Description

The cottage has two-bedrooms and three downstairs rooms: a fully equipped kitchen; a main sitting room; and a snug, complete with television and a real fire. It has oil central heating and a wood burner, so there is plenty of ways to keep you warm during Cumbria's wettest and coldest days. There's a decent-sized garden, plenty of room for parking and over the garden wall is the village green with swings and slides.

Pet friendly. We are more than happy for you to bring your dogs and simply want people to use it as if it was their own. There are no hard and fast rules, we just expect for people to leave as they found it and replace any breakages.

“Peaceful week away”

Cosy cottage with well equipped kitchen, lovely open fires and excellent heating to counter the Lake District weather. Good location for travel to all areas of the northern Lakes.

We stayed at Bluebell Cottage from 21/10 for 6 nights, a family of four 2 adults and 2 children aged 9 and 11 and a dog. Firstly the response time from Paul the owner was great any questions were quickly answered, thank you Paul. From the outside the cottage looks beautiful and is right on the village green in a tiny quiet farming village. The inside is also lovely. You enter into the main room which is large and has a dinner table with plenty of chairs and two comfy chairs in front of the log burner. To the left is large kitchen which has everything you could need, fully stocked with cutlery and crockery and plenty of utensils, washing machine, dishwasher and a fridge (no freezer). To the back of the house is another room which is very cosy and has two chairs and a large sofa and open fire place. Upstairs has some lovely views, especially from the twin bedroom which looks out onto sheep grazing and the mountains, the boys liked their room and there was plenty of space for them. The main bedroom is large and has an extremely comfy bed and plenty of pillows. The bathroom is very big and had a wonderful shower. The property was very clean and very warm, I would most definitely recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway. You will need a car to get around as it's about a 30 min drive to any of the 'attractions' such as Keswick, Ullswater etc. There is a little pub a 2 min walk away from the cottage, however this is only open Wednesday to Sunday from 6pm and only serving food Thursday - Sunday 6-9, dogs are welcome here too. There is also another pub and tea room a 5 min drive away in Melmbry not sure of the timings for these but did notice the pub was shut Mon and Tuesday. We had a fantastic time staying here and are looking to return soon! I've included a couple of pictures of the views from the bedroom and landing windows.

My wife and I have just stayed at the cottage for the week with our puppy. As soon as we saw Bluebell cottage we liked it, even our puppy seemed to feel instantly at home! Located in a quiet village you really feel you can relax and enjoy the peace. The cottage is very well sized plenty of space, the garden is beautiful and a pleasure to sit in when the sun is shining. The cottage is well furnished, plenty of equipment provided in the kitchen to ensure you can prepare your own meals and the double bed was so comfortable! The open fire in the snug is great, it was lovely to be able to have toast done over an open fire which have not had since my childhood. We visited the Shepherds Inn at Melmerby the food is delicious particularly the steak and mushroom Guinness pie! A fantastic place to stay!

My partner, daughter and I have just come back from a wonderful week in the Lake District staying at Bluebell Cottage in Ousby. When we first arrived at Bluebell Cottage we were all thrilled with the location and comfort of the cottage. The views of the fields and the hills from the cottage were stunning. The green right on our doorstep was basically used as our back garden, we all had a great time playing football and having our cheese and wine out there on a sunny evening. The cottage had in it everything we could need for a week (we all wished it had been 2 weeks). The beds were comfortable and the snug was very cosy of an evening when we were relaxing. The kitchen was great for preparing an evening meal, it had all the equipment we needed and an added bonus a dishwasher, so no washing up!! Melmerby, which is the next village on, a mile and a half away, was lovely to walk or cycle to and have lunch in the well known Village Bakery. We had beautiful drives out to a few of the lakes, Windermere, Keswick and Ullswater. A Perfect place to be!

Ideally located with excellent facilities. Two real fires, quality cooking equipment and powerful shower. Stunning views, with a nice garden and the village green right beside the house. The web site does not do the house justice. A nice tranquil place away from it all. The local pub, The Fox inn, is just a stones throw away, it has a friendly atmosphere, with a real fire, excellent food at reasonable prices. The lake district is easy accessible with some nice walks on your door step. It’s one of those places where you think do you really want to give this secret away. We loved it so much we have booked another holiday there, we did not intended to have! Thanks Sandra & Kevin

“The perfect retreat”

My wife and I had a lovely stay in February 2013. The cottage is very cosy and full of character with some stunning views. It is ideally located for the many wonderful walks in the area (Aira Force water fall walk being a particular favourite of ours!). With the snow fall that we had during our stay we were spoilt for choice with both a wood burner and open fire. The local pub is very welcoming! For golfers I would recommend the nearby Penrith Golf Club. Could not fault the accommodation or the location and we will certainly be back again soon. Jules and Emma Cole.

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.
