Location description from owner

The Lasithi Prefecture region

Sfaka in north east Crete is a mountainous region surrounded by olive groves and only ten minutes drive from the sea. Crete has a good all year round climate with July and August the hottest months. There are many Minoan and Venetian archaeological sites nearby as well as a Byzantine monastery with frescoes. Around the area of Sfaka are numerous circular walks. It is also eagle country and these magnificent birds can often be seen from the property....so bird watching should be on the agenda. No night time village lighting to interfere with star gazing too. Many interests abound!

Mochlos

Weekly outdoor markets in Sitia, Agios Nikolaos and Irepetra towns .Jeep safaris, sailing and canoeing available, Easter is the highlight of the Greek calendar and various festivals take place throughout the year. Mochlos, a nearby fishing village has many tavernas to choose from which are situated around the sea and has live music twice a week. Many day trips from visiting Elounda which is famous for the island of Spinalonga just off it's coast which was the last leper colony in Europe, to Tertsa with it's turquoise waters, Kato Zakros with a palace dating back to Minonian times and fish tavernas around it's bay, Kritsa for shopping and many other destinatins close by.

“Awsome, wonderful, peaceful and idyllic, what more can we add????”

Reviewed 28 Sep 2012

Annie and Pete too lovely people and wonderful hosts. The villa is beautiful, immaculately clean, well equipped and comfortable. The location and surrounding scenery are breath taking. The village of Sfaka is a very short walk away and has a supermarket and several tavernas within the village. The local population are friendly and the tavernas reasonably priced with good food. Mochlos and the beach is a 10 minute drive away and has great tavernas on the sea shore, it is a very picturesque place. The villa is ideally located for Sitea, Ag. Nic and getting to the south coast. We will definitely be returning and can't wait.

We are so delighted that guests bother to write a review and say that they enjoyed their stay here and in this area so much. More to the point, they would like to return. What more could we ask for?!!!

“A Review to show how much a teenager can type if she really loves the thing she's typing about”

Reviewed 1 Sep 2011

It's easy to write this review because I have been given so many fabulous things to write about. I'm just not sure if i can fit them all in. So for anyone who is wondering where to take a holiday I'll make the decision easy for you, go here. And that is my honest opinion. I'll admit it, I'm usually very picky about holidays (although i'd never admit it to my mother) but this exceeded to my expectations of what was possible on a normal family holiday. Usually it's a mix between arguing and homesickness that occurs amist the excitement of a new location . But at Azure Heights there comes a sudden realisation of how pointless being occupied by all that is. Your too relaxed for any of it, even the occasional rants your father usually gives you seem to not occur at all. The lack of surrounding stresses means your free to spend the first few days wondering how you even discovered that a place like this exsists. Everything is made so easy. You arrive and all post-airport stress disipates (even if you had to go through the metal detector three times because of nail scissors in your hand luggage). Your shown to your clean, spacey rooms by two of the nicest people i have ever met. The people are just as lovely as the place that they designed. Annie and Pete are there when you need them. They keep your privacy and don't impose but give you everything you could ever ask for from hosts. There if you need any questions answered, a yoga class or even a needle to poke out the pines of a sea anemony that you accidently stood on. By the end of the week i felt like i'd known them all my life. Plus your surroundings, they are so beautiful. If to shrug of your sheets and look out at the mountains isn't enough for you then there's some great places to get out to. We especailly loved Tolos beach. It provided a beach, bright cyststal blue seas (the type of blue you see on "A Place In The Sun") and a taverna literally 2 minutes away right on the beach, this place is Cretes best kept secret (although me blabbing about it kinda stops it from being so secretive). Mocholos was lovely for its food at the tavernas with the best cheese omelets i've ever had. Sfaka was only down the road and was great for a walk around. But i can mention all the far off places in the world and they aren't as "aww" inspiring as the animals. That terrible joke was to say they are very cute. They are the best company you could ever have. Harry, Poppy, Dixie and the gorgeous cat Alfie are not to be left out of this review because they made the holiday. I looked forward to their visits to our rooms as the checked how we were getting on and got to know their characters. Loneliness is not an option with these guys. They are like 3 new best mates. I miss them terribly, especially Harry who tried to be a lapdog everytime he found me sitting on the floor. I long to return to this place and the british weather just makes that longing stronger so I'm sure i will return. Much love to Azure Heights. xxx

This review is so charming we are at a loss at how to respond. So special to hear that a teenager found so many sweet and lovely things to say about virtually everything. Although we are off the beaten track as it were, there is much here to offer all age groups which is fundamental and especially where teens are concerned, it is reassuring to parents to know that they didn't pick the wrong spot!

“most relaxing week ever”

Reviewed 12 Jun 2011

Annie & Peter have wonderful villa in a beautiful area. They are very welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. It was great to relax round the pool with nothing to worry about and very little noise distraction. They have dogs who are very friendly and big softies! Would definitely recommend this for a stay. You won't beat it!

Our priority is to help make our guests feel 'at home'. We would like them to leave with the thought of wanting to return....sooner than later. As well as having the place to relax and unwind, the pool to dip into, there are several places of interest in the area, which can be explored at leisure....thus adding another dimension to their holiday.

“An amazing find - beautiful apartment, wonderful location and great hosts”

Reviewed 30 May 2011

I would whole heartedly recommend this lovely apartment. We hired it for about 10 days last year and had the most incredible trip. Coming from London, we were looking for a bit of peace and quiet, some culture and some good beaches. We werent disappointed. The apartment is spotlessly clean, beautifully furnished with a huge amount of outdoor space, and a gorgeous pool. We often ate dinner on the balcony looking out at the stars... Very peaceful location but a short walk or drive to teh nearest shops, and a very easy drive from Heraklion. All in all - excellent value for money. Pete and Annie were wonderful hosts, and made us very welcome. Eastern Crete is also lovely - very unspoilt with lots to do - great beaches, lovely towns and lots of opportunities to see archaeological sites too. We also did a "safari" drive with a very knowledgeable guide, which Annie helped us to arrange - great opportunity to see some of the incredible landscapes and wildlife that crete has to offer. We will certainly be going back!

Our location is noted for it's tranquility and peace. A place to just 'chill out' and enjoy the sounds of nature and have the feeling of really being away from it all. There are the trappings of a sociable scene nearby, so it offers the best of both worlds.

“wonderful place from which to explore the beauty and less touristy Crete”

Reviewed 21 May 2011

The suite was lovely and the hosts were kind and helpful to the utmost. Gorgeous view and perfect "home" to explore by car the beautiful and less touristy side of Crete.

We are delighted with the comments, as this is one of the factors we like to hi-light about our area....'the less touristy side of Crete' A beautiful part of the island, which is still unspoilt by commercialism and one can feel the essence of being in Greece. Our aim too is to help make our guests feel at 'home', relaxed and wanting to return.
