Location description from owner

The England region

The Northern region of the English Lake District National Park is not only an area of outstanding natural beauty. With lakes, mountains, delightful small towns, villages and hamlets set amongst magnificent landscape this is somewhere to escape from the pressures of modern living.

There are many villages and hamlets within the North Lakes area, each different in character and setting, many in truly picturesque locations. In and between the villages are some of the most delightful pubs, often serving beers from local breweries, and some brewing their own.

Melmerby

The keen walker will appreciate the Northern Pennines which, along with the Lakeland Fells are areas of “Outstanding Natural Beauty”.

Many people visiting Cumbria overlook the beautiful Eden Valley. The Lake District National Park is only 30 minutes drive. There you will find every conceivable facility from outdoor shops to lake-side theater; passenger ferries and pleasant woodland walks at Keswick. Explore Windermere and Buttermere and take in the delights of our future world heritage site.
There are many pretty villages and market towns all within easy travelling distance together with an abundance of visitor attractions.
Keswick is the most popular centre for tourism in the North Lake District. Keswick's mainly traffic free town centre has a wide range of specialist shops and galleries, a busy weekly local market, excellent tearooms and cafes for morning coffees, lunches and afternoon teas. For the evenings there is no shortage of cafes, pubs and restaurants offering a range of Cumbrian and International cuisine.

Whatever you're looking for - history, culture, scenery, activity or just relaxing Keswick has something for everyone. A gentle stroll from the town centre though beautiful parks leads to the shores of Derwentwater, a truly delightful lake, studded with small islands and surrounded by magnificent fells. For those in search of culture the Theatre by the Lake offers music, theatre, dance and much more. For artists and photographers and artists the landscape is without equal. Many people come to Keswick and the North Lakes especially for the wide range of outdoor activities such as paragliding, rock climbing, fell walking, cycling both on and off-road, pony trekking, canoeing, sailing, - or you can simply relax and enjoy the magnificent views or take a lake cruise. The options are endless. The area also plays host to a variety of events and festivals throughout the year, such as a literary festival, jazz festival, film festival and beer festival!
The main trunk route through the North Lake District is the A66; beside that road lies the market town of Keswick, often referred to as the leisure or adventure capital of the Lake District, it sits in the midst of magnificent scenery. Some miles to the east of Keswick on the A66, and just outside the Park boundary, is the town of Penrith, known to most visitors to the area as it sits by Junction 40 of the M6 where it meets the A66. About 10 miles to the west of Keswick is the popular town of Cockermouth, also just outside the National Park boundary. Each of these three towns has a weekly market where local produce can usually be found.

To get full enjoyment from the area a good place to stay is essential Eden Valley is a wonderful place to stay.
