The people of Bramberg celebrate and nurture their visitors with superb hospitality, enjoying with them local traditions, with the aim of making them feel utterly comfortable and at home. A holiday at Haus Kammern is all about replenishing your zest for life: eating, drinking, having fun, seeing the sun, breathing the clear air, walking up a mountain, skiing down a deserted piste, or biking alongside the river.

In summer you are spoilt by opportunity with everything ranging from a gentle walk to the next village, a game of golf, a bike ride, coffee and cake in the café, all the way up to serious mountain biking, paragliding or high-peak touring.

In Winter the area becomes a wonderland of snow and Haus Kammern is on the doorstep of two great ski areas. Three minutes by ski-bus or car towards the town of Mittersill is the modern Panoramabahn gondola which gives direct access to the Kitzbühel Alps with over 170km of well-groomed pistes and lots of off-piste opportunities. Skiing in this region is great for all ages and abilities as the region offers more than 65 modern ski lifts and 84 snow cannons to ensure fine conditions.

A short distance in the opposite direction brings you to the local town of Bramberg and the brand new Smaragdbahn gondola (visible in the distance from the Haus). Bramberg forms part of the Wildkogel Ski Arena and is at the foot of the Europe's longest toboggan run. This area offers superb family friendly skiing with over 55km of pistes and an excellent ski school for beginners.

Location description from owner

The Salzburg Region

Haus Kammern is at the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park - the largest and most stunning area in the Alps with 3,000 peaks and 8 skiing areas. In the National Park, both in summer and winter, there is always something going on from a mix of traditional hiking, guided excursions with National Park Rangers, bike tours, high-peaks tours, Alpine Wellness, Nordic walking and of course Skiing, allowing everyone to find something perfect for them. For our smaller guests an enjoyable children’s program in the Wildkogel holiday area hosted by mascot Kogel-Mogel promises all sorts of action and fun.

The area is known for its nature and wildlife allowing you to get up close to the world of Alpine animals and plants. There are red deer and golden eagles; watch marmots play in the meadows and as the snow arrives see the landscape transformed into a winter wonderland with mountain hares and snow grouse; if you are lucky maybe you will catch sight of a chamois or ibex climbing a steep rock face.

Haus Kammern is surrounded by traditional villages offering endless opportunities for sightseeing and adventure but further afield (just 30 minutes by car) is the glitzy town of Kitzbuhel with its classy shops, casino, top-class hotels, superb restaurants, and world-famous Hahnenkamm downhill race. Also 30 minutes away is the traditional Austrian town of Zell am See on the banks of a beautiful lake – why not take afternoon tea in the Grand Hotel overlooking the lake and watch the world go by. If you wish to experience the delights of summer skiing then head for the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier at Kaprun (again 30 minutes away) and relax afterwards in the brand new Spa Centre in Kaprun village.

A holiday here can be complemented with a visit to the regional capital of Salzburg (1 hours 30 minutes) with its wonderful Castle, Cathedral, Mozart’s birthplace, museums, and Mirabell Gardens.

Haus Kammern is located in the beautiful Austrian village of Dorf im Pinzgau at the heart of the upper Pinzgau region close to the Salzach River in the Salzburg Province of Austria. The Dorf area is known for its fabulous food and regional products including prize-winning Pinzgauer beef, cheese, honey, and apples.

Dorf is a peaceful and relaxing village with many traditional houses and two working farms. This charming village dates back to the Bronze Age and is surrounded by mountains and picturesque countryside with forests, Alpine lakes and rivers. The Romans made use of a trail through the village from Salzach Valley to Mühlbach Valley and over the Stangenjoch to North Tyrol. The pretty Dorf Chapel was built in 1696 and inside you will find the sculpture of Saint Wilgefortis. Dorf is just a few kilometres from the larger villages of Bramberg and Mittersill.

The ski-bus stops a short walk from the house to take you into the Wildkogel ski area via the brand new gondola in the nearby village of Bramberg. Alternatievley you can take a 3-minute ride on the ski bus in the opposite direction to the Panoramabahn gondola which will quickly whisk you up the mountain into the vast Kitzbühel ski region. You can ski all the way to Kitzbühel for lunch in about 2 hours! Both gondola stations have lots of free parking.

The bustling and pretty village of Bramberg is known as ‘the emerald village’ and is the local centre with a good selection of shops, supermarkets, restaurants, and a weekly market. Bramberg dates back to the 10th century and as well as being steeped in history its local Habachtal Valley is renowned for having Europe’s only emerald deposits which were mined from the 17th century until the 20th century. Visit Bramberg Museum to find out more or to find out about the Emerald Trail. Bramberg really looks after its visitors seriously with numerous music/beer/harvest festivals so visit The Tourist Office there to find out what’s going on.

Beyond Bramberg at the head of the valley are the world-famous Krimml Waterfalls which cascade down spectacularly from the Hohe Tauern! You can take the local Pinzgaubahn train to Krimml (stops in the village) or drive (20 minutes) or cycle alongside the Salzach river for a memorable trip.

In the opposite direction is the town of Mittersill which offers more serious shopping possibilities, a large supermarket (the Merkur) and a wide range of restaurants – you must try the local produce in the Meilinger Tavern in the centre of town. A little further away (but just 30 minutes by car) are the famous towns of Kitzbühel and Zell am See.

Also on your doorstep on either side of Dorf are the pretty villages of Hollersbach (with its outdoor natural swimming lake, eco-gardens, small supermarket, and delicious bakery/coffee shop) and Muhlbach with its lovely outdoor swimming pool surrounded by the mountains (only 10mins walk).

The list of activities on your doorstep is endless and include: Alpine skiing, downhill skiing, walking, high-peak touring, biking, golf, para-gliding, archery, museums, spa-centres, horse-riding, and swimming. Or simply relax and enjoy the views from the veranda!

“Superb alpine holiday chalet with all home comforts.”

Reviewed 23 Feb 2016

We have stayed at Haus Kammern four times now both in Summer and Winter. This is the very best of holiday accommodation. It's modern with every technical amenity, good central heating and a wood burner. The instruction manual is very comprehensive. You don't have to be a down hill skier to enjoy the location. It's great for cross country skiing too. The skis can be hired at nearby Wald. There are several good supermarkets in the area. The proprietors Avril and John are extremely helpful. I thoroughly recommend Haus Kammern and we hope to stay there again.

Owner's reply: Thanks for a lovely review. We look forward to welcoming you back soon!

“Wonderful chalet - great location”

Reviewed 24 Aug 2015

This was a super chalet and one of the best self catering holidays we have had. The rooms were extremely comfortable and the added bonus of books, games and DVDs kept everyone entertained. We thoroughly enjoyed sitting out on the balcony and appreciating the fantastic views. The location of the chalet was also excellent. Walking into the mountains was easy, but there were also a number of wonderful places to visit that were not too far away - Zee am See, Kitzbuhel and the Krimml waterfalls were great places to visit. We would recommend this chalet.

“Amazing family skiing!!”

Reviewed 5 May 2015

For a first time family skiing holiday Haus Kammern was a perfect location and stunning property to go home to after a great days skiing. The Wildkogel-Arena ski area was a perfect area for the family providing good beginner runs to challenging red/black runs. The two main gondola lifts are Bramberg (5 minute drive) and Neukirchen (10 minute drive) both with great facilities at the top. The family are now hooked and can’t wait to come back to such a stunning location and beautiful Haus.

“Cosy Chalet”

Reviewed 18 Jan 2015

Haus Kammern is a holiday home with a lot of comfort. It is very tastefully decorated und we felt very comfortable. We stayed one week in Haus Kammern; four adults and two kids. The three bedrooms in the first floor and the two bathrooms were ideal for us. On ground floor there is a spacious dining and living room with kitchen. Equipment of the house, space and comfort is excellent. Lots of lovely little things made it very special (DVDs, CDs, etc.). We found it ideally located for the ski slopes, and not far from the longest toboggan run in Europe. We had great holidays in Haus Kammern and will definitely come back.

“Awe-inspiring and refreshing family holiday”

Reviewed 18 Aug 2014

Our first family trip to Austria in August 2014 and we were not disappointed. The chalet itself is beautiful with plenty of space and it has a lovely welcoming homely feel. The views from the balcony are amazing! The owners Avril and John really have thought of everything to make the chalet comfortable for their guests. They made the trip so easy with lots of information and great communication before we started our holiday. The chalet was only two and half hours drive from Munich Airport and provided a great opportunity to take in the grandeur of the mountains on the way in to the stunning Austrian chalet. Haus Kammern is perfectly located to take advantage of the breath taking scenery that the region has to offer. There are so many local attractions which are a short drive away including the majestic Krimml Waterfalls, the Emerald Trail and access to ski lifts to the top of the mountains only 5 minutes drive away! The stunning lakeside town of Zell am See is only 30 minute away and a little further (just over 2 hours) is the historic and beautiful Salzburg - a must if you have seen the Sound of Music!! More locally (5 minutes walk) is Mulbach where there is a bakery and great place to get something to eat and drink called the Batzinger. There is also an outdoor swimming pool with a cafe and restaurant attached with the most picturesque backdrop of the mountains. The restaurants in Mittersil and Bramberg were reasonably priced with very good food with large portions! We have fallen in love with Haus Kammern, the beautiful mountains and surrounding area and would love to return in the summer or winter to try the skiing here! Overall a really beautiful and convenient place to stay, we had a fantastic holiday and there was lots to do. Highly recommended! Thank you Avril and John!

“A beautiful house in a wonderful location.”

Reviewed 17 Aug 2014

We have recently returned from Haus Kammern and want to go back!! Myself, husband and children (12 and 10) thought it was the most beautiful place we have ever stayed. Gorgeous furnishings, warm and comfortable with everything we needed for the week. Lovely cosy beds, two stunning bathrooms and modern kitchen. Can't wait to return here!

“Simply Outstanding”

Reviewed 11 Jan 2014

After a very tiring trip from England to Austria by car, we arrived at night to a simply perfect Haus. The decor was elegant and warm with furnishings that were comfortable and so very welcome after a hard day on the slopes. There was every utensil, pot, pan, cup and glassware you could need and a gorgeous wood burner to snuggle up to after a lovely dinner. The views were absolutely stunning and the shops were a five minute drive away. The restaurants were reasonably priced with very tasty food in areas such a Mittersill, Bramberg am Wildkogel, and Zell am See. As for the skiing, it is perfect for families, whether you are first timers or more experienced. Avril and John made the trip so easy with there condensed info in their welcome pack, and their informative emails before we started our holiday. We cannot wait to return as we have fallen in love with Dorf, the surrounding area and the beautiful mountains for some brilliant skiing! Highly recommended!

“A pleasant summer stay in Haus Kammern”

Reviewed 20 Oct 2013

We enjoyed our stay at Haus Kammern in July 2013. The owner of the chalet was very reliable and well organised and the arrangements all went well. In addition she sent us a lot of useful information about the area and more information was available in the chalet. The chalet was beautiful, spacious, very clean and well equipped. There was plenty of good quality china, cutlery, utensils etc. The beds were comfortable. The parking space was convenient and large enough for two cars. There were lots of walks and interesting places to visit in the area. The impressive Krimml waterfalls, Zell am See and Kaprun were half an hour away by car. Salzburg, Innsbruck and the Grossglockner were easily within reach for a day trip. There is a local train and bus service up and down the Salzach valley. In addition there are some buses or “taxis” which run a certain way up the side valleys on the south side of the valley. These enable walkers to get higher up more quickly. On the north side of the valley there are cable cars, including the Panoramabahn and the Wildkogelbahn, which give access to the mountains. Shops were also easily available, under 5 minutes by car and 10 minutes walking, as were swimming pools, bike hire and restaurants.
