Description from owner
This beautifully located cottage is surprisingly spacious, and sleep up to 4 people very comfortably With a lovely big kitchen/dinner enjoying a relaxed atmosphere. The sitting room is perfect with a flat screen tv with freeview and dvd player. Perfect for families, couples and fishermen. The kitchen leads out onto a patio which is a haven for eating and relaxing on summer days and nights. This is a home away from home in the heart of the Scottish Borders. We are less than a mile from the famous Melrose Abbey and walking in from Newstead on the former Masons route makes it even more special. We are 2 minutes from the river Tweed where fishing is our passion and we cater for the fishers in all ways. I am a full time ghillie come casting instructor, offering a service second to none, from a days trout fishing to a full salmon fishing package with all equipment available for hire. There is nothing I cant sort out fishing wise with the best contacts on the river, we will do all we can

The Scotland region
The Scottish Borders is justly a location for all seasons!
With the fantasic Winter's lovely frosty mornings and the spectacular landscape around you, down by the River Tweed with the mist rising off the water, the silence can feel as though one is on a different planet. The area and atmosphere changes so much, it just revitalizes and rejuvenates you. The Spring lambs are in all the fields and the new growth surrounds us. In the Summer one can just relax to a countryfied way of life. Slowly the Autumnal colours appear and are a beauty to behold. Driving around the Borders offers you fantastic views over every rise.
Melrose has an excellent 9-hole golf course on the shoulder of the Eildon Hills, with wonderful views and is one of 21 excellent courses in the area.
There are tennis courts in the park at Melrose.
This is the heart of rugby country, with the Greenyards at Melrose being the home of the rugby Sevens game.
For less active days, there is a wealth of stately homes, ruined abbeys, historic castles and peel towers to visit - the nearest is probably Sir Walter Scott's home of Abbotsford, just four miles distant - as well as some lovely gardens nearby like Monteviot and Mertoun.

- Very Good
“Lovely, modern, comfortable home”
This was the perfect house for our family holiday. Very comfortable beds and spacious bedrooms. The kitchen diner was super and very well equipped. Very comfortable and relaxing living room. Attention to detail was first class. We had booked this as a base for a number of places we wanted to visit in the area, and it was a good location for that. However, our travelling meant we didn't do justice to all that is on offer locally. Melrose Abbey is spectacular and Jedburgh Abbey was very interesting too (so was the Castle Jail museum at Jedburgh). There was much more to see and do locally than I had appreciated. We would love to return. The owner was very helpful and the neighbours very friendly and helpful too.
Thank you for your feedback. Great to know that the kitchen was well equiped, as I want your stay at Speycaster cottage to be an enjoyable one.
