The Dalmatia region

Gea Accommodation is located in the centre of Župa Dubrovačka, a picturesque area of many small villages settled around an expansive, mesmerizing bay. A quick run down the stairs from us will bring you to the heart of Mlini, a charming seaside village with lovely pebble beaches, small cafes and traditional taverns serving local specialties, souvenir shops, a small marina and a water-polo field where, every July and August, exciting games take place as part of The Wild League, amateur water-polo competition authentic to Dubrovnik. Very exciting to watch and cheer!

The name Mlini translates to ‘mills’ from Croatian, and refers to a time in history when numerous mills operated around here, providing flour to the mighty Dubrovnik Republic. Some of the creeks and brooks which powered the mills exist still today; one in the very centre of Mlini, creating an oasis of cool during the warm summer days. Nearby, the Chapel of St. Roch and the Church of St. Hilarius from 1449 deliver meditative peace amidst the bustling summer atmosphere.

Nestled on the very edge of the coast, Mlini just lure you into enjoying the Adriatic to the fullest. Pristine pebble beaches continue from Mlini all along Župa Dubrovačka bay, one more beautiful than the other, inviting both adults and children to sunbathe, swim, snorkel and simply enjoy. A beautiful seaside promenade, in the shade of pine trees, runs along the beaches all the way around the bay, from Srebreno (village before Mlini) to Beterina, a small beach right after Mlini. Along the way, the first eco-park in the area, as well as several kids playgrounds, make Mlini a super experience for the whole family.

Charming, vibrant and very relaxing, Mlini is one of those places which simply absorb you into their ambiance, making sure you slow down just enough to enjoy every minute of being here.

Mlini

Lounging on a beach may be very tempting when here, but richness and beauty of the surrounding region make that decision a hard one. Despite the fact it is situated on a narrow strip of land and somewhat isolated from the rest of the country, Dubrovnik and its region are incredibly diverse, yet relatively small, making it possible to see many different places in just one vacation. Islands, peninsulas, villages, hills, culture, history, gastronomy, traditions - you name it. Finally, Dubrovnik is the last Croatian town before the borders with Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina, both reachable within 90 minutes.

The islands around Dubrovnik are really interesting for their cultural and historic heritage, unspoiled nature and beautiful beaches. The Elaphite islands, north of Dubrovnik, can be reached by regular ferry line which runs several times a day, but can also be visited on numerous organized tours, cruises and pick-nick boats. Three most popular Elaphites include Koločep, Lopud and Šipan, each very unique, but with an equally intense charm. Koločep will amuse you with its interesting shipbuilding history, pre-Romanesque churches and large pristine areas. In distant history, Lopud was the centre of the Elaphites and still holds some of that importance in its identity. The beach Šunj on Lopud island is famous as the only “true” sandy beach in this part of the coast! And Šipan, the largest of the three, features innumerable secluded bays, cliffs, a large field in the middle of the island and some great seafood restaurants.

Further from the Elaphites, Mljet island, a national park and the greenest Croatian island, is a great place for nature lovers. It is connected daily to Dubrovnik by fast line Nona Ana, departing from Gruž harbour. Korčula island is further north, at the tip of Pelješac peninsula. The island was inhibited already in the prehistoric period, and by Illyrians, Greeks, Romans and Venetians since, all leaving vivid traces. The town of Korčula, the island main destination, is a Venetian city with winding streets and beautiful stone architecture. Korčula is connected by ferry to both Dubrovnik and Orebić on Pelješac peninsula and can be combined with Pelješac into a day excursion. As both are famous for their wines, Korčula for its white Pošip and Pelješac for its red Plavac Mali, that's very often the theme for visiting the area.

And for a complete contrast to Dubrovnik, neighbouring Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro bring two cultures to choose from. A trip to the Old Town Kotor in Montenegro, the last Venetian town on the Adriatic, or to the Old Town Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with its UNESCO protected Old Bridge and distinct Eastern character, provide a nice change and a positive contrast to Dubrovnik.

Enjoy this region to its fullest, and don't worry - beaches are everywhere!
