Location description from owner

The Galicia region

Galicia is often referred to as Green Spain. Being on the Atlantic coast, it is quite different from the Mediterranean coast and has few foreign tourists.

The coastline is dramatic and the beaches vast stretches of white sand with few visitors.

Many fiestas are held in the surrounding villages especially in the summer.

Monfero

The large city of A Coruna is 30 minutes away, as is the airport. The historic town of Santiago de Compostela is one hour's drive away and the Roman walled town of Lugo 50 minutes away.

There are many excellent restaurants in the area, with the food always being freshly prepared in their kitchens.

The beach in Pontedeume is large and with very safe swimming and several beach restaurants. Market day in Pontedeume is Saturday.

“Memorable”

Reviewed 16 Apr 2013

We stayed at Prado Da Fonte on a number of occasions and each experience was better than the previous one. We were there during Winter, Spring and Summer and each had its own unique charm. The house is warm, beautiful and tastefully decorated. There is a piano there too for those who know how to play it. The view from the garden overcomes you with peace and tranquility, and the starry nights are just the most romantic. The walks around the place are lovely and the air clean and fresh. On those walks you will stumble over many Galician bars hidden away in the hills, not to mention the unexpected top class restaurants. If you fancy something a bit more lively, Pontedeume is only 10 minutes away by car, an old town on the coast full of restaurants that serve amazing food and bars, a Saturday market and lovely square. At night, the place comes to life and is transformed into a party town that stays up all night. This truly is one of the most beautiful spots. I would strongly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable vacation.

“Wonderful, relaxing, escape!”

superb views over the golf course in the garden. comfortable beds ansd armchairs, stylish accommodation, wonderful walks and views of coast, close to Ponte de Eume, a delightful small town with everything you could need.

“Very comfortable accommodation in a delightful setting”

Reviewed 15 Apr 2013

The owners have restored this lovely old farmhouse in character but with up to date facilities and in a very sympathetic manner. Sitting out in the garden beside the traditional horreo one gets peaceful views over the countryside.

“Choice piece of Galicia”

Reviewed 7 Dec 2012

My wife and I spent a very pleasant week here. Its a beautifully restored, modernised, comfortable, old, stone Galician farm house with its own typical Galician stone corn crib and extensive views of attractive farmland , woodland and distant hills. Big handsome kitchen/ eating area, but when we weren't out and about we spent a lot of time relaxing on the large verandah which is great. There are loads of great walks in the area over hills, in woods and along the long beaches. Ponte de Ume is easily accessible (by private transport, you need to have a car) and is an attractive lively seaside place with many bars , taverns and restaurants. Terrific seafood especially the octopus on Sundays. There is also a good restaurant near the farmhouse, El Frances, run by a nice family, 3 mins by car. An unexpected plus if somewhat infuriating was the little rustic 4 hole pitch and put golf in the grounds. Recommendable.

I believe that 'infuriating was perceived as a negative characteristic of a golf course. On the contrary!

“stunning location”

Reviewed 6 Nov 2012

For 2 families to share it is perfect. The house is very spacious with lots of entertainment possibilities, a big kitchen and huge garden ( with a 9 hole pitch and putt course !) It is set in a remote and beautiful setting with cows and cheap wine in ample supply... The loca beachesl ( 20 k) are awesome, remote and quiet... even in high season ( no traffic and cheap beach side eats). Friendly locals and excellent local, drink and music to be had....Galicia comes highly recommended and this is a great spot to explore from... just ask the man inppontenueme and he will point you in the right direction.

For your information, the 'man in Pontedeume' is the owner who is always happy to help out with suggestions for visits and places to eat and drink.
