“New Forest Cottage”

Reviewed 29 Dec 2016

A perfect little cottage for 4 adults and 2 kids to spend Christmas. The cottage was comfortable and clean and looks even better in real life than it does in the pictures. The kids loved the games room and we spent many an afternoon doing puzzles by the fire. Hockey's farm shop was fabulous at the end of the road and we were just a hop skip and a jump from the Royal Oak and the Alice Lisle which was a nice ramble through the new forest. We saw ponies and deer and cows. Perfect.

Dear Holly So pleased you enjoyed Christmas at Newtown Cottage, and thank you for your comments. Wishing you all the best for 2017. Kind regards Johanne and Tim

“Overall we enjoyed our stay, but there were a few issues.”

The Good: Really lovely location in the new forest, amongst wild life and nice and quiet. The garden is very pretty and well kept. The beds in the bedrooms upstairs are very comfortable and we slept well whilst at the cottage, the bedrooms in general are well decorated and equipped. The cottage has lots of character and is a good place to go with a larger group of family or friends. The bad: For the first day/night/morning of our stay we didn't have any hot water. The owner did come out and arranged for someone to fix it the next day. However we felt that some form of compensation should be offered. When I asked the owner about this she didn't respond. The downstairs area of the cottage in our opinion could do with some TLC. The kitchen is a bit outdated, sofa covers were a bit stained in places, paint was peeling in the bathroom and the windows in the property could do with some renovation. The children's room over the garage was very messy particularly inside the cupboards, toys all over the place. The table football table is very wobbly and feels like it is going to break. If the owner had been more responsive regarding the hot water then we would consider staying here again.

Disappointed to receive this guest review, as she has been given £100 compensation for the trouble with the boiler. My husband was with the guest within 30 minutes of receiving their call, and after he could not fix it, and engineer was with them by 10am the next morning, which was a Bank Holiday Saturday. It was fixed within an hour by the engineer. We do ask guest to keep the toys tidy in the play room, as I have spent many many many hours tidying up after other people's children. Sadly people do not respect this request and it is simply not possible to tidy the play cupboards within the 5 hours allowed for a turnaround at this busy rental time. The football table was not wobbly - this is first time we have heard this, so I will investigate it at the weekend.

“Lovely Cottage, would definitely come back.”

We had a fantastic time at the cottage. The location is amazing, with the very neat garden opening into the New Forest national Park. There is a nice pub by the lake which you can reach walking. The cottage was very clean and well equipped, with wi-fi and a games room. The owner was helpful and easy to reach when needed. Would most certainly recommend!

“Dream Cottage”

Reviewed 24 Oct 2014

We stayed at Newtown Cottage for 11 days. I'm going to sit on the fence on this one and state that the Cottage was nothing short of FANTASTIC. It has the feeling of a true home with all the amenities you could want. Tastefully decorated and spotless throughout. The location is awesome, right next to the brilliance of the the New Forest. We loved every day of our stay and even on the days that Noah would feel at home, the Cottage was so comfy, so warm that it felt that it was a big cuddle wrapped up in brick. Many thanks Jo- PS: the only slight problem was the wifi- not brilliant-

“A great place to stay especially at Christmas”

Reviewed 5 Jan 2014

Cottage was excellent and good value. The Xmas tree and lights round the open fire place were a nice and welcoming touch by the owners. Great place to stay - warm and cosy. Plenty of space and great playroom over the garage. Good communication with the owners and speedy return of security deposit. Lots to do within easy reach of the cottage.

“A perfect break”

Reviewed 23 Oct 2013

We stayed at the cottage for the first time in mid October and found it to be all we could ask for. We booked the same day as we arrived due to being let down by another property and we found booking arrangments and the welcome provided by the owner really helpful. With a group of six we were very comfortable and found all the rooms to be spacious with good storage space. The cottage location was ideal with delightful walks from the back garden gate and it was well placed to explore the New Forrest area . The seperate play area for the grandchildren was a real bonus. We had not visitd the New Forrest before and after visting the many local tourist attractions it was lovely to come back to the warmth of a log fire in a cottage with everything you needed . We are looking forward to our next stay already .

“Charming, romantic well equipped house offering everything you need.”

Reviewed 29 Sep 2013

We returned for the second time (after 2011) to this lovely romantic cottage, because we (family of four) already enjoyed our first relaxing visit very much: We didn't regret it a single minute. Well and delightful and charming furnished rooms, that offer evrything you need, especially the kitchen. All the amentities and electric devices are easy to handle- even for tourists from the continent - so we and the kids enjoyed the tranquillity, the ponies trotting by the garden fence, the little rabbits and birds in the garden and the magic surroundings. The newly arranged garden gives you enough space for games with the kids, picnics or even quiet sunbathes. Or just open the garden backdoor and immmediately find yourselves in the farn and heather of new forest. The rooms are lovingly decorated and individually arranged, what we really appreciated. Enough space for everybody to retire and enjoy a good book or short nap. Beautyful views from the windows. Everything was very clean, we can't complain. Only one suggestion: There should be a larger van in the en suite bathroom, which makes it dry faster. Great place to make daily excursions even to places a bit further away i.e. Jurassic coast, Winchester or Chichester. The pubs beeing recommended by the management are worth a walk. In case there should be any questions during your stay the management responds very fast and friendly. Thanks to them again. To summarize it: We enjoyed it and definitely intend to come back.

“Lovely situation - very comfortable”

Reviewed 14 Jun 2013

A super situation, tucked out of the way with direct access to the New Forest from the back gate, Some quirks, as to be expected in a property originally built in the 18thC, particularly the staircase, though the owner has said she will provide a stair-gate for young children. Very comfortable beds, but not much room in the en-suite shower room! A great games room for the children.

“Perfect Cottage Experience”

Reviewed 19 Nov 2012

My friends and I spent 2 nights here during November 2012 and really enjoyed our stay. Great location not far from major towns although Ringwood has all you really need. Everything was great about the actual cottage. Great information about the area left for us to look over, everything was super clean and cosy. Mattresses/pillows/duvets were like heaven! We spent a far bit of time exploring the area. Just down the drive there is a massive field where horses graze. The horses must be used to people. They were very interested in getting up close and personal. Woke up one morning to a cow blocking the exit gate and it was quite the experience to encourage him further down the road. Make sure you head south to the water. We spent 1/2 a day in Bournemouth which was fantastic. Lovely views and a great coastal atmosphere. Locals were all very lovely and more than happy to recommend places to see/go. A great weekend getaway with none of us wanting to leave at the end of our stay!

“Awesome family friendly cottage”

Reviewed 29 May 2012

Very nice peaceful cottage in a great location. Perfect for a family with kids. The kids loved the games room and having the garden to play around in. Shops and attractions are easily accessible. We had a splendid time there shame the holiday had to end.
