Maubuisson is an unspoilt, unpretentious and relatively undiscovered French holiday location. Perfect for family beach holidays but also great for cycling and outdoor pursuits as well as the Bordeaux wine region and the historic city itself. The house is a very short walk from the fabulous child friendly beach at Maubuisson and its range of restaurants and shops.
The house has just been extended and completely refurbished throughout and now offers top quality home from home facilities with a new kitchen and wet shower room/toilet as well as a new family bathroom. The main bedroom has a king size double bed, there is a "dormitory" with 4 single beds perfect for kids, there is a second double room with king sized bed and a small room which ideally is a single, but can be a double if you pull out the Storabed from underneath (the beds then are both at the same height and together form a 6' double)
There is an extensive new deck/terrace outside the property with a built-in barbecue with views over the lake, with plenty of sunbathing/room for playing. There is a small garden and trees which provide welcome shade to parts of the terrace and a pleasant ambience. There are tables and chairs and two sunloungers.

There is a large 9ft dining table and chairs, plus two HandySitt portable high chairs which fit onto the dining chairs and are suitable for age 7 months - 5 years. The fully fitted kitchen has been newly installed and offers home from home facilities - including a dishwasher, washing machine, large fridge/freezer, microwave, hob and oven. There is plenty of crockery, cutlery and glassware for all - plus visitors - and a range of picnic ware for the beach. There is a breakfast bar with seating between the kitchen and living room. The downstairs shower room is a wet room with a contemporary walk in shower - great after the beach - toilet and sink. Stairs to the first floor.Upstairs is a light central landing/hallway accessing all rooms including the family bathroom with bath, toilet and sink. The house is chalet style and has sloping ceilings in all but the main double bedroom. The main bedroom has a king size double bed, with a shuttered door to a small wooden balcony overlooking the lake. There is a "dormitory" with 4 single beds which is perfect for kids. A second double has a king sized bed. Then the smallest room has a "Storabed" - a full size single which stores under another - and can be used as either a single or a double (there is not enough for the 2 singles to be separated). All rooms have chests of drawers, bedside cabinets, reading lights etc. There are pillows and 4.5tog duvets for each bed, mainly feather and down but with a couple of non-allergy microfibre. All linen is good quality 100% cotton. The beds will be made up for your arrival.Apart from the main bedroom the windows are small/chalet style and have blackout curtains, so kids generally sleep really well, particularly after an active "Swallows and Amazons" day playing outdoors. There are beach towels, buckets/spades and other seaside necessities.
|Further details outdoors|
The house is in its own gardens. A large deck extends around 3 sides of the house providing a mix of shade from the garden trees and full sun. The deck is elevated over the sloping gardens and enclosed by modern safety railings, with views over the lake. There is a built-in barbecue at the front of the house and two oak tables with chairs which can be used together or positioned separately to follow the shade or the sun. There are two all weather sunloungers. There is a wall airer providing drying space for washing. There is a steep driveway up to the house. The elevated position means that the house benefits from privacy and views over the lake, however it does mean that it is not suitable for those with impaired mobility. There is no need for a swimming pool - you are so close to the beach!
Linen and bath towels are provided, the beds will be made up for your arrival and then laundered by the cleaner on your departure. There is a selection of beach towels at the house and we kindly request you wash these before you leave if you use them.If you would like additional cleaning mid-holiday we can usually arrange for this for an extra charge.
The Aquitaine region
Maubuisson is a beautiful and unpretentious French family holiday resort about 45 minutes drive west of Bordeaux, in the South West of France. The town is on the southern end of Lac Hourtin and has its own safe sandy beach. It is approximately 10 minutes drive from the vast sandy surfing beaches of France's South West coast - 15 minutes from Lacanau which is a surfing capital - and 30 minutes drive from the Bordeaux vineyards (the Haut Medoc is closest). The whole area stretching alongside this coast is forested and has a network of cycle routes and nature trails, making this a fantastic location for family holidays. The Arcachon basin and Pyla Dune are just over an hour's drive to the south.
Maubuisson is situated on the southern coast of France's largest inland freshwater lake, Lac Hourtin, which is approx 18km by 4km. There is sailing, waterskiing and kite surfing on the lake. The house is less than 100m ( a very short walk) from the lake and it has a long stretch of well maintained, fine, soft sandy beach with safe paddling and swimming for all. There is a range of shops and restaurants in the village - 5/10 minutes easy walk - as well as the tourist office, cashpoint, and cinema. There are golf courses, horse riding, cycling and a range of outdoor pursuits and activities within easy reach. The Bordeaux wine region is approximately 30 minutes drive north/east - the closest area being the Haut Medoc/Pauillac. Many vineyards, including the famous Chateau Rothschild, are open for visitors and tastings. Carcans Plage and the Atlantic coast - famed for surfing and sand dunes - are 10 minutes drive away, Lacanau only slightly further.

"Best Holiday House We Have Stayed In In France"
The house surprised us, being both moder and clean. It is well equipped with no penny pinching. The downstarirs wetroom/shower was a big hit with everyone. Some people will not like the steep drive but we found a way to turn round easily enough. To be fair we have experienced much worse access to French holiday homes. There is no WiFi but we learned to do without and there is free WiFi at the bar on the lake and the Tourest Information Office just 10 mins away. We travelled with two toddlers and 7 adults. We all fitted in OK at night and the dining table and lounge easily accommodarted all of us for meals and evening chats - and of course, SKY TV will all the channels we have at home. Usuyally you are lucky to get CNN and perhaps BBCWorld. And CeBeeBees was a god send on the one wet day when dad had a bad cold. Just 2 minutes walk to the beach and 10 minutes to the shops via the scenic route along the lake. All in all a brilliant house. .

This rental property is of a very high standard. The owners have equipped it so that it feels like home, they really have thought of everything. The bathrooms are really fabulous and the beds really comfortable, with cotton bed linen. the bunk room is ideal for 4 children The beach is less than 100m away and is superb for toddlers, no tide, shallow and pristine. It is also great for tweenies-sailing, windsurfing, pedalo's, wake boarding- which is 10 minutes by car(30 euro per 15 mins). It is a 10 minute walk for croissants bread and groceries and a 15 minute drive to the Atlantic beaches. There is no internet but it is available in local cafes and at the tourist office which is a 15 minute walk away. The owners are a pleasure to deal with. There were 8 in our party and the house never felt overcrowded. The kitchen is very well equipped and the open plan layout is lovely. We had a terrific relaxing week in this lovely house and would highly recommend.

"Great family holiday - lovely house - super location"
A thoroughly enjoyable holiday. The house is fantastic - clean, comfortable and well equipped; with a fabulous location near the beach. There's a lovely scenic stroll alongside the beach to the modern centre of the village; which is well stocked with cafes, family restaurants and shops for most everyday things. Kids loved the beach and were quite happy whiling away their days building sand castles and so on. The service from the owners was first class - from helpful recommendations to simply making us feel very welcome. All in all, a great holiday.

"Amazing accomodation, gorgeous location."
The house was superb, very clean & everything was in an immaculate order. It was like a home from home, with the full range of children's toys, bikes, books & beach toys. We couldn't of asked for any more. The location is absolutely beautiful with the lake a short away. A lovely stroll down to the local baker's for our bread & croissants every morning & a visit to the play park in the afternoon. Idyllic!!

This holiday ticked all the boxes. It had everything you could possibly need for a fabulous holiday. It had a well equipped kitchen and beautiful bedrooms. The property was spacious and of an extremely high standard.. There was not one thing I would have changed. The position of the house was almost on the fabulous beach- no need to take the small children anywhere in the car - which was a huge plus for my family.

"What a wonderful week we had"
Superbly appointed accommodation close to all amenities and a short walk from the beach and local town. We found the townsfolk very friendly and approachable and they certainly enhanced our stay, The house has all mod cons you would need to enhance your stay and in top class condition. As an extended family holiday location it cannot be faulted and we had three generations of the family enjoying the holiday. Mosquitos were a minor problem in the evenings but didn't spoil the holiday. We had a very minor issue at the beginning of the holiday which was promptly resoved following a phone call with the owners who couldn't have been more helpful. I cannot recommend this venue highly enough.

"Smart, homely, great location."
The house is really nicely furnished and well finished. It clearly doesn't belong to French people! The house is extremely comfortable and happily accommodated 8 of us, plus a baby. The kitchen is fairly well equipped and big enough for several people to be cooking at once. A couple of the bedrooms are in the eaves of the house, so mind your head. The location is great. Nicely perched between the lake and little town — walking distance away — and the beach. The combination of the lake and surrounding forest do make a great habitat for the mozzies, though, so pack your insect repellant. Further afield, wine country around Bordeaux is beautiful and tasty! All in all, we loved our stay and would happily go back!

"Living in this house fees like at home."
Beautiful, modern property located on hill in the forest of Maubuisson. Barbecue area with view on lake. Back terrace ideal for children. Friendly owners with good taste. Quite region suited for walking, cycling, surfing, swimming and sailing. Take mosquito repellant.

"Luxurious Home Comforts by the beach"
I cannot speak highly enough about this property having stayed there for a week with my 5 year old twins. The location of this property is so close to the beach that if the children need the toilet you literally take them back! The Maubuisson beach is beside a really safe lake where children can walk 25m before getting waist deep. Our morning ritual was a stroll down to the playground and boulangerie for croissants and pain au chocolat to 'kick off the day'. The house itself is spacious, airy and bright and excellently equipped - quite literally home from home! The large outdoor decking and BBQ area are really impressive with superb lake views . I cannot fault this property and its proximity to the beach and other lovely surrounding towns. We will definitely return!

"A fantastic place to relax with a young family or teenagers."
We were very impressed by the quality of the accommodation and enjoyed the views over to the lake from the front decking. Maubuisson was a great place to stay with plenty to do nearby, from the beach at the lake to plentiful cycle tracks, walks and the nearby Atlantic coast for surfing. There was also a good variety of shops and restaurants within walking distance of the holiday home. We had planned to visit Bordeaux and more of the surrounding area but that will have to wait for another time, as illness struck our teenage son meaning that we were unable to make the most of all the things on offer. However, on the plus side, we were thankful that we had chosen such a nice rental property as we got to spend a lot of time reading at the house! Also it was easy to get to see the doctor in the village, if you were prepared to wait. To sum up I would thoroughly recommend both the property and the area for an enjoyable holiday and would return again.
