Description

Gerddi-Duon Farm pronounced 'Gerthy - Duon', is a grade 2 listed long house made of sandstone and is situated on the Gwysaney Estate which is steeped in history. The family of Davies-Cooke and the Estate have a history that dates back to Rhodri Mawr and the Welsh Princes.

On your visit you will observe history and character from a bygone era. The farmhouse interior having beams, tiled/wood floors, log burners (3 in all), an aga to cook upon and warm furnishings to make your stay memorable.

There has been a homestead here at Gerddi-Duon since the 15th century. Parts of the existing building were built in the middle of the 18th century. The later additions to the house were put on prior to 1841, when the house was a coaching inn.

The Hare and Hound, as it was known, served as a coaching Inn to the travelers passing the door on their way out of Mold to Denbigh on the main road (A541). In those days any overnight visitors slept in the loft on hay!

Before Gerddi-Duon was a pub or coaching inn, one of its occupiers was a livestock rustler, and twice went up in front of the Earl of Chester.

For the larger party two 'put-me-up' beds are available to be used in the larger of the two lounges. One lounge can seat 8 and the other 7 in comfortable furnishings.

Cooking is with a four oven AGA, there are three log burners, these can be laid and lit daily by separate arrangement so you come back to a warm home.
