La Jolie Maison is a very pretty Perigordine style house in the village of Maurens, just north of Bergerac. The newly refurbished, tastefully decorated house, oozes character, charm and quirkiness throughout. Nestling in the beautiful dordogne countryside, yet only twenty minutes from the bustling town of Bergerac, it's a beautiful setting for a peaceful, idyllic holiday. Once you arrive, you can close the gates, and enjoy total peace, privacy and seclusion. You are only10 minutes away from the supermarket, a Km from your nearest Boulangerie, and surrounded by attractions and activities to suit all tastes. La Jolie Maison sits in a very large wrap around garden of some 3 acres, mostly lawned, a spacious patio, and newly refurbished swimming pool. The layout of the house suits sun worshipers and shade seekers alike. You can sit out the front of the house, enjoying the view, whilst relaxing under the the oak pagoda, or bask in the glorious sunshine, from sunrise to sunset! It really is uninterrupted, wall to wall all day!
The house has 2 double bedrooms on the ground floor, both within 2 steps of the main shower room, (1 within 10 steps of the pool) then 1 twin bedded room with a 'petite' en-suite shower room and wc on the first floor, and another double bedded room with ensuite wc and sink. We also have a '9th man' day bed, (same size as a single bed), which is on the landing, in a large recess.
La Jolie Maison also has a mezzanine area, which is visible from the main sitting room. Whilst it's pretty, we have decided to restrict access for safety purposes with children, and now use it to store our belongings.
For the convenience of the guests, all bed linen and house towels, including tea towels, are provided. We also have separate towels for the pool.
We have Wifi, 2 televisions at the house, in the kitchen and sitting room, both have FreeSat boxes, and most programmes in the UK are available. The main TV in the sitting room also has a DVD player, so film buffs can watch away. There is also an iphone docking station on the hall table, which is perfectly located to listen to music out by the pool.
There's an all weather Table Tennis Table on the terrace, and Croquet available on the lawns, which is challenging to say the least, as the gardens are not perfectly flat! We also have a couple of sets of Boule for those wishing to get into the French spirit, and anyone wishing to cycle, bikes are available to hire locally. Enquire when booking.
Inside the house, there are several board games, and a variety of books to suit all tastes.
ALONG WITH OURSELVES, FRIENDS AND FAMILY ALSO USE THE HOUSE. EVEN IF THE DATES YOU REQUIRE APPEAR BLOCKED OUT ON THE CALENDAR, ALWAYS EMAIL US AND CHECK. WE HAVE LOTS OF FLEXIBILITY, AND PROVIDED WE'VE NOT BOOKED FLIGHTS, WE'RE QUITE HAPPY TO ACCOMMODATE IF WE CAN.

The Dordogne region
Situated in the South West of France, the Dordogne enjoys and ideal climate not only for sunshine holidays, but for those wishing to enjoy and explore the lush green countryside, and beautiful scenery. It's mild winters, and average, summer temperature at least 7 degrees higher than the UK, ensure people visit the region throughout the year. Bergerac, (20 mins from house) is set near the stunning Dordogne river, which has many water activities available. This lovely French bustling town has an old quarter, several markets and quirky shops, with a good selection of restaurants and bars.
Until the early twentieth century, Bergerac was, for hundreds of years, predominantly a town dedicated to the wine trade, with the old town jostling behind the river port on the Dordogne. It is big enough to provide a good range of individual shops and a large market several days a week, as well as offering a lively cultural life. For several months each summer the beautiful old town hosts nightly events - and often you can join in for free - as well as specific festivals at weekends. Mid week entertainment includes dancing in one of the squares, jazz concerts, and a regular "brocante" or antiques market. Just wandering around is fun! Even better is to stop at a pavement café for a quick drink or a leisurely meal and watch the world of Bergerac go past. Bergerac even has a music hall if you want to try a fun night of Moulin Rouge type entertainment. All this is just an easy drive of no more than fifteen minutes away from our property.
Visitors are astounded by the historical sites, spanning the centuries from early man. The beautiful Lascaux cave paintings are known and admired throughout the world yet they were only discovered in the twentieth century and are only one of many notable sites just down that one river valley. All around us you can trace the centuries through the strongly fortified medieval castles, the bastide villages of the Hundred Year's war, followed by the flowering of the Renaissance. Just from the historical context there is more to see and do than you will probably fit into your holiday here. Add to that the multitude of village events, the excellent markets, sports such as canoeing, lovely places to eat,the genuinely friendly welcome and a holiday here will give you a taste of a truly delightful corner of Europe.
This beautiful area of France also boasts many world famous vineyards. Monbazillac and its stunning Chateau is only 20 mins from the house, with the very stylish St Emilion an hour, and Sarlat, with it's quaint cobbled streets, about the same.(1 hour). Visit Perigueux, the home of Foie Gras, or immerse yourself in some of the fascinating French history, in the many Chateaux open to the public.
There is as much or as little as you want, all within a short drive, and something to suit all ages.

"A lovely home in a beautiful rural setting yet close to Bergerac. Excellent Value and very relaxing"
This property is obviously not a typical rental, in as much as it feels very much a home from home. Set in a lovely rural location it provides a beautiful and peaceful holiday location but remains but a short drive from shops and Bergerac centre. The village, just a short drive or pleasant walk, provides daily needs while a choice of super markets are 10-15 minutes drive. We were a party of six with two adults, two teenagers (18 and 16) and two younger girls (9 and 7) the house, gardens and pool met all of our demands with comfort. This is an ideal family spot and there is plenty to do in the surrounding area if you want to do more than laze around the pool! Everything was there as you would need it to be, well appointed kitchen, superb main shower room and the style of the home coupled with the ceiling fans meant that even on very hot days the inside remained cool and comfortable. Bergerac is a fabulous city with an excellent range of restaurants and bars so if you want a night off from the BBQ there is much there to offer. We had a really good time and have no hesitation recommending this as a family holiday location.
