Location description from owner

The Tuscany region

The Tuscan Region of Italy is well known for its warm balmy summers, beautiful countryside, rolling hills, mouth - watering food, and of course its towns and villages, rich with mediaeval architecture

The Garfagnana region of Tuscany, often known as its Green Lung is situated away from the milling crowds that can often be found at the most famous Tuscan locations and is totally unspoilt, remaining untouched by tourism. The scenery is spectacular, green and mountainous with views of both the Apuane and Appenine mountains at every turnAnd, due to the altitude whilst the weather can be very hot, it is always pleasantly cool for sleeping

The food is usually home made, using home grown produce, and is typically simple and extremely tasty. Prices here remain very reasonable due to the fact that food is prepared with the locals, and not tourists in mindThe local wine is cheap and surprisingly drinkable! The pace of life is slow and peaceful spend your days enjoying secluded picnics, swimming in rivers, or watching locals play bocce or cheese throwing. Visit hundreds of ancient hill top villages, or relax at home basking in stunning scenery.

For townie days, visit the mediaeval towns of Barga, Lucca, Castelnuovo, with Pisa and Florence within easy reach tooThis is Olde Worlde Italy.

Molazzana

The medieval mountain village of Molazzana, has a general store, church, village square, café, traditional baker, pizzeria and restaurant. The town of Gallicano is found at the bottom of a picturesque road (4km) and has all facilities including shops, bars, restaurants, swimming pool (open air in summer), banks, hypermarket and train station on the main Pisa/Lucca to Aulla line. The well known hilltop town of Barga is 10km away.

Lucca is only 38km away and Pisa is a 1 hour drive, Florence 1 ½ hours and the famous beaches of Versilia - Forte de Marmi and Viareggio - are just over an hour away as is the excellent ski resort of Abetone.

“Beautiful views and tranquil setting”

Reviewed 9 Oct 2014

Accommodation was comfortable and in a superb location. Swimming pool was well maintained and had lovely views and it was nice to have a private terrace for eating and a small BBQ.
