Description : Ta Skalopatia is a family home with garden, restored by European-Award architects, Alexander & Haris Calligas for it's English owners.
Exposed beams, bamboo ceiling battens in upper rooms, traditional fireplace in living room.
Antiques, clocks and contemporary architect-designed furniture made specifically for this house.
Modern bathrooms and comfortable beds. Marble, stone and wooden floors.
Open fire in Winter.

Location: It is situated in a quiet south-facing position within the historic castle (Kastro) walls, surrounded by pedestrian-only cobblestone lanes and is near the central square.
Being at a similar level to the Kastro entrance gate is reached without steep climbs.
Just a very short walk to the Portelo for swimming.

Think of romantic hand-holding, family enjoyment, walking in the nearby mountains, discovering autumn and spring flowers, viewing Byzantine remains and culture, swimming at sandy and rocky beaches nearby.

Location description from owner

The Laconia Region

Monemvasia has also been adopted as the name of the local District, within the regional area of Lakonia.
Monemvasia Kastro is a unique location for exploring the region, as it is both an island and, with its causeway connection to the mainland, also an ideal base to venture wider locally.
Activities include:- Sandy and rocky beaches nearby, Walking in the mountains (to a taverna?), Classical ruins (Sparta), Underwater cities (Punta & Plytra), Other Byzantine sites (Mistras), Crusader castles (Geraki), Medieval villages (Mani), Colourful caves (behind Neapoli), Turtle beaches (near Gythion),Greek and international open-air theatre (Sparta). Local winemakers (Velias), Easy access to islands of Elafonnisos and Kythera. Ferry boat to Crete

Monemvasia

Perched on the sloping south side and on the top of a massive rock set in the middle of the sea, Monemvasia Kastro is swathed in history.
From Byzantine through Frankish, Venetian and Turkish times to today it reflects Greece's history itself.
Monemvasia is a fortified town on an island, one & half kilometres long, connected by a causeway to the mainland port/yacht marina of Gythera and sandy beaches.
Within the Kastro, an Archeological preservation area, is the ruined upper town (pano poli), with Agia Sophia and remains of Byzantine fortifications and houses; and the lower town (kato poli), with 13th century cathedral, 40 churches in all, museum in an old mosque, inhabited houses, hotels, shops, tavernas, cafe's and bars.
Swimming and sunbathe from level stone area, called Portelo, with ladder to sea.
Ta Skalopatia is a perfect destination for a healthy dose of culture and romanticism combined with a perfectly relaxing stay.
