parco dei Mostri', the seaside, where many Etruscan remains and burial sites can be found, is just 120 km away.
We could go on and on and on ....
For those who like to remain close to home, Montecchio has to offer some astonishing things as well.
It is situated on the flank of the Monte Croce di Sera aside the Tiber valley.
There is for example the 'centro storico' the mideaval centre of town, where not even cars can enter, but which is still very much alive and where people still live like some 100 years ago.
Montecchio has an archeological site, the 'Necropoli Pre-Romano del Vallone di San Lorenzo', where pre-roman graves can be visited and where you can get either by car or by taking the nicely indicated walkway through the forrest.
Montecchio is widely known for its olive-oil, some say even the best in the world. The ART of growing, keeping, harvesting and making olives and their oil can be investigated in the town's own olive-oil museum. If you make an appointment they will be more than glad to give you a taste of what they have to offer.
During the month of August there is a 'sagra' almost every day in the village itselve or in one of the villages in the vincinity : Montecchio has its 'sagra del cinghiale' (wild boar), 'sagra del bignè', ... On these occasions the whole town meets in the streets (the famous 'passeggiata'), eating, drinking, talking, or just watching.
At Christmas time the 'loccalità' di Tenaglie offers a 'Presepe vivente' : every single person in town has his/her own task : there is a mother Mary and a Joseph, with a real baby Jesus, pastors, animals, the children are making cheese or bread (which is offered to the visitos) and all this in the 'cantina's' and basements of the houses in the streets, where every participant is dressed in the way of 2000 years ago.
Also to be mentioned, are the 'festa del olio nuovo', 'festa della castagne', the procession of the Holy Madonna, ...
