***** Prices held for 2016! *****

Sparth Cottage is an attractive barn conversion, situated in a quiet, picturesque setting near a canal and wooded lake in the Pennine Colne Valley, just outside the Peak District National Park.

The pretty village of Marsden is only 5 minutes walk down the towpath, with many attractions and events nearby.

Through the front door you enter the beamed living room, with wooden flooring and rugs. There's a cosy sitting area to one side (with TV/DVD and woodburner), and to the other side a fold-out dining table and chairs. The sideboard contains a multitude of games for all ages, and the bookcase has a wide selection of books and DVDs.

The kitchen has a slate floor, and is fully equipped with washer/dryer, fridge/freezer, cooker and microwave. There is also an espresso maker, and a range of utensils and gadgets for more serious cooking, plus a high chair and an iron/ironing board.

Upstairs, the master bedroom has a double bed

“Comfortable, well equipped, recommended”

Reviewed 24 Mar 2015

A comfortable, well equipped property in an interesting location just outside Marsden. Good views across a lake and the Huddersfield Narrow canal. Easy to get to Marsden on foot along the tow path, but not recommended at night as unlit. Bed very comfortable, king size with foam mattress - much better than most! Upstairs warm and comfortable, downstairs comfortable although a little chilly in the morning and the helpfully provided fan heater is needed. The kitchen is narrow, but well equipped with all the extra's owners normally forget - such as a T cosy, steak knives, oven gloves etc. The Living room is small but cozy, although having to put up and take down the dining table(due to space issues) if eating a proper evening meal was a bit of a pain. That said many people tend to eat out in the day and snack in the evening so it's not likely to be an issue for most. The cottage is centrally sited to visit the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway, National Trust properties at Quarry Bank , Lyme Park and Nostell Abbey, the moors, Standedge tunnel and the various Bradford museums all of which are very worthwhile visiting. A couple of points to be aware of - although nothing to do with the cottage itself:The turn into the lane for the cottage is very tight, particularly if driving a larger car and some of the lane's around the moors, particularly if turning right out of the lane are VERY narrow and steep with hairpin bends, so be careful about unquestioningly following your Sat Nav as we found out with a couple of "interesting" journeys!
