Unique rental accommodation in an ancient Water Mill with helpful/discreet owners on site. Set in acres of landscaped gardens minutes from the medieval town of Melle.Within 1hrs easy reach of Golden Beaches, Cognac,La Rochelle, Futuroscope,Green Venice,Monkey valley etc..

The Mill has been renovated and furnished to a very high standard maintaining its illuminated mill workings & fitted kitchen in the original millrace.The lounge/dining room has just been converted into a "low carbon" area (waterwheel electricity, rain water toilet, Solar hot water etc..) Large flat screen Sky TV, large patio doors that look out across the garden.A fully fitted kitchen has been installed in the original mill race, indoor fishing! Large work surfaces with double sink, microwave/grill, oven, microwave,dishwasher, washing machine, kettle, toaster and large fridge/freezer.The 'machine room' has a stone flagged floor,oak beams and the original 18th century illuminated mill workings, armchairs/settee, SKY TV/DVD, Sound system, books and games. A wide hardwood staircase leads to the first floor where there are 3 bedrooms. The 'Oak room' with the old mill stones embedded in the floor has a double bed,wardrobe, TV/DVD player & en suite shower room, WC, hand basin. Annexed 'Millers room' with 2x single beds which can also be accessed by its own private balcony. A third double bedroom called the "Granary" has a TV/DVD with en suite Jacuzzi bath, separate WC and host's a four poster bed and a single bed.All bedrooms are equipped with electric fans to keep you cool in the hot summer months.

The "Green Venice" (Marais Poitevin) is only a pleasant 40 minutes drive. An hour to the south is Cognac with its many distilleries offering guided tours, including the famous Hennessy, Martell and Remy Martin. Wildlife parks, historical buildings, chateaux, museums, aquariums, golf courses and theme parks make this area the perfect choice for that very special holiday that bring returning guests year after year.

Facilities include, Free Wi-Fi ,French & English TV,Badminton, Table Tennis,Boules,6" snooker table, mountain Bikes, 7m x 4m x 1.3m Heated Plunge Pool, Gas & charcoal Barbeques, Bread oven covered Barbeque eating area, pool covered eating area, garden furniture.

We have brought up 3 children here and have rented out to families with children of all ages over the past 17 years.We have done every thing possible to make the property & grounds as safe and child friendly as possible,enclosed garden around the pool,electric gates etc..but nothing can replace parent supervision.Welcome Hamper on arrival, seasonal fruit & vegetables fresh from our gardens, reductions for longer lets & couples.

“Lovely accommodation, beautiful weather and ideal location.”

Thankyou for a lovely visit. Not only were we incredibly lucky with the weather, we also found an absolute gem in staying at the old mill. It has been renovated beautifully and offered everything we could need for our family. The kids has great fun playing in the gardens and streams, challenging each other to snooker and badminton competitions and just generally chilling in a super location. The facilities were great and we could not have asked for more.

“The perfect rural retreat! Highly Recommended”

We have found an absolute gem of a property at Le Moulin De La Combe, an idyllic property and grounds where we all enjoyed a fantastic stay. The Property is a wonderfully restored Watermill, complete with Mill Race running through the kitchen. Downstairs there is a fully equipped kitchen (full oven, Dishwasher, Washing Machine, Microwave etc.) built around the original machinery in a really clever way. You feel like you are living in something between a museum piece and a tiny bit of history. The old machinery in the lounge throws up something new everyday to look at - and is totally safe for kids etc. The lounge area is comfortable with sofa, comfy chairs, dining table and a TV (UK Channels). The large room that has recently been converted is where we spent most of our time - another dining table, comfy chairs and sofa's, a large TV (French Channels) and is finished superbly. Spot lighting, amazing pieces of furniture and lots of floor space. Four large glass sliding doors give you a window to the superb gardens outside. Upstairs there are three comfortable bedrooms - again there are tastefully done to a high standard. Well equipped bathrooms, plenty of storage space - the property is charming, authentic, clean and has everything you need - including countless DVD's and books if you have the odd day of poor weather (or need to get out of the sun!) A balcony, complete with Snooker table gives even more room and again, is an amazing place to sit and enjoy the view of the garden. Outside and the high standards continue. The gardens throw up countless fruits and places to explore but as you head to the side of the property, you find the bathing area for guests. A huge splash pool (bigger than some below ground pools we've had in the past) is plenty for several kids at once - our 13 and 16 year old had plenty of room to lay out on Lilo's and mess around in general with several sun loungers in front and a superb covered area with another large dining table for an alfresco breakfast or to sit and enjoy some of the local wines as the sun goes down. The bathing area provides a window through to the water in front of the property and the water mill, through the twist of vines across the fencing. It really is idyllic. It's also a sun trap. On the weeks we stayed, there was very little breeze and it was red hot for all of you sun lovers. The covered area makes a great place to take a break, top up your sun-creams and cool down with a beer! Move beyond the bathing area and there is a flat lawn place for badminton, boules or whatever else you can make use of it for. There is another outside dinning area near to a BBQ, hidden under trees and on soft gravel, again if you need to get out of the sun - and through the fence, you enter the main garden area - and it is huge! Take a walk round the streams, stroll across grass and admire the trees, see the ducks, watch the wildlife or find new plants and wild flowers. There was something new every day. We took our small dog, who is water mad. I think he has found his heaven! Small Children would need to be supervised, but the water is not deep or dangerous and there is plenty of space for them to stay back (access to the larger gardens is largely fenced off too remember!). The owners - are just as described. Jason and his family are welcoming, yet discreet. To be honest, we didn't see them until we needed their help finding us a vet for our dog. The way the Watermill is laid out, there is nothing overlooking you and you are completely private. But once we asked for help, Jason couldn't have been more supportive. Friendly, discreet, helpful and professional - what more could you want. The area - very easy to find. Rural - there are a few neighbouring properties but given the size of the grounds, a neighbouring property over there is only just within walking distance and you certainly never see or hear anyone else. The road outside is quiet, but behind electronic gates anyway and the property is set well away from the road. The nearest town of Melle is seven or eight minutes drive away and well equipped with everything you need - supermarkets, Boulangeries, Patisseries, Coffee shops, Chemists, Bars etc. and plenty of market towns to visit. We also visited La Rochelle, Ile De Re and knowing the area, Cognac, Royan, La Palmyre are all well worth a visit. We have stayed in France for the past 14 years - and we always like to go somewhere new. This is the first time we have all agreed we want to go back and will be booking for 2015. It is a great location, great property and we had a fantastic holiday. I couldn't recommend it highly enough.

What a fantastic place! Lovely gardens and grounds, the setting is magnificent and the quality of the accommodation is possibly the best we have ever found in many years of gite rentals in France. The attention to detail is outstanding - fresh flowers on the table when we arrived, welcome hamper with local produce, spotlessly clean and tidy with comfortable furniture and even a four-poster bed! We appreciated the helpful advice from the owners on places to visit and learning about the history of the mill. 4**** recommendation.
