Location description from owner

The Pays de la Loire region

Our house is in the small village of Menil, dominated by pretty river walks and cycle paths. For those keen fisherman amongst you, this stretch of the river permits both night and day fishing for the huge carp lurking in its waters. Pedalo and canoe hire is available and there is a small tourist office next to the children's play area. The local 'guingette' (snack bar) is open by the river throughout May to October. Bread can also be purchased in the village itself. The village of Daon is only a short cycle ride away and this has a wider selection of restaurants (creperie, pizzeria and auberge) in addition to a mini golf and small shop. Château Gontier is 7km away and is the nearest town. Activities for younger children might include the zoo, the swimming pool, horse riding, the cinema, whilst adults will enjoy the weekly market and the collection of local bars and restaurants. You will be in the middle of a French community and if you are looking to perfect your language, then the accent is a good and neutral. We have had blistering hot days from May onwards and the climate is generally milder than in the UK.

Mayenne

La Grange has easy access to Brittany, Normandy, Mayenne and the Loire and so the choice is immense. The beaches of Brittany are approximately 1.5 hours away whilst in the other direction, all of the attractions of the Loire with its châteaux and famous wine caves are easily reached within 45 minutes. The nearest large town is Angers and in addition to the castle with its famous Apocalpyse Tapestry, there is the newly opened botanic park 'Terra Natura', the first of its kind in Europe. Car enthusiasts might enjoy the appeal of Le Mans, again under an hours drive away. Rock climbing and caving are to be found in Saulges.Puy Du Fou – this is one of the most famous theme parks in France chronicling the history of this country in the most entertaining and dramatic way possible ! Climbing in the Trees – 20 minutes away and a must for those of you with adventurous children!
