Description from owner
The guestroom, with its summer kitchen and terrace, is at the end of the farmhouse which is situated in a small hamlet in the countryside. The farmhouse is recently renovated by Tania & Bob. The hamlet ca. 5 mins. inland from the small villiage of Sta. Catarina and around 35 mins. from the airport. An old Portuguese farming community still exists and it is like stepping back in time. Relax in the peace and quiet of this little part of original Portugal, not yet changed by tourism. Discover its beautiful countryside with its wonderful nature and lovely, friendly people. Here one can buy their local honey and smoked sausages and hams. Kilometres of tracks to walk are scattered around the hillside adding to the tranquillity of this area. Short walks to a local cafe or longer walks with a bottle of wine and olives to savour while enjoying the fantastic views these hills have to offer. Or laze by the pool. Taran is also an artist working with "Glass Fusing" in her little studio

The property is built on sloping terrain and thus there are steps around the property and because of this it is unfortunately not suitable for people with mobility problems.
Due to its countryside location a car is highly recommended but for those not wanting a car we are available for a "taxi service". A separate price list can be supplied if of interest.
There is wireless internet access, not the fastest or most reliable but OK for most uses.
At the moment there is no mobile phone signal (some phones however do work sometimes) but the phone companies are working on it.

Location description from owner
The Algarve region
The East Algarve coastline is dominated by the nature reserve, the Ria Formosa. This is lagoon running east from Faro to Monte Rota. The most stunning beaches on this part of the coast are offshore and access to them is by various boats or water taxis or "little train". The closest beach, ca. 20 mins. by car, is Fuzeta. Fuzeta is a small town with bars and cafes and restaurants and a clean sandy beach. Fuzeta is unusual because it has an onshore beach and offshore beaches accessed by boats. Our favourite beach is Barril, 25 mins. by car, with a choice to walk to the offshore beach or take the little train which costs €1,-.The East Algarve, because of the building restrictions in the nature reserve, is not yet so spoiled by tourism and a lot of the towns and villages have still managed to maintain their original charm. Not least Tavira. Our favourite.Spain is only ca. 40 mins. away by car so the area is also ideal as a base for exploring this area on both sides of the border. For example, Seville is only 90 mins away. The countryside is ideal for hiking. Hilly with lots of tracks for every type of hiker.
In the immediate area there are 2 villages, Sta. Catarina and Moncarapacho.Sta. Catarina. is a small sleepy village with cafes, restaurants, small supermarkets, bank (ATM) and chemist with its church at its centre. Sta. Catarina is famous for its tile making. Tiles still made by hand from the belt of clay running behind Sta. Catarina.Moncarapacho is larger and more of a "working" town than village. Here one can sample local workers lunch menus at very competitive prices and good restaurants for evening dinners. Prices have not yet reached the tourist levels here but that does not mean food is not of a high quality.Possibility to go horseriding in the local hills.

“A serene, idyllic, welcoming and hidden gem”
My partner and I always like to self cater, and try to find holiday lets which are different and hidden from mainstream tourism. We struck gold with Sta Catarina, hosted by the marvellous Taran and Robert, ably assisted by the delightful Sophie the family dog. The facilities are lovely with a fantastic pool, and sun deck, our suite consisted of a cool airy wet room, and our bedroom was basic but lovely with double bed and TV, but our best bit was the open air kitchen which allowed us to breakfast looking over a beautiful vista every minute of the day. It is easily accessible from Faro Airport, but a hire car is essential to get the best of your holiday. Olhao and Tavira are close by and the seafood of the region is particularly good in Olhao as the fish market and it's daily catch are landed 30 metres from the restaurants. The weather was superb topping out at 35oC, and there were many historic sites available in and around the area with admission from 1-2.5€ and so many beaches to choose from you can spend an afternoon at a different beach every day. But the holiday was made for us by the unique situation and remoteness of Sta Catarina, and the warm, open friendliness of our hosts(Taran is an artist who specialises in glassworks) and the site is full of her beautiful work, which make unique and lovely souvenirs. Would I recommend this to friends? Without doubt, but selfishly I would prefer it remained a unique hidden gem, but no one who visits will leave disappointed, a truly beautiful, welcoming and unique villa with an air of quiet serenity, we left truly relaxed. Thank you so much Taran, Robert & Sophie xx
“Lovely and quiet place”
We stayed 2 weeks in the Farmhouse. The welcome by Taran and Robert was very warm. The place is very qiuet and you can really relax. Sitting at the swimmingpool or in front of the room. You can use the fresh vegatables from the land (peppers, grapes, etc.). The oudoor kitchen is great. Your room keeps free from cooking smells;-) The room is equipped with everything you need. Taran and Robert are very kind and they will advise you restaurants or nice place to visit. We have been to two restaurants they have recommended us: and they were really great. The bakery is 5 minute drive and the big super market is 15 minute drive. I would recommend this place to anyone who likes peace and qiuetness.
“stylish accommodation in beautiful, peaceful surroundings”
We received a very warm and welcoming reception from our hosts who went to great effort to ensure that our stay was hugely enjoyable. The property is situated in beautiful countryside near a small hamlet where rural life continues as it has done for many years. The property itself is stylish, well appointed and very comfortable. It is set within stunning gardens which have been lovingly designed and built by the owners. The pool area is particularly welcoming when the sun is shining and has plenty of shaded areas with wonderful views. The surrounding countryside is easily accessible by a network of quiet paths and our hosts were kind enough to give us guided walks and to tell us about the local flora and fauna. There are good local restaurants within walking distance and the beautiful, historic town of Tavira and its beaches are just a short drive away. An added bonus is the opportunity to watch the owner at work in her glass art studio and to have the opportunity to purchase a beautiful souvenir or two. We would not hesitate to recommend this idyllic property and its lovely hosts to anyone.
