Hillend Guest Cottage is a detached byre conversion in an exclusive elevated rural location with uninterrupted views across to Moffat Water and the Southern Upland Way. Your only neighbours being the owners who live a short distance away and the popular small town of Moffat is just one mile away.
The nearby A708 is rated as a dream drive road taking in the Grey Mares Tail waterfall and St Mary’s Loch with their stunning scenery, the area being famously frequented by Robert Burns and his good friend Sir Walter Scott.
Hillend Guest Cottage provides a warm, friendly and interesting environment in which to relax and reflect on your day's travels whilst in the evening taking advantage of Moffat receiving international recognition as the first 'Dark Sky Town' in Europe in 2016 due to the quality of spectacular stargazing.
The suite has easy steps with hand rails to the entrance, two conservatory lounges, one with a large sofa, dining table & chairs, wide screen digital TV, DVD player, games etc. and views across to the south and west. The second conservatory has a sofa bed which can be pulled out to provide extra sleeping, there is a cd player, books, brochures and it is ideal as a quiet room with views across the gardens and surrounding fields to the north and east. Please note: due to steps etc the cottage is not suitable for young children.

Hillend Guest Cottage is a detached self catering suite located a short distance from the owners cottage but far enough away for privacy, just one mile from Moffat and is ideally located for access to central Scotland, Gretna etc. being only 3 miles from the M74 motorway, 35minutes from Gretna Green and an hour from both Glasgow and Edinburgh. We are uniquely placed for a walking, climbing or touring holiday of Scotland and we provide parking at the front of our cottage nearer the guest cottage. Moffat offers many venues to relax and enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner in pleasant surroundings where you will receive a warm welcome.
1 Mile to Moffat shops/restaurants/pubs/amenities and the famous Moffat Toffee Shop, 7 miles to the Grey Mares Tail waterfall, 15 Miles to the Kagyu Samye Ling Tibetan Buddist Centre, 22.5 Miles to Dumfries.
The historical city of Glasgow is a must for those who like shopping and some say the home of Scottish football.
Edinburgh, Scotland's capital is where you will find the dominating Edinburgh Castle, winner of the top UK attraction and you can visit the famous Edinburgh Tattoo as well as Dolly The Sheep (among other historical pieces) at the Museum of Scotland and stroll the historical streets and attractions along the Royal Mile. You can also visit the UK's only Panda's, the beautiful Yang Guang & Tian Tian at Edinburgh Zoo.
And why not visit and play some of the challenging golf courses around the area.

“Great, relaxing break in ideal location for dog walking”
Stayed for 2 weeks, Ruth & Martin were very welcoming, checking when they saw me that everything was ok (it was!). Hillend is in a great location just outside Moffat and a great base for exploring the local area. Plenty of local information and maps are provided which were really useful as I was eager to explore with my 2 dogs - in 2 weeks we only repeated 1 walk twice and that was just because St Mary’s Loch is so beautiful! Thank you Ruth & Martin, a great start to my time here.

Situated a mile East of Moffat, on the scenic Selkirk Road, this attractive holiday cottage has its own sizeable garden and affords spectacular views of Fells rising from Moffat Dale. It is South facing and catches every hour of sunshine. Inside, it is very well equipped, comfortable, and provides a large election of touring, walking and climbing information. As a hillwalker, I found it's location an excellent starting point for climbs close to the English Border, Ettrick Forest and Annandale. The Southern Uplands Way and Annandale Way both pass close by. The proprietors were most welcoming no helpful, which added to,the enjoyment of my week's stay.

“Perfect in every way”
We arrived at hill end with a broken car , Martin and Ruth did everything they could to sister us with the repair of our car so it was not a major stress or worry meaning we still had a fab and relaxing holiday , in the most perfect setting with our dogs , The guest suit is well kitted out and comfortable with the most spectacular views. This was our second stay here thankyou once again for a lovely stay

A warm welcome, a great location and very cosy. Hillend Guest Suite has everything you need for a pleasant and comfortable stay in a lovely part of the world. Particularly liked the boldness of the birds tapping on the conservatory living room window. We would stay again as there are more walks to be done in the Tweedsmuir Mountains down the road.

“Perfect peace and quiet”
We were looking for a quiet base to explore southern Scotland. The Hillend cottage was perfect. The owners were helpful if you needed them, bur left you alone if you wanted peace and quiet. Everything we needed was there, lovely views, comfortable bed and sitting room, kitchen fine for two, good bathroom. We couldn't think of any improvements, although it can be loud if it rains heavily! Highly recommended.
“A Wonderful Stay.”
We recently went back to stay at the newly extended Hillend Guestsuite and had a wonderful stay. Ruth and Martin are great hosts and are always on hand if you need anything. The guestsuite has everything you need and is surrounded by beautiful countryside views. Moffat town centre is just down the road and has plenty of shops/cafes and has a great museum to visit. We will be returning to Hillend Guestsuite and would recommend staying there.

The area is peaceful, restful and scenic. The countryside is beautiful; A wonderful panoramic view of the valley. In addition, to finding ones roots, it is a perfect place to heal, recover and rest. The host support is warm, friendly and active. Ruth and Martin are attentive to guests needs. They go the extra mile to make guests feel welcome and comfortable. For example, they invite guests to local cultural events, such as stage plays. We stayed at the Hillside Cottage for a month. The price was fair. The quaint little cottage is comfortable and spacious for a couple or small family. It has a simple and useful layout. The kitchen is organized and equipped with handy support items and supplies. The bedroom is comfortable. The bed provides a good nights rest. The conservatories provide a panoramic view of the valley. Also, they are comfortable and useful. The yard and landscaping are well laid out and maintained. If one misses their pets from home, no problem, the hosts' dogs will be glad to come by each day for a doggie treat. Hillend guest suite is a very cosy, well appointed place to stay in Moffat. I was not blessed with good weather during my stay, but the cottage was always warm and welcoming. The furniture was good quality, and very comfortable, and everything you could need was provided.The views from here are stunning, from every window! Ruth and Martin are very good hosts, who seem to genuinely care about their guests.I enjoyed a very relaxing week, and would recommend it to anyone.
“A perfect escape from it all”
I came to Hillend Guest Suite mainly because it was a very reasonable price and was within easy drive of Edinburgh. When I got there I realised it was so much more than that. Whenever it was dry my dog and I headed into the hills and had several wonderful long walks (including ones along the southern upland way), all within close walking distance. Then when the heaven opened with the many storms that happened this week, we snuggled into our beautiful wee cottage. It was absolutely perfect. Everything I needed was there; but the wonderful owners, Ruth and Martin, made it very clear that if I needed anything I need only call. It was beautifully clean, and always warm. Settled on the sofa in the conservatory with my sleeping dog at my feet I could look out at the driving sleet and feel totally content. After what has been a very difficult year finishing a masters degree alongside serious family illness, this was exactly the break I needed. Thank you Ruth and Martin for being so warm and welcoming, while giving me the space I needed. And my dog absolutely loved his holiday, particularly playing with Martin and Ruth's dog Ellie!
