Off the beaten track accommodation with terraced sculpture gardens and spectacular ocean views. We have a comfortable, modern studio in the Treehouse with private sun deck in the terraced sculpture gardens and sea views as well as an"eco" cabin perched on the cliff called the Hummingbird Hangout which you can see under a separate listing.

The Treehouse Studio looks out over terraced gardens with tropical plants and many different sculptures from modern to driftwood and bamboo. From the sundeck with its loungers and umbrella under the shade of the flame tree you can watch birds and lizards in the terraced gardens or boats making their way up and down the west coast of Saint Lucia. The Treehouse is bordered by wild coastal forest where we have created a conservation area for native plants, birds and animals. A network of fishpools - 15 in all - throughout the gardens provides an environmental solution to mosquito breeding since the fish eat any larvae laid in the pools and therefore drastically reduces the mosquito population. This is in direct contrast to the local practice of pesticide fogging where a drenching toxic mist directly impacts bird, lizard and frog populations. Why would you want to spend you holiday in a toxic fog? The top gardens include a Japanese garden, more sculptures and large fishpools with lilies and lotus plants.

We are committed environmentalists and in addition to promoting minimalist living in this natural paradise we also provide advice to local hotels and businesses wishing to reduce their environmental footprints by reducing energy or water use or by recycling their waste. As you will see if you come to stay with us, the natural world is our passion!

The studio is very comfortable with table and chairs on a balcony overlooking the sea and sculpture gardens and its own private elevated wooden walkway to a private sundeck with loungers, umbrella, table and chairs. An outdoor bamboo shower is great for cooling down on hot days.

We love paying attention to detail and many of the fittings in the Treehouse have been made using driftwood, antique linen and the skills of local craftsmen. The hand made wooden kitchen is made using local techniques such as shutter doors and solid wood worktops. The walls are decorated by Audubon bird prints, decorative masks by a well known local artist and African embroidery in recognition of Saint Lucia's african heritage.

There is a good library of books you can borrow as well as books and information on Saint Lucia. We are also writing a series of kindle guides to the island, with a particular focus on walkers and ramblers so please ask for more information.

If you enjoy fish then we can call the fishermen in the bay below the house and they will let us know when they have "your" fish in their nets. We also make great home made ice cream from local fruits and leave this in a freezer for you to help yourself - just settle up at the end before leaving! Because many of our guests are on foot we also stock the local Piton beer and bottled water to save them carrying it up the road...

Car parking is available and there is a separate access through a small garden gate. We also have a spare car which is a small 4x4 jeep which we keep available for guests to hire on request...it's much nicer than dealing with rental agencies and more flexible! Simply pay for each day you use it...

Fifteen minute walk from the Treehouse is a secluded cove where you can snorkel among the coral reefs. Or you can stroll down the hill to Marigot Bay, the most beautiful bay in the Caribbean with high quality restaurants and bars as well as a beautiful marina. There is also a dive school and power and sailing boats available for charter.

Other attractions on the island are within easy reach of Marigot Bay and we will be happy to advise and help you have the holiday of a lifetime in this tropical paradise!

We also rent out our 41' classic yacht as a houseboat. Airborne sleeps 2 people and is permanently moored to the dock next to the luxury hotel in Marigot Bay. Guests of Airborne can use the hotel's facilities including the lower swimming pool, gym (including classes) and spa steam room. Ask us for details.

Location description from owner

The St. Lucia region

This property is right next to Marigot Bay, the most beautiful bay in the Caribbean. To one side of the property stretches Roseau beach with its river and banana plantations - and rum distillery - and to the other side there is a secluded cove which you can reach on foot (10 mins). Here you can swim and snorkel the nearby coral reef. In Marigot Bay there is a local dive school or yacht charters or just walk on the elegant boardwalk and admire the mega yachts. There are local boutiques selling crafts and clothing, a bank and ATM and a mini market with a wide range of products. Marigot Bay has several high quality restaurants and bars so you can choose a different one each night if you have decided to eat out.

Marigot Bay

Saint Lucia is a beautiful tropical paradise with quaint and sleepy seaside towns and the beautiful and unique Piton mountains which you can climb or just sit with a cocktail and admire. Watersports abound and you can take your pick of windsurfing, canoeing, hire a local fishermans boat and go snorkeling or canoe up a river for an inland view. Local attractions include the walk-in volcano and mud baths, botanical gardens, rainforest ziplines or walks, horse riding or segway.

“A fabulous retreat from the hurly burly of life”

Reviewed 1 Mar 2016

The Treehouse is a true find for those who are not seeking the luxury or facilities of a smart hotel. It is away from the resort, high on a jungle coated cliff, set apart from everyone else. The apartment is quiet and surrounded by nature - wild garden, birds, lizards, bats, and moths. The view is of the Caribbean, framed by trees, and it is west facing, so you get the fabulous sunsets every evening. If you are not that mobile, you would be advised to hire a car, although driving in St Lucia is not for the faint hearted. It is a good walk to the village, mostly downhill, but uphill coming back in the heat with your shopping, unless you can cadge a lift! Facilities in the apartment are basic but perfectly adequate. You will live on the balcony and deck, and not want to go anywhere much. You can walk to a beach in ten minutes, where you can swim and snorkel. Mine hosts are lovely people, really into nature and conservation. Their three black Labradors are gorgeous, and very friendly. Sarah will very kindly book trips, and can get discounts. She will also arrange your collection from the airport. We did not want to come home.

“Amazing holiday”

“A lovely apartment by the sea”

Reviewed 24 Jan 2014

We have just stayed at this lovely apartment right by the Caribbean Sea for 10 days. The apartment is well equipped and has a comfortable bed with a separate bathroom and a lovely deck for sunbathing and eating reached by a flight of steps. The main house is built on the side of a cliff overlooking the sea and the friendly owners live above, always ready to help and provide useful information. It was lovely to watch the humming birds feeding on the flowers in the pretty surrounding garden and watch the sun go down over the sea with a drink in the evening. Very near to Marigot Bay for shopping and restaurants and a further short drive to Castries and the North. A different sort of holiday to just staying a hotel!

“Exclusive Caribbean hideaway”

Reviewed 10 Jan 2014

I think I have found my very own exclusive rainforest hideaway. Recently built, this one bed apartment adjoining the owner's house is located on a hillside close to the waters edge with stunning views over the Caribbean Sea. The accommodation comprised of a large ensuite, kitchen and a comfortable 4 poster, mossie proof bed. With triple doors opening out to a balcony where you can sample the local tipple watching the most glourious sunsets. I really liked the private elevated walkway through the trees to a sundeck overlooking the sea. If you want seclusion this is the place, located just south of Castries near the end of a partly made road, so a 4x4 is essential. The friendly owners live in the house above, are multilingual and could not be more helpful. There is no pool but the warm sea, beaches and Marigot Bay are only a few minutes away. 'Treehouse' is a real find and would make the perfect romantic hideaway, especially at these prices, very little compares.
