Location description from owner

The England region

West Dorset is the perfect holiday location with uncrowded beaches, miles of unspoilt Heritage Coast, pretty harbours and little villages seemingly untouched by time. Lovely old houses, museums and houses to explore, excellent sea fishing off the long expanse of Chesil Beach or from nearby fishing lakes. There are countless places of interest to visit in West Dorset – the sub-tropical gardens or swannery at Abbotsbury, for instance, or Hardy's Cottage. Lyme Regis, with its famous Cobb, immortalised in "The French Lieutenant's Woman". Weymouth, Portland Bill and Bournemouth are conveniently placed for a day out. If you wish to venture further afield, there is Brownsea Island or other National Trust properties to visit, or even a day trip from Weymouth to the Channel Islands.Nearby, the local Palmers brewery, is the only brewery to have a thatched roof and offers tours (and samples) which you will not want to miss. West Bay, the pretty harbour of Bridport, was once used as the setting for "Harbour Lights", with Nick Berry portraying the Harbour Master, whilst television celebrity chef, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall was filmed near Binghams Farm in "Return to River Cottage". Bridport market is held Saturdays and Wednesdays in the town and there is an annual Carnival and Show.

“Everything we were looking for.”

Reviewed 12 Apr 2016

We have just returned from a lovely week at Bluebell Cottage. The cottage was immaculate and very well equipped. We were warmly welcomed by Alistair and Lisa and enjoyed the home baked cakes on arrival! Our children loved the trampoline, jungle gym and football facilities. We visited many locations along the coast - all within an easy drive of the cottage and found plenty to do. We hope to return next year!

“Great for us and even greater for the dogs”

Reviewed 16 Nov 2014

The cottage was warm, welcoming and well equipped. The garden large, and very dog secure. Located near super walks and good pubs, what more can you ask for? Owners, Alistair and Lisa couldn't have been more helpful.

“Clean and tidy Great Value”

The cottage was very modern, it was great to have WiFi. Lovely large garden with gas BBQ. Great walks from the cottage, very peaceful and quiet. Warm and cosy.

“A splendid quiet week with everything taken care of”

Reviewed 11 Apr 2014

Melplash is a very beautiful location just outside the town of Bridport. We loved the beautiful outside with plenty to explore for our son of 4. Inside was a very warm and welcome atmosphere and enough space for the 3 of us.
