Location description from owner

The Andalucia region

The Costa de Almeria region
The Costa de Almeria is a region of unique beauty and has until recently been southern Spains undiscovered gem. The long golden sands of Mojacar Playa is just one of the reasons this area has become a top destination for Spanish and British holidaymakers. The landmark hilltop village of Mojacar Pueblo, with its distinctive houses, labyrinth of narrow streets and Bohemian character is another major attraction.

A vibrant mix of residential and holiday complexes, golf courses and unchanged towns and villages stretch out along the coastline; the port of Garrucha, with its renowned seafood restaurants, and the impressive harbour of Almerimar, are all must-sees.

Mojacar

The long uncrowded sandy beaches are one of its main attractions and among the best in Almeria. The beaches are 14km long, with a large part being designated an area of natural beauty. Only 7 km have been developed and they consistently earn European Blue Flag awards for cleanliness.

The beach resort has been developed over the past two decades, it is now a lively resort with much to offer with beach bars, local and international restaurants, discos, hotels and shops. The resort enforces a building restriction to prevent it becoming a high rise concrete development; residential buildings are restricted to two storeys and hotels can't be built higher than four floors. Giving you a feeling of space that cannot be found anywhere else along the eastern Spanish coastline.

Mojácar Pueblo is a picturesque sight of whitewashed buildings and steep and winding, cobbled streets. Perched high on a hill in the Sierra Cabrera it overlooks the Mediterranean Sea. It was a centre of trade for the Phoenicians, Greeks and Romans but the Moorish influence dating from the 8th Century, is most visible.

The place is a melting pot of cultures, indeed, it is said to have proportionately one of the most international blend of people in Spain. It is also a haven to people with an interest in the arts, many writers, painters and photographers have made Mojácar their home. Moreover, it is a very popular tourist destination thanks to its unique charm, relaxed atmosphere and warm hospitality.

There are variety of interesting boutiques and shops to tempt you or why not relax and have a beer or two in the many excellent bars and street cafes. Every Wednesday is market day and the streets are home to numerous stalls selling essentials to the locals.

Garrucha is a beautiful and lively fishing town that still retains much of its original charm. Over the last few years it has become a popular tourist destination. Its tourist slogan is “Garrucha, Sun and Seafood”; the town is famous for the quality of its large red prawns, only fished in the local waters. Garrucha has a strong fishing industry, its main source of income, with a large port for both commercial and leisure pursuits.

Garrucha has a great selection of restaurants and bars with many excellent seafood restaurants found along the seafront serving the fresh catch of the day. They are supplied with fresh fish from nearby port, if you find yourself down on the seafront at dawn you will experience the typically Mediterranean sight of a flotilla of small fishing boats setting out to sea. Later the fishermen host a daily fish auction each afternoon at a quayside fish market.

For those interested in wildlife and in that we mean flora and fauna, not a heavy night hitting the bars – you’ll find a lot to enjoy without going very far, in fact, the region includes some of the most unique and varied wild life habitats in the whole of western Europe. The Cabo de Gata Natural Park and The Sierra Alhamilla Mountains are interesting and rewarding areas for the wild life enthusiast; over half of the 8000 species of plants native to Spain are common in Andalucia, including 150 species which are unique to the region. Many of the plants that are indigenous to Andalucia grow only in the arid areas of Andalucia.

As well as year round activities such as golf, diving and horse riding, during the summer months there are a wide range of organized activities, live music, flamenco, quiz nights, volley ball competitions and village fiestas. As in most Mediterranean countries, children are welcome just about every where. For younger children, there are many playgrounds dotted along the beach as well as organized activity groups supervised by professional nannies. For older children the Pueblo Indalo Complex is popular for its table games, discos and evening shows, all ages will enjoy Mojacar mini golf, Garrucha go - cart track, The Sorbas caves, and Tabernas theme parks. The Aqua Park at Vera approx 8km away is an excellent funfilled day for children and adults alike.

For those looking for an active holiday there is much to do. There is a full range of watersports including jet ski-ing, canoeing, water ski-ing, sailing, big game fishing, windsurfing, kitesurfing and scuba diving. If you have a head for heights why not take a flight in a microlight over the beach at the Indalo Wings Microlight Centre or try your hand at paragliding.

Also in the winter months there is skiing and snowboarding available in the Sierra Nevada mountains, situated just 2 hours drive from the beach.

“A little piece of paradise”

Reviewed 20 Sep 2016

Can't put into words how beautiful this place is. Family of 6 with kids from age 2-9 all of us have enjoyed the holiday. Perfectly located for all your needs. Friendly residents and locals. Basically if your looking for a nice place to stay then choose this place. Can't find one fault. Will definitely be back in the future :)

Thank you Rebecca. I am delighted you enjoyed your stay and i would love to welcome you back any time. Noel

“Great location but 2 bedrooms quite small”

Reviewed 12 Sep 2016

Situated on the front. Great sea views. Nice pool. Booked for 6 adults but apartment made up only for 4 people. Extra beds were very tight fit so no room on either side to walk round. Maybe that's why they left them for us to make up. Kitchen needs some extra utensils eg we had to go out and buy a cafetiere. Upstairs bathroom had a drain smell. No window and no fan. It was clean but some work was needed on the drain. Good car park, wifi and very close to lots of good restaurants and bars. Would recommend with these caveats.

Hi John. Thank you for the review. My apologies for the beds not been made up. My property manager should have all beds dressed and ready for you. I will follow up on that. i will also look into the utensils issue but i stayed for 2 weeks myself at the beginning of August and we bought extra cutlery, delph and a cafetiere. I am glad you enjoyed your stay and i would like to thank you for your comments. I am continually trying to ensure guests have a nice stay and any improvements suggested can only assist me with that. Hope to have you back again. Noel

“Beautiful property, superb location.”

Reviewed 29 Jan 2013

Mu husband, 3 children and I spent 2 fantastic weeks in Mojacar last July. The house was beautiful, it had every thing we needed. The kitchen was very well equipped and the house was beautifully furnished with top quality bed linen. The air conditioning throughout the house was much needed and appreciated. The front terrace had a retractable canopy where we ate each morning, pure heaven!! However, the location of this house was the major winner for us - it is elevated so there is no noise from traffic, there is an elevator up and down to street level and is only 2 minute walk from the sea! We enjoyed some great restaurants nearby so we rarely used our car (except to go to the Aqua Park, great for the kids!!) Great free family entertainment and shows in the Indalo complex next door. Thanks to Paul who met us, gave us the keys and showed us around, great service. Would highly recommend, we will be back!! Marie

Thank you Mario. Glad you enjoyed the stay. Noel
