The Messenia Region
Messinia region is famous for its olive oil and of course for the olives 8 (Kalamata olives). But except from the food, it has many things to offer to its visitors. It compines the beautiful sandy beaches along with the small original villages, archeological sites ( Nestor Palace, archeological museum of Chora, ancient town of Messinia, local museum in Gialova, etc), castles (Niokastro castle located in Pylos, Methoni castle, old town of Kyparissia etc), protected areas with a large variety of birds (Gialova Lagoon and Gargalianoi area), small fishing villages (for example Marathopoli), traditional villages in the mountains (f.e. Gargalianoi, Chora etc) along with many activities. The area of Marathopoli and Proti island is perfect for fishing and diving. It has golf courses, in Marathopoli port and in Pylos port you can bring your boat. Also the area is perfect for cycling and hiking. Lagkouvardos beach is perfect for surfing, xrysi akti is ideal for wind surfing and there are many beaches offering extreme sports. But if you want to relax in an unexplored beach you can find a lot of them too.
Except from the olives and the oil you must definitely try it's local cuisine among with it's traditional products. But don't forget to try the local wines and liqueurs too!
During the Spring, the weather is good, mostly sunny and warm. The summer is warm with a 35 degrees most of the time. But the best time to visit is during autumn, where the water is still hot, there is not too much hot and not too crowded.
Dialiskari is located in the county of Messinia. There are many things to see around the area, but the nearest are the following. Approximately 1.2 km from the houses, there is the town of Marathos. Marathoupoli is a seaside town, also known as the old port. In Marathoupoli a visitor will find many cafes, restaurants, fish taverns with fresh fish, bakeries, supermarkets, gas stations, pharmacies and bars. At a distance of 1 nautical mile from the beach, there is the island called Proti, which has clean waters and you can see the ruins of the Mycenaean acropolis ruins or preclassical era, and also ancient signs of post-classical, Roman and Byzantine periods. In about 6 km further, you will find the town of Gargalianoi, located in the mountains. In Gargalianoi, you must visit the temple of Panagia, which was founded during the 17 century and its construction completed in the early 18th century.
At a distance of 5km a visitor can find the sanatial springs of Vromoneri. Just 4km away there is Lagouvardos beach, which is ideal for water-sports and windsurfing, and it is located in the North of Dialiskari. In the southern area, 4km away there is the Golden Beach (Chrisi Akti) which has also a beach bar and not far away, there is the famous area of Romanos with its famous beach. Furthermore, not very far away, there is the well-known beach in the area, Voidokoilia beach, and close enough you will also find the ruins of Nestoras' Palace, as well as the ancient burials Traganas. All these areas are located approximately 8 km from Dialiskari. An area of great interest is the Natura wetland in the lagoon of Gialova, with its small seaside village and its beach. Gialova Lagoon is the biggest wetland in the Valkans and has a great variety of birds (265 species) and the unique population, in Europe, of the African chameleon. Another must see of the area is Polilimnio Waterfalls just 40minutes away. And finally, two towns that you should visit are the town of Pylos and Old town of Kyparissia.
