“Comfortable relaxing stay....”
My partner and I stayed at Les Chauprenades for a week at the end of June 2017 along with our dog Martha. Upon arrival we were greeted by the very hospitable Brian and Hilary and the wonderfully exuberant dog Lily...for us the gite was perfect and for the dogs it was love at first sight. The tone of the week was set and the happy and relaxed vibe proceeded throughout our stay at this brilliantly equipped home from home. Brian and Hilary were discretely on hand to offer advice on local markets, restaurants and dog walks etc. We loved the peace and quiet provided by the rural location and also the location-nothing was ever more than a short drive away and we found some great places to walk, eat and shop. Unfortunately the weather was a little inclement (unexpectedly rainy) but that didn't dampen our spirits- we utilised perhaps the more autumnal pastimes provided by the gite and watched plenty of movies from the well stocked library! Would definitely recommend to couples wanting a relaxing holiday and in the beautiful French countryside.
Owner's reply: Thank you very much for your kind comments. We are so pleased you had a relaxing holiday with us despite being unlucky with the weather. We hope that you will come back again and explore the area further in the sun. We enjoyed meeting you both and of course Martha. Lily missed her terribly when you went home.
“Perfect holiday home!”
Thank you very much to Hilary and Brian (and Lily) for being the perfect hosts, helping to make our holiday perfect. We had a fabulously relaxing time at Les Chauprenades and felt totally at home there. Just a memory now but a very nice one. It was lovely to meet you both too and we hope to come back again. Everyone else has written so much about the facilities and how well-equipped the gate is and we would definitely agree. We will be recommending to friends and family.
Owner's reply: Thank you Lesley for all your kind words. We are really pleased that you both felt totally at home and relaxed at Les Chauprenades. It was good to meet you both and we look forward to welcoming you back.
We stayed at Les Chauprenades for a week in early June and loved every minute. Brian and Hilary felt like old friends by the time we got there as their friendly and helpful emails in the weeks before our hols meant we were totally at home from the moment we arrived. From the welcome basket full of goodies like local wine, pastries, butter, milk and fresh bread to the pre-ordered cheese and meat platter and fruit tart that were waiting for us the first evening, everything you could need is there. The property is in a beautiful setting with a fab terrace that gets the sun all day and is so well kitted out that we would have stayed another week if we'd had the chance! Bergerac is 12 mins away by car and Monbazillac is around 5 mins and with so many beautiful places to visit in the surrounding area, there is something different for every day. On those nights when we had walked as far as our feet could go and driven for miles around the French countryside exploring Chateaux and medieval towns, the gite was the perfect place to come back to. We sat on the terrace with a cold glass of Bergerac wine and a bowl of pistachios most evenings until the sun went down and then when we reluctantly had to retire indoors we took advantage of the huge selection of films and books available. The 'Brian taxi' -arranged beforehand to take us to and from our Michelin dinner treat - was a great little extra and meant we could have a night off from the car! We also benefitted from Brian and Hilary's local knowledge, introducing us to a canoeing company and recommending local markets, restaurants and places to see. We would thoroughly recommend Les Chauprenades, in fact we already have done since coming home! We have such lovely memories of our little 'palace' - it really did make our holiday so easy and relaxing to be so well-catered for. We hope to be back again the next time we head down to the Dordogne
Owner's reply: Thank you Kate and Darren for your lovely comments. It was a pleasure to help with your holiday plans. It is great to hear how much you enjoyed what we do here, and that you loved the local area. We look forward to welcoming you back when you come to France again.
“Beautiful gite in wonderfully peaceful Dordogne countryside”
Beautiful gite that has been so thoughtfully designed and equipped. Brian and Hilary (and not forgetting Lily the dog) made us feel extremely welcome and at ease from the moment we arrived. Wonderful welcome hamper to greet us with some lovely local wine cooling in the fridge - just what was needed on a hot August day! The gite had everything you could wish for which made our stay so relaxing, just a shame it was only for one week. Location was also excellent, in a lovely peaceful rural setting with views across the hills but also close enought to some great villages and towns perfect for trips to market and for dinner in the evening. Proximity to Bergerac airport is also a plus.
Owner's reply: Thank you Sandra & Ian for your kind comments. We are so pleased that you enjoyed Les Chauprenades and the local area. We look forward to welcoming you back for a longer stay next time.
“Peaceful location with excellent facilities and stunning views”
This was our first joint trip to France and what a fantastic place we chose. Just south of Bergerac, Les Chauprenades is set in a very peaceful rural location surrounded by open fields and vineyards. The property is well equipped with everything you could ever need on a self catering holiday. It is finished to a very high standard particularly the walk in shower which was great after a long hot day on the bike. There is ample space at the property both inside and out. There are 2 separate courtyard areas to relax in one of which as a hot tub. The views of an evening from the rear patio are superb even better from the hot tub with a glass of your choice. As hosts Hillary & Brian could not be faulted, they made us feel most welcome and were always on hand with information regarding places to visit in the local area and beyond and tales about the French way of life. On arrival we were greeted with a hamper containing a variety of French produce and a fantastic meal prepared freshly that day by Hillary. Both my wife and i are keen cyclists, this is a perfect location to explore the Bergerac region by bike. There are plenty of small Bastide towns close by that can be easily reached along quiet country lanes. The terrain is undulating but in the main there are no big hills or long climbs, even the Col D Monbazillac isn't too bad and you can always stop at the Chateaux for a coffee on the way up. We dined out at Tour Du Vents one lunchtime. This is a Michelin starred restaurant that is only a short 10 minute drive away. The food was excellent and the view across to Bergerac was fantastic. well worth a visit, great value for money.

“A wonderful gite in a peaceful location”
As with the other reviewers I have no hesitation in giving this gite 6/6. It must be the best equipped gite we have ever stayed in and Brian and Hilary are great hosts, their main concern simply being that you have a great holiday, which we did.

We stayed a week, but wished for longer. This beautiful house was so charming and comfortable, and so well equipped, a real home from home. The owners were helpful and friendly. They made this one of our best holidays ever.
