SUNDAY TIMES REVIEW 19th Nov '06:
'A welcome trend in the Alps is the colonisation of lower altitude and more characterful mountain villages that missed the first round of ski resort developments, Les Allues is such a place: a few hairpins down from Méribel, it's a small rough hewn settlement, and by far the nicest place to stay in the valley. If you want a more laid back holiday, mixing awesome on-piste skiing in the world's largest ski area, with a lazy day or two catching the sun, you'll love it"
Meribel - Les Allues is linked by gondola and free shuttle bus to the centre of Méribel and is in the heart of Les Trois Vallées ski area, the largest in the world, with over 200 linked lifts and over 600 km of perfectly groomed pistes plus many marked 'off pistes'. There are also two fun parks and snow board parks. A fourth valley, Orelle, has now been linked to the Three Valleys, accessed via Mottaret and then Val Thorens. All types of winter sports activities are available in the immediate area.
In summer, you can enjoy walking and looking at the scenery, or the more adventurous can stay in remote mountain refuges. There is a host of exciting sporting activities ranging from mountain biking, river rafting, canoeing, canyoning, an Adventure Park for kids of all ages and much more!
The chalet is situated in its own unfenced grounds with magnificent mountain views. The village centre is a 5 minute walk and has 4 restaurants and bars, a ski & mountain-bike hire shop, Tabac, Boulangerie & general store, post office, museum and library. You will find this small village very friendly and will soon get to know the people, especially in the bars at "aprés ski" sessions. Access in winter is easy to reach the pistes. In summer, walks start right from the door. The area offers many summer activities ranging from mountain biking, river rafting, golf, tennis, fishing, rock climbing, and even overnight stays in remote mountain refuges!

"16 Chalet Burgin Meribel-Les Allues"
Just returned from a fantastic weeks skiing in Meribel. The chalet is in an excellent location about a 15 minutes gondola ride or 10 minute car/bus journey away from Meribel Centre and has all the amenities that you would want for a weeks self catering holiday and has more that enough space for 6 adults. The chalet owner Mary was very helpful throughout the booking and provided excellent information on the resort, skiing area, bars and restaurants and locations for discounts on ski hire and lessons. I would definitely consider returning to this chalet in both the summer and winter.
Thank you Greg for your review. It will be my pleasure to welcome you again. For repeat guests I give 5% off, winter or summer. There is also loads to do in the summer months with some very exciting 'extreme' sports !!

"Excellent Chalet, ideally located 5 minutes from the slopes"
This is the 2nd year in a row that we have stayed at one of Mary's chalets in Meribel, as the skiing / snow is always very rewarding in early April. The resort caters for all levels of ability, ranging from the daredevil to the pipe smoking sedate skier. The accomodation is located 5 minutes down the hill in the village of Les Allues and is an ideal base for a family wanting peace and quiet in the evening. Overall the chalet is in great condition, with all amenties you need to keep 3 boys happy. Free wifi was especially good. Looking forward to our next visit to Meribel.
I am so glad you had a good week and especially as the snow was excellent and you had a week of glorious sunshine. Hopefully I can welcome you back next year as well. Mary

"Homely, well equipped with outstanding views of the mountains beyond"
The chalet was very welcoming when we entered, very pleased to see the views, listening to the church bells every morning was really sweet. The beds were very comfy. The dressing gowns and the bathroom toiletries was a really nice touch. Plenty of room for a family, very well equipped. It was handy having wifi, especially for the teenagers so they could still chat with their friends, also having satellite tv kept them occupied. The village was really nice, everybody seemed very friendly especially in the local bread shop. The buses running from the village were very handy as they were free and were very regular so you didn't have to drive too far if you didn't want to. The only downside even though the weather was lovely was the balcony chairs were not the comfiest if you decided to stay in the chalet for a while. Also it was a shame that only a few of the ski lifts were working because it was out of season, even so we made the most of the ones that were working. Overall a lovely holiday in a very lovely chalet, really enjoyed it and hopefully we will be back.
Thank you for the review and the advice about the balcony chairs. Unfortunately the previous guests had broken the 'directors' chairs we had, so we quickly had to get the temporary ones while you were there, so apologies if they were not comfortable. The new ones we ordered have now arrived and there are now comfy chairs and a new table. Hopefully you will be back to enjoy them, the views and the pretty sound of the church bells, while sitting on the balcony.

"Comfortable Apartment in Quiet Village , Close to Ski Area"
This was a perfect apartment to stay in for a family. Well appointed and clean with, good quality linen and furnishings and comfortable beds. Up two flights of stairs and has good views over the valley. Good selection of books- games and DVDs enhance our stay as did the WiFi. A bit off the beaten track so Mary's directions and advice were invaluable and really added to the holiday. A car would be strongly recommended as the ski area was 10 minutes away. There was a parking space nearby. The parking within the resort was easy to find and inexpensive and added to the experience.
Thank you for your informative review and good advice for future skiers I very glad you were comfortable in 16 Chalet Burgin and enjoyed the village of Les Allues. With feedback from my guests, I can ensure that all is in order for all guests staying. I hope to welcome you back for another stay, for winter sports or try the glorious summer months.

We stayed in no 16 for three weeks prior to Christmas and also had access to no 14 and they both exceeded expectation, they are both beautifully decorated and well equipped and the information provided in the apartments about the local area and amenities are invaluable, Both Mary and Kristy were a delight to deal with and no problem was to big or too small, i would highly recommend either of these apartments and so much so we have already booked for next year
Thank you Martin & Sharron. I will pass your kind comments on to Kristy and we both look forward to you coming back this coming December. Best regards, Mary

"Great accommodation in Les Allues, ticked all our boxes."
We had a great trip to Meribel recently, we have not stayed in an apartment before and were very pleased with this apartment, it felt like we were in our own chalet, very comfortable.
Many thanks Paul, I am very glad you felt at home.I look forward to welcoming you back next February'13. And maybe try the summer, the area is full of great & extreme activities, clear blue skies and fresh clean air...or just sit on the balcony with a nice glass of Rosé wine and absorb the view!

"Great apartment, very well equipped"
Great apartment situated in the lovely village of Les Allues. It is very well equipped and has a very homely feel about it. The balcony is an absolute sun trap and many a morning we enjoyed relaxing before breakfast soaking up a few rays. The ensuite shower room/wc in one room, coupled with the separate bathroom and wc makes it a great place to stay for families or groups of friends alike. The apartment is situated on the second floor and there is no lift, however there is a ski locker for ski equipment. We actually rented a locker at the Chaudanne as there is only a short time in the season that you can actually ski back to the village. Access to the slopes is easy and is either by the free local bus which runs frequently to a strict timetable or by the olympic gondola. The bus stop is a ten minute walk from the accommodation and the gondola fifteen. The village has a great grocery shop which stocks just about everything you could need. There is also a hotel, a few restaurants and a bar. We rented the underground parking space which is great value and although in March there was not huge snow fall during our stay, in January it saved us having to dig out our car on our day of travel home where two foot of snow had fallen overnight.
Thank you very much Sarah for your detailed review.I am sure all the information will be very useful for people looking for the right ski home for them. Best regards, Mary
