The Sicily region
Visiting Sicily in summer is interesting not only for its numerous beautiful beaches but also for many good places for sightseeing. Historical evidence of the past and ancient culture are given in the presence of Greek temples and theatres in Taormina, Siracusa, Agrigento, and Selinunte, still well preserved. Evidence of Norman, Spaniard, Roman rule can be seen in the beautiful villas as, for example Villa del Casale in Piazza Armerina with its wonderful mosaics.
Together with the historical buildings, many Sicilian cities deserve a visit. For example, Palermo with its numerous Norman sites. Catania and the volcano Etna, Syracuse where in its greek anphitheatre Grecian comedies and tragedies are still performed. For those who like Baroque style, Important evidences are in the towns of Noto, Pachino, Avola and Grammichele.
Also interesting are the mountains and hill countryside. It's important also the visit to the isles around Sicily, many of them of volcanic origin and having a bath in the crystal and clear water.
To make your staying completely delightful you will taste the delicious Sicilian typical dishes and cakes (who hasn't ever heard about “cannoli or cassata siciliana).
All of this in a wonderful climate through nearly the whole year.
Many are the places and the things to visit in Marsala and the places around it.
Most of the interesting places to visit are nearby the house.
1)The Cathedral of Norman foundation in1628 - 2)The tapestry museum (museo degli arazzi), a collection of eight tapestries of the XVI century. 3) The archeological museo at Baglio Anselmi where besides many archeological find it is lodged the wreck of a Carthaginian ship from the 3rd century B.C. 4) The relics of three Roman villas with mosaics. 5) Florio winery, a great and famous wine producer that has huge warehouses full of big barrels of wines. 6) The phoenician isle of Mozia in the lagoon of Stagnone with many ruins which witnesses the ancient splendour. In the lagoon you can admire the salt mines and the marvellous changing colour of the sunset and the windmills, some of them still working.
Outside Marsala a visit to do is that of the norman city of Erice on its homonimous mountain.
