Description

Courtyard Cottage is a Grade 2 listed Georgian town house in the picturesque Cornish fishing village of Mevagissey. Dating back to 1830, this 3 storey property has recently been renovated to a high standard from top to bottom, benefiting from a well equipped kitchen, modern bathrooms and double glazing whilst retaining many original character features including wooden floors, granite fireplace and low ceilings in some places as you would expect in a property of this age. Situated 200 metres from the harbour and just 20 metres from the car park, Courtyard Cottage is perfect for families to explore the region with beaches, cliff-top walks and the Lost Gardens of Heligan only minutes away. Perfectly located in the village, the cottage is just a short level walk to the restaurants and pubs in the narrow cobbled streets, but far out enough from the hustle and bustle to be quieter at night. Split over 3 levels, you will find that you have plenty of space to relax and watch the world go by.

Location description from owner

The England region

The South West of Cornwall has a wide variety of attractions to explore. With it's mild climate Cornwall is home to many gardens and National Trust properties. The Eden Project and the Tall Ships Harbour in Charlestown are both within 10 miles of Mevagissey and Truro with its magnificent cathedral and numerous shops is 20 miles away. Fowey, Gorran Haven and the Roseland Penninsula are also popular local destinations. Walk along rugged coastal paths or long sandy beaches, Cornwall has something for everyone, young or old.

Mevagissey

Mevagissey has numerous restaurants and family friendly pubs, often hosting live music. Being small, Mevagissey has escaped the commercialisation of other Cornish seaside destinations and has a selection of interesting independent shops. Having made its wealth from pilchard fishing, Mevagissey once had 9 butchers shops. With its double harbour, Mevagissey is one of only a few working fishing villages left in Cornwall and you can take a pleasure cruise or try mackerel fishing whilst enjoying the glorious views of the Cornish coastline where you may catch a glimpse of seals, dolphins or basking sharks. There is a model railway and free museum within the village along with an activity centre which has a variety of activities. There is also a local scuba-diving club and the Pentewan cycle trail has lots of level stretches through the woods following the river. Towards the end of June Mevagissey celebrates Feast Week, a week of family fun, music, and floral dances through the streets. There is a small beach in the harbour and Portmellon and Pentewan beaches nearby. New Year's Eve is not to be missed as all the locals are in fancy dress so don't forget your outfit to see in the New Year.

“Lovely 3 storey house with everything you require for a fab holiday”

Reviewed 30 Oct 2016

We stayed for week, 7 in our group including 2 teenagers. The 2 Xboxes and loads of dvds kept them happy on an evening. Loads of room in the kitchen which is fully equipped, lots of comfy seating in the living room, the place has very comfortable beds. Although near the car park it is very quiet in the property. John and Kate provide a welcome pack which is very. I hope appreciated after a long journey, other helpful items are also provided. The treasure hunt for the kids and flowers were a thoughtful touch. We will be back as we couldn't fault the place at all. Lovely walking around Mevagissey with fab places to eat and drink, 4 minutes walk from the harbour. John and Kate have thought of everything you require so you can just turn up and relax from the off x

“Convenient large cottage in Idillic Mevagissey”

Reviewed 3 Aug 2015

Good size, spotless, well equipped cottage for large family group. Stair gates made it safe for small children. Big dining table all could enjoy eating around. Comfy large sitting room. In Mevagissey so convenient to walk around quaint fishing harbour town with good quality independent shops. Good choice of restaurants & pubs - all friendly with good food. Short drive to various lovely beaches. Car parking opposite cottage with 1 free permit very helpful.

“Perfect !!! Everything you could wish for on a relaxing holiday in one package”

Reviewed 21 Jul 2015

We were 4 ladies on holiday in Cornwall and couldn't have chosen a better place to stay. From the start both John & Kate were extremely helpful with suggestions of where to go and what to see. The cottage was excellent with everything you could possibly need for a special relaxing holiday, lots of thoughtful, added extra throughout the whole place, plenty of space, the 2 bathrooms, one on each floor was a godsend..... The village Mevagissey is just beautiful, the people so friendly and our cottage was so close to everything. Parking was close and easy thanks to the permits John obtained for us. We ate at most of the venues there ( well we were on holiday- so who wanted to cook) & all were fantastic. We would definitely recommend this property to everyone

“Lovely cottage, highly recommended!”

Reviewed 22 Jun 2015

We stayed as a small family of 4 due to 2 of the family unable to stay. We absolutely rattled round in the place it's that big. The communication from John and Kate prior to travelling was excellent and covered everything we needed to know. Fresh flowers and milk tea and coffee were a nice touch. A mini treasure hunt for our granddaughter was a fun start where 3 items suitable for her were hidden around the property. The whole cottage is supremely well thought out with everything you may need for a self catered holiday to hand. The kitchen has everything you will need with high quality cooker, washer, fridge and freezer etc. Massive table for the family to dine together. Spotlessly clean throughout. Extremely spacious which is unusual for a harbour town like Mevagissey. Ideally located just a 2 minute stroll to the harbour and shops. The living area on the second floor is very comfortable with lots of seating space and a large television. Also numerous Dvd's and books. We personally found the travel cot and high chair very useful and appreciated the stair gates for our granddaughters safety. Car parking literally 20 yards away which is really handy when carrying lots of luggage. Having an extra bathroom is a bonus which came in very useful. Cannot fault this cottage in any way and would recommend it to anyone thinking of visiting. We will definitely be looking to book again for next summer as it's a real gem.

“Fantastic cottage in a beautiful location”

Reviewed 1 Jun 2015

Couldn't fault the cottage - the owners were lovely - they were so helpful leading up to the stay, eg providing extra chairs for us to add booster seats for our toddlers. We were a group of 8 adults and 3 under 3s. They also put on a little treasure hunt for the kids on our arrival. The lounge was plenty big enough for us all, and all the toys. There was an extensive DVD and game collection for us to use. The whole cottage has recently been renovated and was spotless. The car park is a stones throw away and our car was easily visible from the bedroom. There were always spaces, even in half term. The cottage is a 30 second walk into the very centre of Mevagissey - which includes takeaways and Chippies as well as some lovely nik nak shops. We had a great meal in the sharks fun restaurant overlooking the harbour. Overall - we'd recommend the cottage to anyone and hope to be back sometime!

“Great property in a great location”

Reviewed 14 Sep 2014

This property is lovely and in an ideal location. Our family of 5 had plenty of space and everything we needed to make our week's stay thoroughly enjoyable. The kitchen / dining area on the ground floor is very well equipped and can comfortably seat 8. The lounge on the first floor had enough DVDs to while away the day if the weather was bad and if that wasn't enough there was always the board games or X-box ! The bedrooms are all well equipped and the beds very comfortable. Everything was spotlessly clean on our arrival and there was plenty of information in the house to help us plan our time in the area. The property is ideally located in Mevagissey - a few minutes away from the harbour and all the shops / restaurants / pubs - perfect as it is far enough away to be pretty quiet but an easy walk after a night out ! Parking is just across the road so again incredibly easy to pack and unpack. Our only comment would be that the doors are a bit smaller than some of our party so most of us did knock our heads a couple of times - it is an old property so the stairs are a bit tight and doors/ floors not perfectly even but that just adds to the character. Communication with the owners was quick and easy and nothing was too much trouble - thanks for a lovely stay and we hope to come back sometime soon !

“In a great location a lovely clean and spacious cottage with every need catered for.”

Reviewed 25 Aug 2014

What a lovely cottage set in a great location just a couple of minutes from the harbour. Courtyard cottage is clean, spacious and comfortable and well equipped with everyone's tastes and needs catered for. Fresh milk was provided on arrival and we thought the fresh flowers were a nice touch. The Xboxes are an added bonus and great idea together with the extensive range of dvds especially if the weather is bad (although we had a good week). We would have no hesitation in booking Courtyard cottage again if we were going back to Mevagissey and would highly recommend the cottage to friends and family.

“Everything you need in a home from home”

Reviewed 9 Jul 2014

All mod cons, comfy beds, extremely comfy couches in living room, everything you need to come home to after a day on the beaches! TV's in nearly all the rooms meant all different members of our extended group were able to have some quiet time and then the large well appointed kitchen was an excellent place for family dinners and evening games. Mevagissey itself has lots to offer especially in feast week, as our visit was, and even though this was our second time we still felt like there was lots to explore in the village and the surrounding area. One tip, low ceilings on the stairs meant several banged heads even though John told us to watch out for them! Highly recommended.

“Just wonderful!”

Reviewed 18 Jun 2014

An excellent place to stay. Most convenient for all that Mevagissey has to offer for all ages. A gentle walk to everywhere. Parking most convenient. Very well equipped and presented in all ways. John and Kate have provided an outstanding house for holidays. Everything has been thought of and plenty of indoor activities for all ages. The treasure hunt was a wonderful extra which our grandchildren loved - the mugs were well used and the dolphins cuddled a great deal. Lovely idea of their names framed also. There was even a bottle of bubbly for our 40th wedding anniversary. Very generous hosts!! A place to return to.

My group and I loved our stay at Courtyard Cottage. The owner has been lovely and easy to contact. The house was spotless and well-equipped. In a great location, just moments from the town. The perfect holiday home to get away from it all!
