Description from owner

Description

After a beautiful country drive, which takes you past plenty of fields full of orange and lemon trees and lots of quaint little farmhouses with original water mills, you reach the double gates that take you up the drive to the brow of the hill and this country oasis called Monte das Figueiras, a Portuguese estate style property near the picturesque village of Moncarapacho and 20 minutes from the beaches of Fuzeta and the islands. The newly built main house ('fazenda') immediately invites you in by way of authentic and antique imported Bali double doors leading to the double height entrance hall. This is the heart of the property, hence the large round family table with chairs and antique teakwood benches, seated in the 8 meters high hallway leading to the open plan kitchen with modern steam oven, induction cooking, red and black granite dresser and hand painted tiles and an open fire place. Large wooden French doors open up to a pergola covered terrace with tables (wrought iron and glass)

Large wooden French doors open up to a pergola covered terrace with tables (wrought iron and glass) and chairs. The large stairway in the hall takes you up to a vide with library, underneath the wood feature ceiling with indirect lighting and from there via the landing to the cozy living room with seating around an open fire. Two large balconies offer views over the rolling hills and the double French doors take you out on to a partly covered wide terrace with BBQ and outside kitchen part. From here you have an almost 360 degrees view, to the sea in the South and the mountains in the North. A few steps down from here and you are at the pool area, which because of the sloping land is also only a few steps from the ground floor level.

Location description from owner

The Algarve region

Moncarapacho Algarve - a rural retreat but with easy access to the beaches and the Eastern AlgarveMoncarapacho Algarve PortugalMoncarapacho is a small country village in the eastern Algarve not far from Faro. It is set in beautiful countryside which is home to growers of oranges, lemons and figs, and the area is also a big producer of flowers. The village itself is situated 8km northeast of Olhao and about 10km east of Estoi. Being in the less commercialised Eastern Algarve, the area is quite quiet. Being a rural village, Moncarapacho is certainly not overrun by holidaymakers, although it is becoming a more popular destination along with a few of its neighbouring villages. The real attraction of the village is its relaxed and friendly atmosphere and its unhurried pace of life. The village offers the basics, such as supermarkets, banks, a post office, restaurants and bars and also a weekly market. You can also find traditional crafts here such as leatherwork for horses and the manufacture of ceramics, a good ceramics shop being found on the outskirts of the village. Located where it is, within a 20-minute drive of Faro airport and only 3km from the IP1 motorway, Moncarapacho makes the rest of the Algarve easily accessible, if you have hired a car (which is definitely recommended).Things to do in and near Moncarapacho AlgarveThere's not a huge amount to do in Moncarapacho, although the small chapel, Santo Cristo is worth visiting along with the small museum next to it that has items dating to pre-roman times, with some harking back to the stone age.Over a long weekend at the beginning of August each year, Moncarapacho has a huge agricultural market, with local cuisine on offer with plenty of music and dancing. It attracts people from a large surrounding area. Each February, Moncarapaho holds its annual carnival, and while not as big and grand as some, seem to bring the whole village out in support. It's a colourful event with townsfolk dressing up in costumes and floats pulled by tractors. If you are around at this time of year it's well worth attending. The nearest beach to Moncarapacho is the Ihla da Fuzeta beach, which is 8 km away. It can be reached by a 5-minute ferry ride, which runs frequently from Fuzeta. A little further east along the coast is Pedras del Rei where a narrow-gauge train takes you to the beautiful Barril beach. If you are staying in Moncarapacho, then no doubt you will have hired a car. This makes visiting some of the great towns of the Eastern Algarve, such asOlhao, Tavira and Vila Real de Santo Antonio. Of course, the more popular resorts of the Central Algarve are also easily accessible. The Eastern Algarve is becoming an increasingly popular destination forgolfers. The nearest golf courses to Moncarapacho are Quinta de Cima golf course and Quinta da Ria golf course. For more details of golf in the area, click on our Eastern Algarve Golf Holidays page. Golf courses to the west of Faro, which are easily accessible, include the four golf courses within the Quinta do Lago estate and the two Vale do Lobo golf courses
