Location description from owner

The Grand Casablanca Region

Casablanca is a city in western Morocco, located on the Atlantic Ocean. Casablanca is Spanish for 'White House' and transliterated in standard Arabic as Dar al-Bayda or Moroccan Arabic as Dar Bayda.

Casablanca is home to the Hassan II Mosque, designed by the French architect Michel Pinseau. It is situated on a promontory looking out to the Atlantic. Its minaret is the world's tallest at 210 metres. There is room for 25,000 worshippers. A further 80,000 can be accommodated in the mosque's courtyard.

The Parc de la Ligue Arabe (formally called Lyautey) is the city's largest public park. On its edge is situated the Cathedrale du Sacré Coeur, which is disused, but is a splendid example of Mauresque architecture.

The 45 meters high El Hank lighthouse (built in 1905 and renovated between 1914 et 1917)The Old Medina (the part of town pre-dating the French protectorate) attracts fewer tourists than the medinas of other Moroccan towns, such as Fes and Marrakech. However, it has undergone some restoration in recent years. Included in this project have been the western walls of the medina, its skala, or bastion, and its colonial-period clock tower.

Rabat is the second biggest city after Casablanca. It is famous for its many historical monuments, luxurious carpets and rich embroidered goods. A good thing about Rabat is that the city centre of Rabat being very compact, all the points of interest are in walking distance. Rabat's Archeological Museum is probably the most important in Morocco. It hosts an exceptional collection of roman-era bronzes. Descriptions are in French and the museum guide will also be glad to give you a tour in French.

Explore Morocco’s natural scenery; Lac Sidi Boughaba Parc is just 13 miles north of Rabat’s city center. Lac Sidi Boughaba Parc is a beautiful biological reserve home to a wealth of fauna and flora. At the reserve you can enjoy hiking while exploring the wildlife. During your stay, make time for the famous Merdja Zerga (Blue Lagoon) National Park. It is surrounded by a handful of small villages that live off of agriculture and fishing.

To get a local’s perspective on the area, stop by one of these villages on your way to the park – many of the local fishermen will take tourists out in their boats for a reasonable fee. Known for its numerous flamingo colonies, this park is another bird watcher’s paradise. Look for herons, spoonbills, storks and even the rare African marsh owl.

Mohammedia

Mohammedia is a seaside resort on the West Atlantic coast of Morocco. It is known as the ‘madinate lwouroude wa riyada’; which means city of flowers and sports. Mohammedia is very popular due to a relaxed atmosphere and great beaches such as Santa Monica, Les Sablettes, Mannesman, La Siesta.

Mohammedia is conveniently situated 15 miles (24 km) north-east of Casablanca which makes it a very nice base and a gentle alternative compared to Casablanca.

With excellent and convenient train services to and from Mohamedia operating to all the focal locations; which include Mohamed V International Airport, Casablanca, Rabat, Oujda, Meknes, Fez and Marrakesh, Mohammedia makes a central, well located base for travellers requiring a base on extended vacations.

The Medina is vibrant and colourful section of the city. The colourful buildings with narrow lanes inter-twining between them will transport you back in time.

The Kasbah extends from Souss Street to the Al-Wafaa subdivision. It represents the historical heart of the city and has marked a transitional compromise between an urbanism of modern buildings and monuments, and the forms of ancient old Medina. Many commercials and services exist along the narrow streets of the Kasbah and the boulevards of the surrounding area, such as clothing merchants, wool merchants and fruit sellers. During the summer season, the Kasbah wall is lined with the artisan crafts market.

The east side of the city is famous for its beaches and the port area are bordered with wide roads and promenades. The sea and the coast are well maintained and clean; deep-sea fishing facilities are available. The Cap Mohammedia lighthouse stands on a headland close to the harbour.

Enjoy an evening stroll along La Corniche by the beach, stop for a drink in one of the beach front cafes.
The Mohammedia Royal Golf Club is very popular with tourists as it is fitted with the best of golfing facilities.

Diving, Fishing, Golf, Hiking, Surfing, Sur Mohammédia is also a resort city containing a golf and tennis club, casino and many other activities.
