The Andalucia region
The area has an all year round season with average winter temperatures of about 18 degress C, July and August being the hottest months. April - June and September - Novemeber being the most comfortable months which are particulary popular with the scandinavians.
Málaga, capital of the province, is 36 kms away. You can reach it by car or by train from Fuengirola. With over twenty museums, fifteen of them grouped together in the same area, Málaga has become a true City of Museums. With the incorporation of new projects (Wine Museum, Heritage Museum, Fine Arts Museum and the Holy Week Museum), its Historical Quarter alone will have as many as twenty-three museum facilities, making Malaga one of the cities with the highest density of museums in its Historical Quarter. While enjoying the museums, look at the architecture around you, and be aware of the bustling life in the tapas bars as the malagueños enjoy life.
Gibraltar, a 3/4 of an hour away by car (coach trips available) gives you tax free shopping, the famous monkeys and the Napoleonic and WWII tunnels. Don't forget your passports.
Granada, with the Alhambra Palace and, during the winter season with the skiing resort of Sierra Nevada, is just 1 1/2 hour away drive. Do not forget to visit la Catedral, Capilla Real, Monasterio de la Cartuja, Monasterio de San Jerónimo, Parque de las Ciencias, as well as the museums and gardens around the city. But above all, if there is something that makes the visitors fall in love with the city, it is its corners. Take this information into account. It would be a pity if you come back home having missed the beauties of the city.
Cordoba, about 2 hours drive, offers you a wide range of museums and historical sites to visit, being The Mezquita (the Mosque) the most famous. Do not forget a visit to the Courtyards, open from the 2nd to the 13th of May, which will give you a taste of the private life in the Cordoba's houses.
Seville, Andalucía’s main city, is at 2 1/2 hours drive. There are places so full of beauty and history; with so much to unveil to the traveler that, at first sight, they might appear immense. Seville is one of those privileged places a magical city, cultural melting pot, with an unbeatable showcase of art displayed in its monuments and sites; the non-stop atmosphere of a fair in its streets and squares; the warmth of its friendly people…Halfway between passion and innovation; feeling and tradition. The wealth of its offer, with a multitude of things to see and experience, turn a mere walk around the city into an endless chain of new sensations. Allow yourself to discover Seville.
If you are a beach people, you must visit the beaches of Cadiz. Almost un-spoilt, long sandy beaches, lay along all the Cadiz' coast line, with Tarifa and their windsurfers the better known.
Whichever type of holiday you want, lazy or cultural, there's so much to enjoy in our beautiful country of Spain!
Cross de road from the complex you can find Las Terrazas Shopping Centre., which offers a minimarket, ATM cash withdraw machines, newsagent, hardware store and the Bar Oro. A good selection of restaurants offers traditional Spanish food as well as English, Italian, Argentinean and Indian. Don't miss the Internet Connect Cafe, the Lounge Bar or the El Rincón de la Boca restaurant.
Further down the hill, alongside the N-340 coast road you will find a huge collection of restaurants, bars, supermarkets and other shops at the Riviera Plaza Centre, offering all you need for your stay in the Costa del Sol. Check out David or George’s Bar near the OpenCor supermarket or look out to the sea, relaxing at Max Beach Bar Terrace.
Mijas Costa, has a variety of things to do and see, safe clean beaches all within a short drive away.
Less than 15 minutes away, is the vibrant bustling town of Fuengirola with bars, shops and a beautiful beach. It has a zoo, a water park and a multi shopping complex which includes cinemas (with films in Spanish and in English), restaurants and many small shops but also a vast supermarket. Out in the town centre there are many, many shops for you to browse. At the port of Fuengirola boats can be taken to Benalmadena at nominal cost. Trips for sea fishing and dolphin watching can also be booked at this port. The night life in Fuengirola consists of discos, bingo, karaoke bars, etc.
There's an 18 hole Golf course and Golfing Academy with a driving range and a nice bar which does all day breakfast, just 10 minutes walk from the complex.
The Aztec Centre, at 6 minutes walk, offers you Tennis Courts, Badminton Courts, mini golf, gymnasium, beauty salon, hairdresser and physiotherapist, which are open to non residents. The Aztec Centre provides evening entertainment for all ages. There's also a newly constructed internet centre and game's room for all ages.
La Cala is a lovely small village along the coast road, only 2 kms away. There you can do horse riding or go karting, but it has lovely beaches and café-restaurants.
Mijas, a traditional white washed village, 20 minutes by car, has many art and craft shops with stunning views of the surrounding coast and country side.
A regular feature of Spanish life are the Carnival (Fiestas) that go on during the year in Mijas, Fuengirola and La Cala; for example ladies and gentlemen dressing traditional Andalucian costumes and riding Spanish horses for the annual Patron Saint of Mijas, San Anton.
There are several weekly markets in the area, the largest being Tuesday in Fuengirola, Wednesday in La Cala and Friday in Arroyo de la Miel (Benalmadena).
There are four golf Courses in the area: El Chaparral, Santana (both in La Cala), Los Lagos and Miraflores.
The horse racing season in the Hipodromo, which has two tracks with floodlighting for night racing and a grand stand accommodating 5000 spectators, take place between October and May.
There is few fun parks scattered around the area, as well as a dolphinarium near the Paloma Park in Benalmadena, where animals roam free. This park is ideal to take a picnic.

The complex lies between Fuengirola (10 minutes drive) and Marbella (10 minutes drive) in Riviera del Sol.
A taxi rank and bus stop are nearby, offer easy access to Marbella, Puerto Banus, Fuengirola and Benalmadena and Malaga airport.
- Other distances: Granada (1:15 hour’s drive), Seville (2:15 hour’s drive), Cordoba (2:00 hour’s drive)
5/10 minutes walk from one of the nicest beaches in the area, shower on beach available when you have finished your sunbathing:-).There are beach bars and restaurants on the beach for a bite to eat for lunch or dinner.
The costa del sol has something for everybody, golfers paradise, ports in Malaga, Marbella and lovely port and beach Cabopino, where EL DORADO was filmed here, where there are dozens of lovely restaurants and bars (about 20 minutes walk in the direction of Marbella). There are waterparks, zoos, go carts, watersports and boat trips for the kids.
There are bars galore in the El Zoco complex, just 10/15 minutes walk away in Calahonda, and loads of restaurants on the strip a further 5 minutes from calahonda just up from the roundabout Sitio de Calahonda just behind El Zoco.
I f you prefer a relax why not take a 5 minute car ride way and go to Cala Mijas, a lovely village with loads of restaurants and bars and take a stroll up the pleasant beach.
Fuengirola is probably a similar distance to Marbella which I prefer for the beach restaurants and laid back atmosphere.

"Tranquil. A little peace of heaven."
A fantastic review has already been posted, We love this place and planned our journey back within days of getting home. A bright clean and safe environment to relax, with only a 5-10 minute walk to the lovely quiet beach. Can't wait to return in October x

"lovley, clean and quiet appartment."
We've just returned from our first holiday together in 7 years , we found the apartment by browsing the net and we can honestly say that this holiday was just perfect in every way! The owner of the apartment was in constant contact with my partner about payment and the collection of keys and when we arrived was also as attentive (but in no way overly so) checking that everything was in working order and to our satisfaction. The apartment is well equipped extremely clean, quiet & modern and literally a 5 second walk to the lovely daily cleaned swimming pool with a garden ( it's a ground floor apartment ). The area itself is well equipped with a selection of bars & restaurants and also a supermarket, the one inside and down the escalators is the one with a greater selection and also a lot cheaper. We got a taxi from Malaga airport which cost no more than €60 , when in Mijas Costa we visited Marbella and Fuengirola these were by far the the best places for authentic Spanish tapas, having said that Malaga also came highly rated but we managed not to get there. The weather was amazing if you bear in mind you can see Africa from the beach which is also a 5 min walk from the apartment this gives you some idea of how hot it is. So the question I guess is would we go again?...... We've provisionally booked two weeks this morning In September / October - less than 24 hrs of being back In the U.K. we want to be back ! My advise is book this well equipped apartment if you want a hassle free but quiet central location with a host that will bend over backwards to accommodate you and any questions you may have ! Enjoy WE DID!! Thanks to Alistair Done
