Location description from owner

The Scotland region

The Scottish Highlands are justifiably renowned world wide for their stunning landscapes, clan heritage, wildlife, culture and quality produce. You can find all of these in and around our local area.

Rural Ross-shire is made up of dramatic hills, ancient and modern woodlands, small farms, tumbling waterfalls and bubbling burns. Wildlife surrounds you in happy abundance with red kites, ospreys, heron, kestrels and buzzards overhead, shy deer watching from the undergrowth and rabbits and hares chasing across the grass.

The British mainland is at its narrowest here, with a drive of only an hour and a half taking you from the gentle slopes of the east to the rugged landscapes of the west coast.

The weather is unpredictable, from gloriously sunny summer days up to 40 deg C, to moody grey and occasional surprise showers, so come prepared for anything!

Marybank

Our nearest village is Marybank, some 2 miles west of Druimorrin. This is a small, rural community, home to the local primary school, the Balloan House pub and B&B and the Fairburn Memorial Hall which houses a sub-post office two mornings a week.

Most of the facilities for visitors are in Muir of Ord, 2.5 miles to the east of Druimorrin, Beauly, just beyond the Muir, 4 miles away or in the county town of Dingwall, 7 miles away.

This is an historic area with atmospheric buildings around almost every corner and traditions galore. With the peaceful surroundings, you might be forgiven for thinking the area is remote, but supermarket shopping in Dingwall includes Lidl and 24-hour Tesco and even closer, Muir of Ord has the Scottish Co-Op, general grocer and filling station. The local butcher, John Munro, stocks high-quality product sourced from the surrounding farms and Bell's fish van will stop on request around 3pm on a Thursday, bringing fresh fish right to the caravan door.

If you fancy a night off, there is a good choice of eateries within 15 minutes' drive, including the Coul House Hotel in Contin and Tulloch Castle in Dingwall for that special night out, bar meals in Muir of Ord's Ord Arms or Beauly's Lovat Arms, or even a tradition Scottish High Tea at the Priory in Beauly, and there are plenty of takeaways in Muir of Ord, Beauly and Dingwall. Why not ask for your meal to be delivered?
