The Rhône-Alpes region

Snow sure from December to end of April, Méribel is central to the whole of The Three valleys, which now also includes a 4th Valley, Orelle, adjacent to Val Thorens. Les Trois Vallées is the largest linked ski area in the world with over 600kms of well groomed pistes and over 200 linked lifts. Two board parks are easy to access where many competitions take place. After years of skiing here we never get tired and still find new places.

There are many activities in the area ranging from the extreme sports of river rafting, mountain biking & canyoning, rock climbing etc. Or take lovely long walks through the woods or to remote mountain refuges.

Meribel - Les Allues is linked by gondola and free shuttle bus to the centre of Méribel and is in the heart of the epic Les Trois Vallées ski domain, with 600kms of linked pistes and over 1,400km of terrain on which to ski. This is the largest ski area in the world that is accessed by a single pass. The scale of the place sometimes defies comprehension. The 190 lifts can carry an amazing 260,000 people per hour,so hardly any queues, even peak season. It's an intermediate paradise, with two thirds of the runs as blue or red. There are also lots of nursery slopes and some debutant greens. 12% of the pistes are black, with some stomach lurching Couloirs and off piste powder. Snowboarders are in paradise too, with 4 snow parks and half pipes. Plus for cross country skiers/ski du fond, there are masses of beautiful trails to really enjoy the scenery. Or, and if you are a non skier, try snow shoe walking, husky sledd riding, sledging on dedicated long runs and snow mobiles. Relax in one of the spas, the swimming pool, ice skate, go bowling or rock climbing wall. Meribel also hosts many international ice hockey games and ski championships.

Summer: apart from long sunny days, walks and looking at the scenery, you can stay in remote mountain refuges, plus a host of exciting sporting activities ranging from golf, tennis, horse riding, mountain biking, river rafting, canoeing, canyoning, an Adventure Park for kids of all ages,or more gentle activites such as swimming in crystal clear lakes and lovely mountain walks.and much more.

Non skiers. many things to do and see. The new Olympic centre has a large indoor pool with mountain views, a Spa, bowling Alley & Ice Rink.

You can also snow shoe walk, take walks through the woods on prepared paths, with a guide if you wish, husky sledge riding, paragliding & ballooning....... or just enjoy lunch in the sun on the top of the mountains.

or more gentle activities such as swimming in crystal clear lakes and lovely mountain walks.

Sunday times review 19th Nov'07:

A welcome trend in the Alps is the colonisation of lower altitude and more characterful mountain villages that missed the first round of ski resort developments, Les Allues is such a place: a few hairpins down from Méribel, it's a small rough hewn settlement, and by far the nicest place to stay in the valley. If you want a more laid back holiday, mixing awesome on-piste skiing in the world's largest ski area, with a lazy day or two catching the sun, you'll love it"

"Beautiful chalet with stunning views in a great location"

We went out to the Alps for a weeks mountain biking and walking and couldn't have asked for a better location. A stunning chalet with spectacular views that was a spot of luxury to return to in the evenings. Beautifully presented, immaculately clean and with everything that you could need provided. A perfect holiday and we would love to return to Chalet Champetre. Would absolutely recommended.

Thank you for your review. I am delighted you were comfortable in Chalet Champetre and enjoyed the super sunny weather & stunning views from the chalet. Great that you found it a good location for your biking holiday and the chalet cellar storage for your bikes easy and safe. I hope to welcome you for another holiday summer or winter. Repeat guests have a 5% discount.

Exclusive Chalet in a very nice location. Easy access to ski areas of Meribel Kindness and attention of Mrs Mary Lowings (the owner)

I'm delighted you enjoyed your stay and the village of Les Allues, which as you told me earlier is a tranquil retreat from the bustle of the centre of Meribel.I hope to be able to welcome you for another holiday. For repeat guests I give 5% off. Kindest regards, Mary

"Most charming chalet"

We had a wonderful vacation at Chalet Champetre in Les Allues. We were two couples, and the Chalet came up to all our expectations, and much more!! It is not only comfortable and perfectly equipped, but also beautifully decorated, with lots of attention to every detail. We tried very hard, but could not find anything missing... Mary, the owner, was very kind and helpful, her tips were excellent. The surroundings are breathtaking, lots of places to visit and enjoy. We definitely recommend this Chalet, and hope to stay there again. Rachel & Giora, Rona & Dov

Thank you very much for taking the time to do a review and I am so pleased you had a wonderful holiday. The season this year has progressed really well, with still perfect snow on the higher runs. Hopefully I can welcome you for another holiday in either the glorious summer or winter ski season

"A really well-equipped chalet with stunning views conveniently but quietly situated"

We were extremely well looked after by the owner from the first enquiry until after our return; all necessary information and helpful tips were provided and every question willingly answered. The chalet was spacious and thoroughly well-equipped - probably the best we have ever found in self-catering accommodation. All the furnishings, china and glass are to a very high standard. The feel was very comfortable, cosy and spoiling, without being 'over the top'. The setting is away from the crowded and hectic centre of Meribel but easily accessed by the free shuttle buses. Being away from the centre means that the chalet is quiet and feels more 'real'; the views are spectacular.

Many thanks for your review. I am delighted you enjoyed your stay, felt at home and had all you needed. Should you wish to return, I give 5% off for repeat guests. I hope to welcome you again

"Wanted to stay longer!"

Eleven of us with an age range of 11 to 63 years enjoyed a wonderful two week stay at Chalet Champetre. The owner, Mary, throughout the whole process, from booking to leaving, was extremely kind, thoughtful and effecient. Any emails or telephone calls were always dealt with promptly and friendly and left us feeling well cared for and not just 'another booking'. Tracey too, the manageress, we all found to be friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. When we arrived at the chalet late Saturday evening it was dark. When we opened the doors and entered, well wow, what a lovely surprise....a warm, comfortable and beautiful place to call home, sadly for only two weeks. All your needs were catered for . The kitchen well stocked with all the cutlery, crockery and utensils you could need. ...but the best was to come. When we woke Sunday morning and opened the curtains, well, the views were outstanding! After we dragged ourselves away from the balcony where the sun shone and the most fabulous views can be enjoyed we explored the surrounding area. The village shop provides all the basics you need but more choice and better value in Super U just down the hill. Good price for petrol too. The other way up the hill is Meribel and associated villages. Meribel La Chaudanne is perfect for families. Stacks to do and do again. We played tennis, ice skating, cable car (best crepes ever at the top).Just watch the weird speedo rule in the swimming pool!!?? But if you want a family swim La Tania has a little pool. You MUST visit Lake Bozel.....beautiful and relazing. Hire a pedalo and have fun. Only 20 minutes away. Just further on from there Pralognan. Stunning but visit on a clear day to fully appreciate. Same with Mont Blanc. About 2 hours away at Chamonix. A little pricey but amazing and a must do. Several trips to Lake Annecy. The chateux and beach at Saint Bernard very good. Oh I could go on and on so best if you see for yourself.

Thank you for a very informative review, full of good advice on some of the wonderful places to visit and things to do in the glorious summer months. I am so glad you all felt at home and enjoyed your stay. Come again!

"Cosy and spacious chalet comfortably fitting 10+ people and providing a wonderful setting for a great ski holiday!"

Superb service from start to finish! We were welcomed in all possible ways not only within the lovely chalet but also through numerous tips and pointers before we arrived making our holiday a total success! Chalet was in immaculate condition with large rooms and plenty of communal space (dining, living room, terrace, etc) but at the same time guaranteeing privacy for all individuals & families within. Shame the chalet isn't a bit closer to Meribel slopes as it's difficult when choosing a suitable winter resort to know exactly how to find the right location in proximity of town and slopes. Should be a little clearer from the outset that the location isn't quite Meribel! Regardless, the quality of the chalet and service received more than compensated for the location. A car is a must!

I am really pleased you found Chalet Champêtre suited your group and you were all comfortable. As you say plenty of space for all, but also with areas you can be quiet if you wish. The advantage of not being right in the centre is more space for your money, but you are right, having a car there does make it easier. We always drive to Méribel-Village and park for free right by the fast chair lift to avoid the busier area in the mornings of the centre of Méribel. That way you get the best of all worlds. I hope to be able to welcome you back again, especially now you know your way around. Mary

"A very spacious and well appointed Chalet"

Having been to the three valleys for many years now, this has been the best experiance that we have had when staying in and around Meribel. The Chalet is very spacious, and well appointed and has a great open fire to relax in front of after a good days skiing. Even though there are buses in the village we found the best way of reacing the slopes was to drive to Meribel Village were there was free parking, which was very close to the chair lift, this was a small sacrifice to pay as the the Chalet made up for this small inconvience as all the other properties we have stayed in have been ski in and out but are much smaller. We all very much look forward to returning again soon.

As you are skiers who know Les Trois Vallées and Méribel well, I am delighted you enjoyed your stay in our pretty village of Les Allues and were comfortable in Chalet Champêtre and enjoyed your week. An advantage of staying in one of the 'satellite' villages linked to the centre, is more space for the money. Plus we are quieter at night, but with the buses operating now until 0030, still able to 'party' or dine in different restaurants in the centre of Méribel in the evening, if you choose. I look forward to welcoming you back summer or winter. Mary

"Top class self catering accommodation."

Have stayed in both the apartments and the Chalet Champêtre house and really enjoyed it on both occasions. The units have everything (cable television, wifi Internet, etc.) required for a lovely stay. Meribel is a world class skiing resort with more prepared pistes than I've managed to ski in 15 days!

Thank you very much for your review. Well.... there are a lot more runs to experience and hopefully you will be back. I've skied in Les Trois Vallées for over 20 years and last week found 2 new runs in Meribel. Not the new couloir,( I can only watch that in sheer amazment!), but the newly found runs are nice blues through the trees! best regards, Mary

"Lovely chalet, well appointed and great location"

Ten of us from three families stayed as a group in the Chalet Champetre in June. The setting is great, with mountain views from the chalet balcony and the rear bedroom windows, and located only a few minutes walk from the village centre. The chalet living/dining area is spacious and very comfortable - we had plenty of room to sit comfortably around the dining table and later to relax on cosy sofas and play board games, watch films or listen to music. Everything was provided - no going out to buy a corkscrew or do without a wine glass and lots of films, music and games for evening entertainment. There are even a set of kitchen scales and plenty of pans and casserole dishes if you really want to spend time cooking in the kitchen. The robes, towels and liquid soap provided in bedrooms / bathrooms were of good quality and added to the convenience of the place. There was always plenty of hot water and the chalet was easy to warm on the one cold day that we had. Some of the bedrooms are not overly large and the upstairs bureau room has a low sloping ceiling, but if you're worried you can easily check these before you book. We found that, as the rest of the chalet was spacious, this did not matter. Families with young children will need to take extra care as there are open stairs, balconies and lots of white sheepskin rugs and attractive cushions. During our visit (early June) the only downside was shopping - there is a small village store which opened mornings only and is quite limited and expensive. The nearest supermarket is a long, windy drive to the bottom of the valley. We would be happy to return if future plans allow and are grateful to Mary who took our booking, answered our emails promptly and sent us lots of useful tips and information. She even gave us a ring when we arrived to make sure we were happily settled in. It felt like we were renting the chalet from a friend.

Thank you very much for your lovely and detailed review. It will be helpful for others trying to find the right holiday home for themselves. Very good point about the open staircase and the 2 upstairs bedrooms. The bedroom pictures are on my web site and following your review I now have one of the lounge showing the staircase. I'm delighted you had a good time. Nathalie's shop in the village has just expanded, so is better stocked, so hopefully no need to drive down the mountain to Moutiers. Mind you the Super U there is cheaper, so maybe worth the 15 minute drive. Best regards, Mary.

"Lovely place"

Lovely chalet, v spacious and well fitted out. Plenty of options for getting to the ski runs (we drove to Meribel Village and had free parking there). Les Allues is a much more traditional French village than Meribel itself, which we enjoyed. There's a lovely feel to the chalet and v comfortable place. No shortage of bathrooms (which helps when staying with multiple friends/family) and v comfortable bedrooms. Really good ambience in the living areas. The only downsides were a temperamental stovetop cooker and a lack of some minor essentials such as dish-washing liquid. There is an odd system where the owner stocks the chalet fully at the start of the season then expects guests to replace whatever runs out - bit odd in a chalet of this level. However, this is a very minor drawback and we would highly recommend the place to anyone.

I am delighted you enjoyed your stay and felt at home. I have now placed some instructions for the hob operation in the chalet, as that may help, so thank you for letting me know.
