The Veneto region
Choosing the Veneto means selecting a destination. Experiencing the Veneto signifies many things: such is the quantity of treasure here kept. Today every type of holiday is possible in Veneto because in a land 210 km in length we find all beauties of nature and the summits of man's artistic achievements.
Here is possible to admire the world from the peaks of Dolomites or plunge into the deep blue of a sea steeped in history, to trace the epochs in ancient cities or enjoy invigorating lake air. Here one can love culture, relax and enjoy health cures the Romans knew of, sample traditional cuisine and customs, practise sport in close contact with nature in all her forms. Here one can count on the efficiency and quality of services.
Coming to Veneto means all this and much more... Veneto is the land that enchants: come and discover it !
A large and beautiful valley, the Valbelluna, a beautiful town, Mel. On a hill, stretched along the middle part of the Valbelluna, the old town full of churches and palaces, streets and precious glimpses. In all directions sweet and charming landscapes and views.
The Piave river runs through the vast gravel riverbed, the northern foothills of the Trevisan Prealps Dorsal where we can guess the famous Zumelle Castle and Praderadego. Beyond, at right Piave, the grand overview of Belluno Dolomites, from Schiara to the Mis Valley, to the Doge's horn Pizzoch, to the Palmar Three Stones, to Sass de Mura, to peaks of Feltre. At the bottom we can find Feltre, hidden from the Miesna Mountain.
But Mel is also art and history. An ancient history. Just below the hill was found a necropolis of the most important paleo-Venetian, testimonies in the Archaeological Museum. Then the Roman civilization, with the imperial military road Claudia Augusta Altinate, medieval stories and conflicts with the lords of Treviso. The Praderadego Pass, Cison of Valmarino, Abbot of Follina, Countess Sofia from Camino, the bishop of Belluno, the Zumelle Castle, the road Carrera. The long Venetian rule, transit raft of timber to Venice Arsenal. The beautiful square with the sixteenth-century town hall and the parochial church. The Renaissance palaces in Venetian style: Palace of Countess, Palace Barbuio-Gaio-Francescon, House Fulcis Guarnieri-De-Cal, House Fulcis, the old inn 'The Hat', the 'Giazzera' of Fulcis.
And the splendid monuments of nature. The Olt de Val d'Arc, stories of border disputes with Treviso, the gorge of Brent de l'Art, on the border with Trichiana, the cascade of Pissador, the huts scattered on the glades of pasture, woods and valleys. The river Piave, a great way of communication and source of employment.
