Description from owner

Description

Walkers have an array of walks to choose from including along the River Tweed with the possibility of seeing a salmon leap, a darting kingfisher, or a heron patiently waiting for a bite. More challenging walks can be found on the Eildon Hills, as well as St. Cuthbert's Way, and the Borders Abbey Way.

There are interesting gift shops, clothes shops, butchers who prepare delicious pies and ready made meals, and a fishmonger offering locally sourced fish from Eyemouth, as well as a delicatessen, and two small supermarkets.

For the size of the town, it offers a wealth of excellent restaurants, cafes and pubs

Free car parking is available 100yards from the flat.

Melrose Abbey lies within the town, and Abbotsford house and gardens, the home of Sir Walter Scott with recently completed visitor centre, is on the outskirts of the town, and very popular.

The Scotland region

Melrose is one of the most attractive towns in the Borders, and is renowned for the Eildon Hills, River Tweed, and beautiful surrounding countryside, interspersed with historical buildings.
For the size of the town, it boasts a wealth of good eateries, shops cafes and pubs.
There are various festivals throughout the year, including rugby 7's, Book festival, Melrose festival, and pipeband competition.
It is also very accessible to Edinburgh, making it an ideal stop-over for the festival held there in August, or a visit to Scotland's capital city.

Melrose

As well as rugby, the Borders is known for its many golf courses. Many of the courses offer a 3-5 day "Freedom of the Fairways" pass at a competitive price.
Salmon fishing on the Tweed is a popular past-time.
Bicycles can be hired from the chain bridge, which links Melrose with the picturesque village of Gattonside, which has 2 restaurants.
There is a good bus service throughout the local towns.

“Fantastic stay”

Reviewed 17 Sep 2013

The flat was wonderful, very clean and in a superb location. We couldn't have asked for more and the whole stay was an absolute bargain. I would highly recommend staying here.
