The location is picturesque, situated in wine country, surrounded by vineyards and sunflower fields in the village of Ribagnac, a few kilometers from the famous wine village of Monbazillac. A peaceful and tranquil retreat with the convenience of Bergerac airport just 15 mins away.

Originally a barn, set within the grounds of our home, approximately 50 meters from the main house. The two properties have completely different outlooks, ensuring total privacy for guests. The gite gardens, terrace, courtyard and spa pool are for the exclusive use of our guests. The property is over 200 years old and believed to have been the home of the estate manager of the neighbouring Chateau Bridoire estate, which is a popular tourist attraction today.

The gardens are planted with herbs, flowers, shrubs and many trees, such as plum, pear, cherry, apple, mirabelle, figs, almonds and hazelnuts. Guests are welcome to help themselves.

The trees provide cool shade for hot days and there are beautiful views over the surrounding vineyards. The famous wine village of Monbazillac can be seen from the terrace.

Night skies are unpolluted and provide a spectacular show of stars and planets. There is a telescope for keen stargazers.

We welcome guests all year round whether summer visitors, out of season weekenders or house hunters looking for a base to find a place of their own. Longer lets considered.

Location description from owner

The Dordogne region

Ribagnac is a small quiet village set amongst some of the most beautiful scenery in the Dordogne. The village is known for the fairytale Chateaux de Bridoire, which has been recently restored, and is a very popular visitor attraction.

The charming historic old town of Bergerac is well worth a visit and only 15 minutes away. You will find many traditional and modern shops, a busy market, restaurants, cafes, and not forgetting the statue of the famous Cyrano.

The local markets are legendry, vibrant and colourful. They are a firm favourite with visitors and locals. There are weekly markets throughout the year in Bergerac, Issigeac, Villereal, and Eymet. In July and August the very popular night markets are held in Issigeac and Monbazillac.

Monbazillac

This is wine country! We are surrounded by the vineyards of Bergerac and Monbazillac

The neighbouring village of Monbazillac, famous for its dessert wine is a few kilometres away. The beautiful chateaux and gardens have stunning views over Bergerac. Many cultural events are held there throughout the year.

The chateaux of Lanquais, Biron, Les Milandes and Cadouin are a short drive away.

Route de Vin

We are situated within the Bergerac wine region in the middle of the Route de Vin. Other local wine areas include Saussignac, Monbazillac, Pecharmant and Montravel. You can follow the Route des Vins and visit the local vineyards as you go.

“Beautiful gite in wonderfully peaceful Dordogne countryside”

Reviewed 16 Sep 2016

Beautiful gite that has been so thoughtfully designed and equipped. Brian and Hilary (and not forgetting Lily the dog) made us feel extremely welcome and at ease from the moment we arrived. Wonderful welcome hamper to greet us with some lovely local wine cooling in the fridge - just what was needed on a hot August day! The gite had everything you could wish for which made our stay so relaxing, just a shame it was only for one week. Location was also excellent, in a lovely peaceful rural setting with views across the hills but also close enought to some great villages and towns perfect for trips to market and for dinner in the evening. Proximity to Bergerac airport is also a plus.

Owner's reply: Thank you Sandra & Ian for your kind comments. We are so pleased that you enjoyed Les Chauprenades and the local area. We look forward to welcoming you back for a longer stay next time.

“Peaceful location with excellent facilities and stunning views”

Reviewed 16 Sep 2016

This was our first joint trip to France and what a fantastic place we chose. Just south of Bergerac, Les Chauprenades is set in a very peaceful rural location surrounded by open fields and vineyards. The property is well equipped with everything you could ever need on a self catering holiday. It is finished to a very high standard particularly the walk in shower which was great after a long hot day on the bike. There is ample space at the property both inside and out. There are 2 separate courtyard areas to relax in one of which as a hot tub. The views of an evening from the rear patio are superb even better from the hot tub with a glass of your choice. As hosts Hillary & Brian could not be faulted, they made us feel most welcome and were always on hand with information regarding places to visit in the local area and beyond and tales about the French way of life. On arrival we were greeted with a hamper containing a variety of French produce and a fantastic meal prepared freshly that day by Hillary. Both my wife and i are keen cyclists, this is a perfect location to explore the Bergerac region by bike. There are plenty of small Bastide towns close by that can be easily reached along quiet country lanes. The terrain is undulating but in the main there are no big hills or long climbs, even the Col D Monbazillac isn't too bad and you can always stop at the Chateaux for a coffee on the way up. We dined out at Tour Du Vents one lunchtime. This is a Michelin starred restaurant that is only a short 10 minute drive away. The food was excellent and the view across to Bergerac was fantastic. well worth a visit, great value for money.

Owner's reply: Thank you Ian and Julie for writing a review and for all your kind comments. We are really pleased that you loved Les Chauprenades so much. We have enjoyed sharing it. We hope that you will come back and stay with us again.

“A wonderful gite in a peaceful location”

As with the other reviewers I have no hesitation in giving this gite 6/6. It must be the best equipped gite we have ever stayed in and Brian and Hilary are great hosts, their main concern simply being that you have a great holiday, which we did.

Owner's reply: Thank you Martin & Catherine for taking the time to write your review. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us and had everything you needed to make your holiday perfect. We hope that you will come and see us again.
