Further details

For wheelchair users there is an adapted downstairs bedroom with an en-suite wet room, there is a wheel in shower chair. The main salon, dining and kitchen areas are also accessible but the kitchen does not have lowered worktops. Most light switches are at a lower level.

Further details indoors

The living area and kitchen are all open plan. There are 2 TV's in the property allowing the adults and children to watch different things, the TV on the mezzanine also has a playstation. We have bug screens on the windows allowing you to them open without being worried about flies etc. We can provide ventilation fans for when it becomes very hot, but usually the house remains cool due to the stone walls. For the colder months there is heating.

Further details outdoors

The pool is shared with guest at our bed and breakfast but in reality this is usually only 2-4 people at the most and these guest stay for shorter periods and are out and about more. Therefore, La Vigne guests are the primary pool users, but at 16x14m it is large enough for everyone. The pool shelves gradually and is ideal for young children or non swimmers. It is alarmed. There is a small splash pool for tiny children. The Hot Tub is adults only. The pool is generally available for use from mid May until mid to the end of Sept depending on weather conditions. Te Jacuzzi Hot Tub is available most of the year round.

The property is set in 4 hectares of grounds and gardens we have numerous fruit and nut trees which guests are welcome to help themselves to. In the garden there is a covered outside lounge area for enjoying a good book or watching the sunset with a glass of local wine. There is a table tennis table, a football and rounders field and hammocks/swings in the garden.

Location description from owner

The Dordogne region

This is vineyard country, mile upon mile of vines and wonderful wine! In addition to that there is a lot of history in this area. Montcaret our local village 1.5km has a Gallo-Roman museum with wonderful mosaics. The last battle of the Hundred Years War took place at Catillon la Bataille 8kms from here. They have weekend re-enactments in the summer, 500 actors take part and it ends with spectacular fireworks, a must!

Montcaret

Saint Emilion is a UNESCO World Heritage Site famed for its' wine. The town is beautifully preserved and one favourite trip is into the catacombs underneath the town.

“Tranquil, rustic beauty”

Reviewed 19 Jul 2012

We stayed here with friends and our dog during the first week of June, we arrived first and had a wonderful welcome from Cath and Sue. They were great at introducing our dog to theirs and telling us the best walks. We stayed in the gite and were self catering, but requested a meal for the Sunday evening and the food and service was superb. Sue is an excellent cook and nothing was too much trouble that evening or throughout the holiday. Whilst the gite is quiet and away from it all, the local shops and boulangerie are very close and it is easy to get to all nearby tourist destinations. Despite our misgivings the tram system worked well and facilitated a pleasant trip to this cultural centre. We chose a bad week for weather and tho' it was not good enough for us to try the inviting pool, we did go to a wine tasting at a local chateau. I would recommend this holiday to anyone wanting a quiet stress free holiday, one minor issue was the coverage of the wifi which to say the least is limited.

Thanks for reviewing us Barrie, Pat and Suki. Since you were here Barrie I have improved the WiFi coverage to the gite as a result of discussions with you. Thanks.

“What a find!”

Reviewed 7 Apr 2012

We stayed in the wonderful little gite for a week in March and can't praise it enough. It's full of character with many of the original features lovingly restored. It's also spotlessly clean and well equipped. The owners, Sue and Cath were so kind and helpful and gave us such a warm welcome. The gite has a lovely outside area with bbq and lots of space to relax in the beautiful garden. The area is so peaceful with lots of lovely walks from the gite. We also got to sample the local wines which were delicious. We're already planning our next trip back. Thanks Sue and Cath.

“A B&B and Gite as B&B's and Gites are meant to be (and be)!”

Reviewed 28 Feb 2012

I enjoyed five weeks of Maison Arc en Ciel to write a theatre play. It was wonderful! The gite is cosy, clean and well equipped. The site is great as well: in the Bergerac vineyards, with great views. It's not too far from Montcaret where you will find a shop, newspapers and a nice bakery. However: my bread was brought to me every morning by my wonderful hosts Sue and Cath. They do very delicious cooking as well, with local products and local wine. I would recommend this beautiful place to everyone: It's the best of France combined with a lovely touch of English- and Irishness of Sue and Cath. You will find an authentic French gite, beautiful nature, swimming pool with view, good cooking, excellent service and professional hosts who look after your well being with just the right touch!
